I cannot believe that Jay Wolpert is the executive producer of the current
version of MATCH GAME with Michael Burger. Doesn't he have his own production
company, which had shows like HIT MAN, RODEO DRIVE, SKEDDADLE, BLACKOUT, WHEW,
+ two shows that were on The Family Channel before it became Fox Family. I do
know he was one of the producers for current version of THE PRICE IS RIGHT with
Bob Barker for a while, as well as THE NEW PRICE IS RIGHT with Doug Davidson of
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, as well as the Goodson/Todman version of DOUBLE
DARE with ALEX TREBEK.

Also, with MATCH GAME back on the air, I wonder if there will be any other Mark
Goodson shows that will be returning to the air? Such as TO TELL THE TRUTH,
CARD SHARKS, WHAT'S MY LINE, I'VE GOT A SECRET, or PASSWORD. It would be great
if any of these shows came back since THE PRICE IS RIGHT is still running.

I am asking this because I was a fan of a lot of Mark Goodson shows starting
with the original MATCH GAME (72) with Gene Rayburn.

You must be new to a.t.g-s, in which case Welcome! You'll find may people here
who are fans of Goodson-Todman classics, and appreciate the works of Jay
Wolpert as well. I say you must be new, because there has been must discussion
the last couple years as Pearson/All-American has tried to launch other new
versions of G-T classics, the current proposed show being a new Family Feud,
with Louie Anderson set to host. (Card Sharks and Password are others that had
been considered for syndication, but unfortunately have yet to become series.

Just a minor correction, but the orginal Match Game actually aired during the
1960s, although it is the first revival from the 70s that most people in the
newsgroup know and love, especiaaly since few episodes of the original exist,
while the later version airs 6 nights a week on GSN. (Not to mention the fact
that the first version was relatively dull compared to the craziness of the
'70s and today -- although I remember enjoying the original as a child.)

No doubt someone here will point you the way to a terrific web page about all
the various incarnations of MG, including sound clips and photos.

it's not unprecedented.
i do know that bill carruthers was called in to get the cosby version of You
Bet Your Life off the ground.
there probably are other cases, but that's the only one which comes to mind.

Thanks for the response.

BTW, will this new version of FAMILY FEUD return in its normal form? That is
in 30 minutes without the "Bullseye" or "Bank Roll" that the previous versions
had.

Also, why remove the wheel from Super-Match the in the current version MATCH
GAME when it was a good addition to the 1970's version, and also was in the
1990-91 version. It was great to see people win $10,000 on the wheel when it
landed on some stars in the 70's version, or red dots in the 90-91 version. I
could suspect budget problems but it could be unlikely. Also, the
celebrity panel is down by one when the 70's version had six. Since
most games have gone digital, I missed the red circles and the blue
triangles that were the displays in the 70's version. However, the contestant
would try to see how much they would play for in the MATCH GAME/HOLLYWOOD
SQUARES HOUR by choosing a star with either a 10, 20, or 30 to make the stakes
at up to $30,000.

Hoping to see new versions of MG panel shows WHAT'S MY LINE, I'VE GOT A SECRET,
and TO TELL THE TRUTH in the future.

I believe that Bill Carruthers was also involved in Trump Card.
Carruthers' partner in crime, Bill Mitchell, also worked on Wipeout.

I would not mind if, when the current MATCH GAME ups its budget, it adopts the
bonus approach during its 1980s merger with SQUARES (choose the star with a
"double" and double the bonus money).

If the new Feud is half an hour, they should leave out Bullseye, because most of
the fun of the show is in the Feud itself. But they added Bullseye for the
hour-long Challenge version, and it worked well there since an hour needs more
variety!
