I am rewatching this show «Billions” on HBO.
I had inconsistently and spottily seen a few episodes in the past, and did
not much like it.
But I am now slowly rewatching it from the beginning.
It is fascinating in terms of GH.
First, it is set in NY.
it is based loosely on the career of Preet Bharara, the NY prosecutor who
Trump fired in his first months in office. No one ever understood the
motivation. There was some reporting that Bharara was promised tenure, and
then Trump reneged.
Anyway, as far as security law, the show is clearly very well researched.
The first season has an episode where the parties negotiate a plea deal.
The plea eventually blows up. But interestingly, the prosecutor clearly
warns the defendant that the plea is fully subject to a judge’s approval.
Something that the lawyers in PC had no idea about.
Later in the season, the DOJ goes after a judge with a strange sentencing
pattern. The pattern appears racially motivated, with minorities seemingly
getting extreme sentences. The judge appears to hold a well hidden
financial interest in private prisons where the unfortunate defendants are
sent for long periods of time for petty theft.
This seems to echo parts of the Drew sentencing story, but more strongly
mirrors the Molly storyline when she exposed a similarly racially motivated
judge.
I miss that Molly.
I do not begrudge her wanting a child, but the surrogacy storyline is not
overly interesting. More specifically, I do not recall the strife and
tension ever was a thing between the sisters. It seemed illogical for Molly
to get so overwrought about a needy sibling, because she had always been
portrayed as overly rational and pragmatic.
Molly can still be a mom and do some kick ass legal work.
Ok back to Billions
