I was playing with maps.google.com last night and they've added
satellite pictures!

First, search for "Burbank, CA"
Once it's zoomed in you can search "Warner Brothers Backlot" and it
will mark a variety of things. Click on whichever lettered bubble
corresponds with "Warner Brothers Studio" on the list (For me, it's
"C")
Click "Satellite" in the top right corner to switch to satellite view
and you can zoom in using the zoom feature. The map can be moved
around by clicking and dragging so that you can center it.

Once you're all the way zoomed in, it's easy to find the studio because
of all the large soundstages, and then to the right of the soundstages
you can see the outdoor streets ... if you look closely, you can pick
out the gazebo. (Also, if you switch back to map view instead of
satellite view, certain backlot streets are named which helped me
figure out what was where. I had read somewhere that Stars Hollow is
"Midwest St.")

Yes, this is how bored I was. :)

Thanks for the heads up!

The "Link to this page" feature on the right gives

as a direct link.

Toggle up one more level of magnification from this link and you've
got an even closer magnification. I'm gonna write on this later, as
soon as I figure out where everything is to my satisfaction. I might
be confusing Lorelai's House with the West Wing exterior (they share a
parking lot).

LORELAI: In the movie, only boy hobbits travel to Mount
Doom, but that's only because the girls went to do something
even more dangerous.
GIRL: What?
LORELAI: Have you ever heard of a Brazilian Bikini Wax?

A word of warning though on google maps. It is in beta testing
and does have some bugs in the system. If you do use it
do yourself a favor and double check with other sources before relying
on it.

This is an interesting feature in google, just be aware that
it has some bugs.

Just to show you how bored *I* was last night, take a load of this
link:

http://www.terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=4&S=8&Z=11&X=7536&Y=75588&W=3&qs=4301+West+Olive+St.%7cBurbank%7cCA%7c&Addr=4301+W+Olive+Ave%2c+Burbank%2c+CA+91505&ALon=-118.3417837&ALat=34.1474727

From the date stamp, this was taken about two weeks after I visted.
And they were even filming at the time!

Yep, it's Terraserver, and it's a couple of levels of magnification
better than Googlemaps (but still far enough above that it's just
geeky and, like, so not stalkery). You can even see ER's Ambulance
Bay just to the North and east of Stars Hollow (look for what looks
like a fragment of train track -- that's the El above the Ambulance
Bay.

quite cool. terra server doesn't work as well where I live, it doesn't
magnify nearly as much as google, so i didn't think to try other
places! :)
