Does anyone know why Wipeout was cancelled after only one season? Was it low
ratings? Just curious. I really liked that game show and felt it should have
had a longer run. Does anyone agree with me?

Joe

P.S. Who was the annoucer and director on Wipeout?

I don't know what time Wipeout aired in most markets but it was on at 5 AM
here in Cleveland. Needless to say, it didn't have respectable ratings at
that time. :-)

I thought Wipeout was one of the better overall shows of the late 80s. I
wish it would have lasted much longer.

The EoTVGS2 lists Jim Hackett, Bob Ridgely, and John Harlan as announcers
and Jerome Shaw as the director.

Wipeout was pretty good. I kinda was irked that the second round was basically
"Auction" from Tic Tac Dough or "Gambling Debt" from Debt. The semi-overkill of
the CG during that Race Game-type bonus round irked me too.

Well, I can think of 3 game shows off the top of my head that were
packaged by Paramount:

WIPEOUT
ANYHTING FOR MONEY
and THE NIGHTTIME PRICE IS RIGHT '94

I think a lot of the fault had to fall on Paramount as they never had
what it took to get good clearances on these shows (although AFM was a
stiff) in a lot of the markets. Paramount never could sell their game
shows as well as they could their entertainment or talk shows. Pity.

Well, for one thing, WCBS, the NY CBS o&o station aired it in blocks
on weekends.. 3 eps on Saturday 2 on Sunday....at 4 am... However one
good thing that came of this ...I taped the eps due to the late showing
and have them still today which wouldn't have happenend had they been
on at 7:30..

Another game show packaged by PARAMOUNT TELEVISION would be Bobby Van's "Make
Me Laugh" back in 1979.
"Anything For Money" was an alright show in the early 1980's, and Fred
Travelena can still do good impressions and make us laugh most of the time.
