Well, I guess someone should say something about GH while there are
still enough people to carry a conversation.

Last ep watched: Thursday 12/14. In that ep, Alexis and Sam treated
Kristina as if she were a demented child. As if they'd known exactly
what *they* were getting into the first time *they* were pregnant. As if
their first pregnancies were not huge surprises and they had very
maturely and responsibly considered the pros and cons of pregnancy
before intentionally allowing themselves to be knocked up.

So, Kristina--a grownup--was lectured on becoming "responsibly pregnant"
by her mother, whose first pregnancy was the result of a one night stand
as a teenager, and her sister, whose first pregnancy occurred when she
was sleeping with two men, and for a time she couldn't say which was the
father. To boot, mother and sister *each* had three children from
different fathers--obviously a couple of Stable Mabels. Then there was
TJ, who at least knew he had no business lecturing Kristina, but
nevertheless worried that she is acting impulsively and has no idea what
pregnancy involves. Unlike Doctor TJ, who believes he knows everything
about being pregnant because he studied it for 10 seconds of his five
minutes of medical school and now has license to go about waxing
pooh-etic on every medical condition known to humanity.

Yes, Kristina has taken some time to find her way and in the process has
ended up with bad press, but I've always had the sense that was partly
because everyone's expectations of her were so low. She made one or two
bad judgment calls when she was very young and ever since, her mother
and older sisters have made her out to be an impulsive, irresponsible
screw up. At this point the "screw up" tag is so ingrained that no
matter what she accomplishes in life she'll never shake it. To his
credit, Sonny is the only one who has ever given Kristina proper due as
her own person.

If Molly wants Kristina to be her surrogate, that's between Molly and
Kristina, and only tangentially involves Doctor TJ. He was even worse
than Alexis and Sam--pulling the doctor card to support his doubts that
Kristina was capable of acting responsibly as a pregnant person. "As a
doctor, I know blah blah blah...." He knows squat. He's not an OB, he's
hasn't been a doctor long enough to even have finished his residency,
and besides which, he wasn't in medical school long enough to have
learned how to read a thermometer. Rant over. For now.

Exactly! I was thinking the same thing. No one can fully understand how pregnancy will affect them until it happens. I'll certainly never have any idea.
And neither Alexis nor Sam had any real plan for their first one, did they? Kristina does.

Even better reasons not to be lecturing Kristina like a misbehaving child.

He has even more reason to be quiet on the subject than Alexis and Sam.

True, but this at least is not unrealistic. Families often seem to put labels on close relatives, especially siblings, that may be based on events from long ago. Kristina gets labeled the impulsive, irresponsible sister mainly based upon things she did years ago. Just like Molly is the smart, logical one and Sam is the tough, capable one. It can be nearly impossible to shake those labels in real families.

Again, completely true. TJ should keep his doubts to himself.

Esme and her parents would agree! :D
