Here's the skinny: It starts Monday, October 13. Not the 11th as we
had thought. And, this is what I'm not happy with. There is no sign of
"Match Game" anywhere on the schedule. All of us who are eagerly
awaiting the MG'78 set change may not get our wish.
Many of your G/T favorites cannot be found. There is NO incarnation of
"Password" to be found anywhere, nor TTTT, WML?, IGAS, and others I
know I've missed.
This is a decidedly different GSN...
Anyway, it begins at 6:00 a.m., Monday October 13th, so here we
go....

If GSN really didn't get the G/T show rights, maybe they should think about
calling up whoever has the Carruthers shows (PYL) and the Reg Grundy ones
as soon as possible. Aside from the obvious bright spots, let's face it, there
is not much left. (Also, adding Bullseye and finally airing the Cullen TJW's
would help too, as well as maybe tracking down Randy's favorite g/s at last)

So far, so good. Esp. Treasure Hunt and 20k Pyramid!
YUCK! Chuckie Baby's WORST show! The show tried to answer the question:
Who knows more about a husband, his wife or his secretary? It was VERY
shortlived!! Put it on the weekend schedule! Hope GSN comes to their
senses and replaces IT with MG.

BTB would be fine if it was the Tom Kennedy version. I'll settle for Jack
Barry as well, but Tom was a much better host. Let's just hope this isn't
the Gene Rayburn version!
These shows SUCKED!! One's a stupid stunt show, another a MG ripoff, and
the last show is one of the SLEAZIEST shows I've ever watched!!
Not to complain; I am glad they're adding Go, Pass the Buck, Chain
Reaction, Treasure Hunt, Break the Bank. and of course, the Pyramid,
but there are some shows that just aren't fit for the GSN lineup!
And BTW, why are they putting Pass the Buck on at 3 AM?? Personally, I'd
rather see it where Ruckus is scheduled to air and let Ruckus get the
3 AM slot.
One last thing: I have a good number of eps. of these G-T shows that GSN
will no longer be airing (for just a while, I hope), so if anyone wants
to trade, feel free to e-mail me.
Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")
As for GSN's Fall Schedule, I am highly disappointed that Match Game has
left the schedule (even though my cable system doesn't even offer
GSN!!!) MG '7X was a true classic, and it would be a terrible shame if
it disappeared from GSN for good! :( Also, I think "Newlywed Game" and
"Dating Game" are getting WAY too much overplay, so much that it's
ridiculous!
Maybe USA might want to reconsider its schedule and consider returning
the GS to its lineup, especially if the G-T shows disappear from GSN for
good! :)
Any thoughts?

I'm in agreement with everyone else that's commented that this schedule is
mediocre at best. Great, we got some of the B/E, Barris, and Stewart shows
added, but to toss the majority of the G/T shows into mothballs is tantmount
to comitting suicide. Six eps of Dating Game (seven on Fridays) is entirely
uncalled for and I hope we (along with the viewers) flood GSN with letters
telling them to reconsider. Just as a BTW, did anyone else notice that the
"classic" (B/W) stuff had been reduced to ZERO?!?
To Sony--I sincerely hope you know what you're doing because you are really
walking a thin line dumping the majority of the current shows and adding
mostly short lived shows.

That is a crime against humanity. By far, one of the best game shows
in TV history and GSN won't air it.

A little too much, GSN. 1/4 of their line-up are 2 "games of love".
THAT is a crime against humanity! :-)
Treasure Hunt twice a day is a nice addition. GO! is a decent show,
IMO, but it should be a weekend show.

Fridays" good.

Go! will also air on Saturdays?! It's not a bad move, but the show's

Does anyone know which version of CR will air? I like them both, but
Cullen's version is a bit better IMO. (Sorry Geoff. :-) )
>2:00 a.m. Hot Potato

These 2 shows shouldn't be buried in the middle of the night on the
weekends. Remove one of the DG/NG blocks and replace it with HP and
PtB.

Will Sunday now be known as Must NOT See TV? I haven't seen any of
these shows with the exception of Perfect Match but I have seen many
posts about these shows and few, if any, are good.
I was ready to get a dish by the end of the year because GSN had such
a strong line-up as well as a great variety of shows. Now, I'm having
second thoughts. They did make some great additions (Pass the Buck,
Go!, Pyramid, Chain Reaction, Hot Potato, Jackpot!) IMO, but none of
those shows minus Pyramid are in the class of Match Game, Card Sharks,
Now You See It, etc., in addition to the DG/NG issue.

Good thing I taped almost all of the TTTT, IGAS, WML? eps when I did.
This sched. is sad...no MG, TOO much DG/NG.
Work on those negotiations, fellahs...

