I'm confused about Esme. So she hasn't been faking all this time, but
has suddenly, for no apparent reason, had her memories come flooding
back? Does that mean she's returned to being a psycho? By rights, it
should. Good Esme, the one with amnesia, wouldn't have broken into
someone's home, or consulted her psycho mother serving time in prison
for coping techniques, or gone to a bar for a drink when she was already
an hour late getting home to her child, but Psycho Esme would have done
all of those things in a heartbeat.
If her amnesia is cured, that has to mean she's a psycho again, doesn't
it, because how could she be anything else? She's either Angel Esme with
amnesia or Psycho Esme without amnesia. She wouldn't turn into a version
of Esme that never existed, would she? Angel Esme without amnesia? How
would that work?
That said, this show plays so fast and loose with mental conditions that
I suppose it wouldn't be all that surprising for her to become yet a
third version of Esme: Angel Esme with Psycho Esme's memories,
miraculously cured of psychopathy. Look what they did with Ned--turned
him into a person who existed only as a stage name, yet somehow came
into being as a living man with Ned Ashton's memories of performing...as
Eddie Maine. As if that's not enough to make your head spin. So why
*not* a hybrid Angel/Psycho Esme?
