Ted Kopple's Big Night Out
It's the big Yale/Harvard football game. Richard, Emily, Rory and Lorelai go. They run
into Pennelyn Lott, Richard's ex-girlfriend when he attended Yale. Emily finds out that he's been
having lunch with her once a year ever since he and Emily have been married. She's not happy about
it. After Emily blames Lorelai for talking to Pennelyn and letting her find out,
Lorelai calls Jason, bails on the game, and goes to dinner with him. Lorelai swiped
Richard's apparently never-emptied fun flask.
Richard introduced Rory and Paris to Asher Fleming, a Yale professor. After the game, Rory
sees Paris and Asher kissing. Like they would really do that outside during the day of a big
football game?
......................
The Nanny and the Professor
Lane is now working at Luke's. Tobin is back and is Davey's nanny. Michel is jealous. He
baby sits for Sookie and ends up calling Lorelia because the baby rolled under the bed. So where
was Tobin? Why wasn't he baby sitting?
Emily and Richard are back from Switzerland and are getting along, so I guess the Pennelyn
Lott situation has been resolved, or swept under the carpet.
Lorelai goes back to Jason's apartment after a movie. After having sex, Jason tells her
he can't sleep with any kind of distraction, including Lorelai, and talks her into sleeping in the
very fancy guest room. Sorry, but if I had naked Lorelai in MY bed - so what if I couldn't sleep?
Why would I WANT to?
Lorelai insists they not tell E&R that she and Jason are dating.
..........................
In the Clamor and the Clangor
Another funeral - Stan Green's. He provided funds to have the church bells repaired. They
ring every half hour.
Luke tells Lorelai he's moved into a townhouse with Nicole in Litchfield. Despite the fact
that she's hiding her affair with Jason, Lorelia is upset that he didn't tell her. They argue and
she stomps out, again.
Lane's band has a chance to play in New York at CBGB's. She sneaks out to go, but there is
no one in the place at 1 a.m. and their gig is cancelled. Lane goes to Yale to spend the night with
Rory. Lane must have plenty of money. Rory calls Lorelai who calls Mrs. Kim. The next day Lane
tells Mrs. Kim she wants to play in her band and will observe curfew except when they have a gig.
Mrs. Kim tells her children don't make the rules and she can move out, so Lane goes back to Yale.
Lorelai tries to make up with Luke by asking him to help her break the annoying bells. In
his apartment she sees all his stuff is still there. While breaking the bells, she tells him she
doesn't want him to move to Litchfeild. Just before she can tell him exactly why, Rev Skinner comes
in, sees them, then lets them continue breaking the bells, but their "moment" is over.
I have lost count of how many times this has happened - Lorelai and Luke are just about to
really connect and then they are interrupted (as when Dean just HAD to talk to Lorelai about Rory
and Jess while Lor and Luke were sharing lunch in "A-Tisket, A-Tasket.")
......................
A Family Affair
Liz, Luke's sister, shows up. She calls Jess and he shows up to get his car. It breaks
down and he has to spend the night to get it fixed the next day. Lorelia is clipping coupons and
buying groceries rather than eating take out food. Rory notices some of the premium cable channels
are gone, and she thinks Lorelai is using lower wattage light bulbs. Looks like
Lorelia is starting to feel the money crunch after so many years of squandering it.
Rather than let Jess sleep in his car, Luke goes to spend the night with Nicole, and Jess
gets the "hidden" key above the diner door to go inside to spend the night.

RORY: Well, I'd have to tell Paris that I'm going.
LOGAN: Absolutely. Tell Paris you're going.
RORY: Whoa! Oops!
LOGAN: What?
RORY: They made up. Either that or
Krav Maga is way kinkier than I thought it was.

It was nighttime. And they thought they were alone.

There's also a plotline where Luke hires "help" and is stubborn
about not recognizing the not-helpful nature of the "help". It
looked like Luke was subconsciously acting out feelings of guilt
over Jess--that some part of him feels he needed to "try harder".

Mostly swept under the carpet. One more piece of the slowly
developing estrangement between Emily and Richard.

As we all know, Jason has his quirks...

Although there's a good chance Lorelai wouldn't have told Luke
anything serious this time. Luke is, after all, still technically
married to Nicole.

Even though (as Lorelai points out) he really hasn't moved in with
Nicole.

Also Lorelai almost tells Emily about Jason. Probably should have
gone ahead and told her even after Emily's joke, there's never
going to be a perfect time.

And Paris is already talking about possibly going away with Asher
over the summer.

Wel, he did tell Loreial he failed Jess. And Lorelai gave examples of how Jess refused
Luke's help.

When it comes to Lorelai, insanity seems to be the watchword. Quirky doesn't seem to fit,
in this particualr situation.

But it would have been interesting to hear just how she would explain WHY she didn't want
him to move.