I always thought that Chuck Barris' shows got short shrift when it came to
the GSN lineup, but I see now that he's finally getting his due. I note
that "The Gong Show" is now on the GSN lineup for the first time, and
"Treasure Hunt" as well.
I'm gonna miss all those Goodson-Todman shows. (Theoretically speaking. I
don't even have GSN, so I can't really miss something I never really had to
begin with...)

It seems as if those of you who actually do watch now, and who actually do
make the concept of this channel viable long-term, vehemently disagree with
this approach. I'd strongly urge you to intelligently, throughtfully and
en masse convey those feelings both to GSN and Sony management. If nothing
else, if Sony does manage to acquire All American, and thus the library you
feel so strongly about, there will be mounds of support to reinstate
things. Short of that, and, frankly, these kind of
hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars deals are out of all of our hands, you may
get them to rethink what they are doing with what they will have to work
with if the Goodson classics go into legal purgatory. Clearly, you
represent a critical constituency which sounds like it is being ignored.
Good luck to you all...
USA would be good. How about the Family Channel? Or maybe TV Land? Or
VH-1? (Name That Tune, maybe?)
Well, perhaps GSN is just changing the schedule for now, especially
since the G-T shows have dominated most of their entire schedule since
the beginning.
Suggestions for shows they SHOULD add:
Scrabble
Sale of the Century
Press Your Luck
Win, Lose or Draw( now that Pictionary is on)
You Bet Your Life (Groucho's version)
Time Machine
Rhyme and Reason
Concentration (if any of the NBC eps. are still around, as well as the
Jack Narz and "Classic/Trebek" versions)
Celebrity Sweepstakes
Love Connection
An EXCELLENT show they should add ought to be:
LET'S MAKE A DEAL!
If they did that, man that network can definitly find a home in ALL
cable systems all over the world!
Only time can tell!
The J-man
>SATURDAYS
>>8:00 a.m. Junior Pyramid

Just how many eps of these exist? Not many, I'd imagine, since the "Junior
Pyramid" concept was on a limited basis and not a separate series. What
does GSN plan on doing, repeating these after a month or two?!?
And what happens to "Mr.Game Show"? Does he disavow of any knowledge of the
G/T games since they can't air the shows or the clips anymore?!? ("What's My
Line?, never heard of it"). What about all those cutesy celebrity promos
("I run home, turn on the TV and watch Game Show Network"). I assume those
are history too.

DIDN'T! MY PARENTS GREW UP WITH IGAS AND I DIDN'T! THERE ARE LOTS OF
SHOWS FROM THAT COMPANY THAT WERE BEFORE MY TIME THAT I MUST SEE WHEN (or
should I say IF) COX GETS GSN FOR CHRISTMAS (and rumors are THEY MIGHT!)
Well, not yet. JEP! will not be starting until December.

Other than writing to Sony and GSN, is there anybody here who can honestly
say they understand what he's talking about?

I think I might understand part of it. Basically, what he's saying is that
Sony wants to do whatever they want, and if that includes using their own
library and not paying for the G/T library (thus saving money), so be it,
they don't expect to add a whole lot of viewers anyway (or they figure
nobody is watching).
Then again, I could be wrong...

clears up a lot for me...

I guess they changed their mind? If so, I am glad!!!

I must have made a mistake, I thought I was posting to
alt.tv.game-shows, not
alt.let's-make-fun-of-someone-because-they-like-a-show-I-don't.
Let me just say from personal experience that it really stinks to post
something and find someone just attack you for no explicable reason.
No one wants to hear anyone's opinion of anyone else on this group.
Period. Take it outside, folks. Or better, send an e-mail. I'd
rather read about game show news in this group, not "how stupid
someone is compared to me" posts.

Must be a BAD thing because I used to like Mark Walberg on STYD when I was

Again, I agree! It's ALSO a lineup I proposed for weekends on the Game
Channel, TV's SECOND all-game-show cable network (actually, what Chuck
Donegan said in August he would put on had the Game Channel got off the
ground), to which Richard Hudson, when he saw that proposal, replied:
"I'm sorry and I know that Wolpert had some great shows, but
I think based on his track record, he should have stayed with
Goodson-Toodman. Besides why not have a Hatos-Hall Weekend. I have a great
idea for a new version of Split Second
that could be played by kids or adults."
Hey, Richard, are you reading this? Let's hear that idea!
>>You can't spell Great Television without G.T. :-)

>You can't spell GAME SHOW NETWORK without GT either!

Ah, but maybe we shouldn't think that Sony is doing this "because they feel
like it". Something tells me that Sony is doing this to try to get the
price of AATV down (since it's currently "valued" at $500-600M, and they're
not willing to pay that much). I think by showing that they have enough
episodes to keep the network running (despite our distaste in it), Sony
doesn't look like they're desperate for the G/T eps. Just think to the
analogy of a person contemplating purchasing a flashy sports car. If he
shows too much interest in it, no way is he going to get a good price on
it!!

