I didn't like the young lorelai. Her voice was blech. It was smokey and
sounded more mature than the "old" lorelai. I expected her to act and sound
less mature, but instead her voice seemed to me like she was trying to sound
sexy, especially when talking to young Chris. I was disappointed with the
flashback scenes mostly because I did NOT like the actress who played young
lorelai.

Wow, I thought she sounded too much like a baby! Her voice and
manner annoyed me for the exact opposite reasons <g> I thought of
Lorelai being stronger with a "I'm ready to face this" attitude at
that age, and that actress made her seem like she was 10 years old.

I didn't care for her either. With all the talented actresses around, more
thought should have gone into casting. I'm sure they could have gotten a
teenager who could have nailed Lorelai's personality better.

I disagree at least in part. I thought there were some places where
she did a good job of nailing Lorelai. There were some where she
didnt. Lorelai can be kinda down sometimes. The girl played it
deadpan. You could see her thoughts at the end when Chris says they
need to get married. You just see her thinking about her options.
The actress did an ok job in a very hard role to make work. No one is
going to be satisfied.

As for Chris, his role was so minor, it's hard to pan him too bad. He
was ok.

You're assuming that Lorelai should be the same person at 16 that she is
at 32. Maybe that "breeziness" came with age.

Besides the fact that she hardly resembled Loren Graham at all. They could
have at least gotten the eye color right. It looked to me like the actress
playing the young Lorelei had brown eyes. They were nowhere near the
sparkling blue eyes that Loren Graham has.

but at the same time, it would be sort of hard to find someone EXACTLY like
Lauren Graham...... the mannerisms were probably as close as they could
get....

I thought that Philip Glen Van Dyke could not have been any further from
Christopher. Unless Chris had some serious plastic surgery between 16 and
32 - no way!!!

LOL. The part that got me about Chris was that I didn't pick up any hint of
the reckless boy that he's always been described as by Lorelai. Yes he was
obedient and all that in his parents' eyes but...well he just seemed a wuss
to me.

ya, what happened to the porchse/jag/whatever that chris had crashed - no
mention of it when their parents were saying how reckless Lorelai was

LOL!!! the young Chris does look like a dork. If Lorelai and Chrix didn't grew
up together and were like best friends, I find it hard to believe that the
young Lorelai would be in love with young Chris.

Speaking of breezy, she kinda rushed her lines in some places.

Hey, did anyone notice that in this weeks episode that they were kissing on the
couch, but in the episode "Christopher Returns", Chris mentioned that Rory was
conceived on the balcony??

EXACTLY! I thought the young actress did a great job of being the
"today" Lorelai who hadn't experienced the let-downs, the shifting of gears
between "pampered and rich" to "defensive and determined." I don't think
there are very many young actresses who could have pulled off the basic
character at sixteen, with the expressions, the flippant, but loving,
disrespect of her parents, but without the burden of experiences that the
adult Lorelai is still undergoing. Don't forget, the actress is being
"directed."

I didn't like the flashback scenes for that reason either. Besides the
voice, the eyes, the face and the larger bust she's a dead ringer for
Lorelai! ;-) Christopher seemed very much a dork rather than a handsome,
reckless, dangerous, sexy rich kid with a promising future.

The casting was not even close to believable - they could have done MUCH
better! (It would have even been an improvement if they'd use the original
actors with different haircuts and clothes as they did with the parents.)

Right... I didn't think she looked nearly enough like Graham. I think they
would have been better off putting makeup and a bit of special effects on
Rory's facial features to make her look more like Graham, and used Alexis to
play young Lor.

You might be right, I caught part of the ep where Emily talked Rory
into 'coming out', and the dress Lorelai was wearing made her look like a
boy -- her front was almost as flat as her back.
So she was certainly right about Rory's bra size being bigger than
hers.

I'm 14 years late on the conversation, but I agree! I am rewatching Gilmore Girls on Netflix before watching the new reunion episodes. I just watched the episode with Chelsea Brummet cast as Lorelai Gilmore and all the frustration of this casting decision that I felt so many years ago came flooding back. It's like they didn't put any thought into it. The head shape, the hair, the height, and personality are all wrong! And don't even get me started on the brown eyes. Watching this again, years later, on a 60 inch TV, it looks like they tried to use blue contacts and they weren't vibrant enough. And the acting was more that of a seductive, saucy teenager than a quick, witty Lorelai. It was all wrong. Ugggh!

Chelsea Brummet was cast as Young Lorelai in the season 3, ep 13,
'Dear Emily and Richard.'

Chelsea not looking like Lorelai is a problem with almost all shows
flashing back to a character's younger self. I think it may have more to do
with a actor who can play the part convincingly than looking like who they
are supposed to be.

But personally, I think Chelsea did a good job portraying the
younger Lor.

But the thing that bothers me more than that are siblings who look
absolutely nothing like their brothers or sisters ... or their parents.
