Does anyone have further details?
Not details but pure speculation and hunch.
Paul Alter is close to 80 now and I would guess that he probably wants to
enjoy his golden years. He served the show well for many years, going back
to the Cullen era.
Eskander does have some directorial experience, having done "Card Sharks"
and "Family Feud". Didn't he also do "The New Price Is Right"?
As for Eskander's slot, the no-brainer choice is stage manager Fred Witten,
who was AD on "Wheel Of Fortune" in the 80's when Mark Corwin was director.

I hope they didn't lay off the legendary Paul Alter. UNless, of course, Alter
is planning to retire.
Wasn't Dick Carson director on "Wheel of Fortune" from about 1980 to
1999? I know that Mark Corwin was AD when Carson was director and now
(since 1999) he is director.

Before you buy.
No, TNPiR '94 was directed by Andrew Felsher, w/Eskander serving in the same
capacity (AD) as the daytime version.
Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")
While I agree with the general tone of your post ;-) we don't know how Paul
himself feels about continuing to direct the show. Remember that Hal Gurnee
wanted out when he left the Letterman show. For all we know the decision for him
to leave could be "mutual".
It is my fervent hope that Pearson will in some way recognize his very valuable
contributions spanning several decades to the company they own, and do more than
unceremoniously cast him aside, but I'm not holding my breath.
Stay tuned for my other post to see who else got the axe. Someone we see
quite a bit of on Price.

That ought to be quite an event. If it was Princeton he was speaking at, I'd
go.
>It will be interesting to see whether anything about Pearson's "Price
>Is Right" layoffs will be discussed during the interview.
If it's true about Kathleen and especially Janice, I'm pissed at Pearson. It'll
make everything GSN has done anti game-show seem less so.
Who wants to bet Rod(although some have argued he's not what he was in 1986),
goes next?
From that same reliable source: Pearson has also laid off
Janice Pennington and Kathleen Bradley; when Price resumes
taping on October 30, they'll have two new models. An
official announcement of some sort will appear in the
trades -- tomorrow, I gather.
At the very least, cards and letters thanking Paul, Janice
and Kathleen for all the years of entertainment and wishing
them will in future endeavors would seem like an appropriate
gesture. While it would be impolitic of me to encourage
anyone to write to Pearson US, I would strongly urge those
who choose to do so to keep their letters relevant and
polite.
I'm old(er than many of you) and cynical, it takes a lot to
shock me, but damn, when I got the call yesterday confirming
the news, I fell into my chair, shocked.
Thank you Janice, thank you Kathleen, thank you Paul, thank
you everyone else for treating Price like the flagship it
is, keeping it bright and shiny and keeping it ona steady
forward course.

Which Pearson seems more than willing to derail in a short amount of time :(
Who wants to bet Rod goes next(albeit Rod is kind of a shadow of his 1986 self)
A well-placed source says he wants Barker's job. IMO it ain't gonna happen.
IMO if they can find someone who will work for scale, they could wind up with a
new announcer.
Probably not, given that many say Rod is a shadow of his 1986 self.

Well, there are two good announcer possibilities if Rod does go(and I only say
IF): Randy West or Burton Richardson.
Anybody for a chorus of "Jump The Shark"?
Seriously, though, I believe the TPIR website stil has the e-mail
outlets for both Janice and Kathleen, while Kathleen also has her own
website, kathleenbradley.com.
Wish them the best while we can, I guess.

Oh well--best wishes to all the laid-off TPiR staff.

10 Chances becomes 9 Chances
Lucky 7 becomes Lucky 6
Golden Road becomes Golden Cul-De-Sac
Clock Game will only use a 15 second clock
Triple Play's first car will involve picking the closest price out of a
field of 10.
Cliffhanger will only have 5 steps and will now be called Ditchhanger
Dice Game becomes Die Game
Joker will use 4 joker cards out of the 5.
Pathfinder will be played without the prizes for additional chances.
Shell Game will now use an official New York CIty con artist.
Grocery Game will now use a self-serve scanner.
Folks, although this is sad news from studio 33, I am used to it because
this is what has been happening in the radio business for years -- big
conglomerate buys something they can't really afford, then gets rid of
the familiar personalities and homogenizes the whole operation to
*think* they will get their losses back -- Hence why I gave up radio.
T. Jay
Well, I'm sure the TPiR website will be taking care of that link in a
few weeks.
T. Jay
Meantime, anybody wanna bet when Viacom [CBS' owners] will ever get around
to purchasing Pearson's game show formats?
Hopefully very VERY soon.
Richard Hudson
well the b.s. being slung around in the price is
right bravenet forum is that janice and kathleen
have been fired
what a crappy gig...now this show wont make a
30th season...
the ratings will slide for sure if this is true
By the way, Bob Barker commented during his interview today at WBZ-TV/Boston:
"I plan to play out my hand with 'The Price Is Right.'" He also acknowledged
that "The Price Is Right" is now (fully) owned by Pearson Television.
It will be interesting to hear what more he has to say this evening at Harvard
University.
It's Optional will be revived but players don't win a car, they just win the
options.
Showcase Showdown: the $1,000 bouns will be converted to 1,000 units of some
foreign currency which comes out to about $12.50 U.S.
Pearson gets a 20% cut of all backstage bets on Hole In One or Two.
Golden Road becomes Aluminum Road.
Pearson melts down the sequins in Rod Roddy's wardrobe and offers it as a silver
ingot in One Bid.

If you're worried that they're killing the show, boycotting it is hardly
going to send the right message ... unless it's so ruined that you want it
to stop production.

So a $1,000 lire bonus comes to about $14.29 U.S.?