Must've been three or four years since USA took them off.
And I heard somewhere they'll ALL catch
"repeat-the-same-eps-over-and-over-itis" from Super Friends on Cartoon
Network the same way Password Plus caught "change-the-rules-itis" from Card
Sharks!
> Me Too. When was the last time we were able to watch Dick Clark on
> Pyramid?
That would be about 3 years ago on USA when there was an hour block of
25K/100K.
First, the shows in blocks. I'd prefer variety. As it is now, I can turn
on the network and see over 20 different shows in a 12-hour period. I
like that.
Also, it's not the greatest show and Dave Nemeth makes a lot of stupid
jokes, but keep Gameworld. Ideally it'd include TPIR, Debt, WBSM,
$hopping $pree, Make Me Laugh, etc. But it's better than nothing, at
least for the Australian gong show clips.
Also, What's my LIne and To Tell the Truth at 4:30 and 5:00 in the
morning? You've got to be kidding, right? I usually sit down at 11 and
atch WML, TTTT, Password, and Tattletales every night because they're all
great shows.
So am I, even though the rumors are Cox might get GSN for Christmas!
> MG '7X was a true classic, and it would be a terrible shame if
>it disappeared from GSN for good! :(
BIG agreement there! I was all set to record MG '7x when Cox adds GSN and
now GSN wants to take that away from their schedule? Why?
>Also, I think "Newlywed Game" and
>"Dating Game" are getting WAY too much overplay, so much that it's
>ridiculous!
So do I! Infact, whoever posted this new schedule could've also listed
next to the schedule what years they're going to be showing of those programs.
The Dating and Newlywed Games SIX times a day (SEVEN on Fridays) will NOT
be what I want to see when (or should I say IF) Cox gets GSN for Christmas!
I'd like to propose MY list of shows which I feel they should run, and
give my dream weekday schedule:

11:30 p.m. The Perfect Match w/Dick Enberg
12:00 a.m. Beat the Clock (two eps. - one Narz and one Wood)
I know this list IS perfect, because I worked ONLY with shows that GSN has
rights to air and are in their library! Well, I didn't do away with the
Chuck Barris stuff altogether like I thought I would, but at least I keep
it somewhat out of reach of the young ones by sticking it in the wee hours
of the morning, and I've managed to bring back the Goodson/Todman shows
just like you wanted, among other classics, and two things you'll notice
when you look at this schedule:
1. I did NOT include anything we may never see again due to NBC erasing
old eps. of WoF (from the Woolery era, of course!) and HS, among other shows!
2. None of the programs are shown twice a day!
Any Thoughts?

Brad, it's clear that you haven't read any of scott j's previous
posts...the vast majority of his posts have consisted of bashing the
classic shows and producers and putting things like TJW90 & Ruckus on
a pedastal...
And since when was "enigma" a dirty word or an attack? It is defined
as "puzzling"...am I not allowed to be puzzled by scott j's posts? I
didn't call him stupid...
Also, you say "No one wants to hear anyone's opinion of anyone else on
this group. Period." Brad, I can recall an occasion in the past where
you have done the same...this is kinda the pot calling the kettle
black...and isn't your little tyrade here really nothing more than you
stating your opinion of what you think of me or my actions? Doesn't
that kinda make you guiity of the same crime you are accusing me of?
Maybe just having a bad day, Brad? You might want to consult your
dictionary before accusing someone of an "attack"...calling someone an
enigma is not an attack...
Take a deep breath...ease off the caffeine a bit...
Jake
>WEEKDAYS
>10:00 a.m. Password (in greyscale)
Greyscale? Last time I checked, that was called "black and white"...
>11:00 a.m. Password Plus w/Allen Ludden on Mon.-Thu. and Tom Kennedy on Fri.
It would work better the other way around...I believe there are more
Kennedy eps that Ludden eps...
>2:30 p.m. Chain Reaction w/Bill Cullen (Nice Try, Geoff, but no cigar!)
Nope...won't work...there are only 13 weeks worth of episodes...you
don't want to have to rerun the series 4 times in one year...

I said it on the mailing list and i'll say it here. I hope that SONY
dosen't get the rights to the Goodson Toddman library, whatever the cost. .
If they scan screw up Pyramid, think of what they can do tp Price or Family
Feud of Password <any incarnation> I say sell the company to Bob Stweart.
He dosen't have to be creative, he just has to produce the games with the
same format thatb they have always had.

But you can come close.....while remaining sensibly hopeful about the situation, I intend to think of this as a vacation of our favorites...and an opportunity to see (and possibly) make new favorites. Television, like life is not fair.
