E7 - Kiss and Tell
We get out first look at Taylor as he tries to get Luke to put up
decorations in the diner for the Autumn Festival.
Noticed lots of hardware stuff still in bins on one wall - garden hoses,
etc.
Rory goes into Doose's market and Dean kisses her. She runs right over to
the Antique shop tell Lane.
Lorelai is having trouble with her refrigerator and a LOT of food is
on the floor she took out of it (AND a big bowl a apples on the table).
Mrs. Kim tells Lor about Rory being kissed; Lor is bummed Rory didn't
tell her.
While Dean is watching the movie he was invited to see at Lorelai's, Rory
is in the downstairs bathroom that mysteriously becomes a closet in later
eps.
Dean mentions that he has sisters, but we only see Clair/Clare.

E8 - Love and War and Snow
First town meeting, about the annual reenactment of Stars Hollow
militia standing guard all night to thwart Redcoats that never came. Luke is
fuming.
The mayor is running the meeting. We never see him again. Taylor is
just complaining.
Rory is stuck at Emily and Richard's due to a snow storm. Max Medina is
broken down in SH; he and Lor hook up and have their first date. They share
their first kiss.
Luke takes hot coffee to the re-enactors and sees Lor and Max
together, and sees them kiss. He is NOT a happy camper!
L&M end up at Lorelai's . The heavy snowfall that had covered them as
they walked through the mysteriously disappeared once they got onto the
porch.
Kirk (Sean Gunn) is listed in the end credits, while Taylor (Michael
Winters) is in with the 'guest starring' credits at the beginning.

Actually we see him once more in Episode 16 of this season (Star-
Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers). He's presiding over the
Firelight festival.

Don't remember that, but it's been a few years since I watched all the
episodes.

One other thing I forgot - odd that Lane spent the night at Lorelai's
considering how protective Mrs. Kim is. Even if Lane called her, I can's see
Mrs. K letting her stay at Lor's without Rory being there since Mrs. K isn't
a big fan of Lorelai and her lifestyle.

That raises the question why have a mayor with a town meeting form
of government? Towns with a town meting form of government
have a town manager. It's only when they abolish town meeting and
go with a mayor that they have a mayor.

And here I thought Taylor was the town manager.

Taylor Doose is played by Michael Winters. Taylor is the Town
Selectman for the town of Stars Hollow, and holds a number of other
positions in town government and public organizations. He is largely
responsible for organizing Stars Hollow's many events and festivals. He is
also the owner of Doose's Market, where he employed Dean Forester for the
first five seasons, and Taylor's Old Fashioned Soda Shoppe. He is staunchly
conservative and provincial in his thought and temperament.
As Stars Hollow's most powerful citizen, Taylor often uses his
positions in a rather self-serving manner. He is a stickler for making sure
town rules and statutes are followed to the letter. He also has his own
opinions about how people should live. Often this brings him in conflict
with other members of the community, most often Luke Danes and Lorelai
Gilmore. He also is in charge of the frequent town meetings (held at Miss
Patty's studio), which he often uses as a forum to air his personal
grievances.
During the fifth season, Taylor was briefly voted out of the
Town Selectman office after Jackson Belleville ran against him for the
office. However, Jackson realized he did not want the job, and resigned.
He remains single throughout the series and never seems to even date
(the implication seeming to be his aggressively fussy and self-serving
behavior alienates anyone around him of either sex).

In a typical New England town the town is ruled by
a town meeting held once a year. In the intervening
months the town is governed by a town manager and
a board of selectmen. Presumably Stars Hollow would
have five members of the board of selectmen.

(The town I live in recently converted from a town
meeting form of goverment to a strong mayor. The town
had much anger towards the board of selectmen, or the
board of negelctment as the towns people called them.
Back about 14 years ago the town meeting revolted and
removed the manager and the board of selectmen.)

The board of selectmen = the city council.

Whether the town has a town meeting/town manager
form of government or a strong mayor form of government
it is still just as corrupt and badly run.
