Why is it that Sonny goes to church to pray and seek guidance from
above, but doesn't seem to recognize the church as a sanctuary and a
holy place and thinks nothing of pulling out his big, shiny gun and
waving it around (as he did on at least one occasion in the past), or of
beating someone to a pulp and leaving them for dead in a pew? For
petessake.

Did Sonny think he'd killed Cyrus? Or did he realize Cyrus was still
breathing, but just didn't think he'd be arrested? Does Sonny expect to
argue in court that Cyrus provoked the attack during an acute emotional
crisis? Or does he expect Born Again Cyrus to forgive him and either not
press charges or to petition the court for leniency on his behalf? That
certainly would put Sonny in Cyrus's debt, which might have been Cyrus's
plan all along.

All good theories

Still asking myself why Cyrus demanded Nina admit her transgressions to
those she wronged

Then pestered Sonny to make reparations of some sort

All while engaging in a huge mortal sin of pretending to be a priest
confessor and interfering with the sacraments attached to that sacred act

When exactly will Cyrus make amends for this horrid breach of trust

He was stirring the pot. He took a risk with his life--Sonny might have
killed him or put him in a wheelchair instead of only beating him to a
pulp. He has shown himself willing to do that before in service to one
evil scheme or another. Now Cyrus is the one with the upper hand, and
Sonny is at his mercy.

Cyrus doesn't care about any of that. Besides which, that's probably the
least criminal thing he's done.

On the 30th of February.
