Here are the 8 contestants who will take part in tonight's show. One of them will walk away
with up to $1 million. The rest will leave with nothing as round by round they are voted off
as...

THE WEAKEST LINK! (for Tuesday, April 18)
=========================================

Contestants:
(Name, Age, Location, Occupation)
KIM, 39, Dallas, TX, Pediatric Flight Nurse
TANSY, 40, West Hills, CA, Actress
CHUCK, 35, Dallas, TX, Hockey Referee
CHERYL, 22, Coconut Creek, FL, Singer
KEVIN, 26, Spring Lakes Heights, NJ, Middle School Math Teacher
JILL, 40, Detroit, MI, Attorney
JAMIE, 25, Philadelphia, PA, Rock Climbing Consultant
GEORGE, 49, Martin, IL, "Certifiably Unemployable" (he can't find a job, either)

ROUND 1 2 minutes, 30 seconds
Money "banked": $5,000
Chains "banked": 1
KIM : 2 answers right, 1 answer wrong
TANSY : 2 answers wrong *WEAKEST LINK*
CHUCK : 1 answer right, 1 answer wrong
CHERYL: 2 answers right
KEVIN : 2 answers right *STRONGEST LINK*
JILL : 1 answer wrong, 1 answer wrong, 1 chain banked *BANKED MOST*
JAMIE : 2 answers wrong
GEORGE: 2 answers wrong

"Who is already trying your patience? Who, alas, is not burdened with intelligence?"

KIM : TANSY
TANSY : GEORGE
CHUCK : GEORGE
CHERYL: JAMIE
KEVIN : TANSY
JILL : TANSY
JAMIE : GEORGE
GEORGE: CHUCK

Anne: "All right, team, we have a tie: Tansy and George with 3 votes each. Let me tell you
first, though, about your performance as a team: you managed to answer more questions
INCORRECTLY than those you've answered correctly. So it would be fair to say, at this stage,
I'm not dying with admiration at your performance. Jill...why have you chosen Tansy?"
Jill: "Because Tansy seems EXTREMELY uncomfortable up here."
Anne: "And YOU are comfortable, are you, Jill?"
Jill: "Quite."
Anne: "We'll see about that. Chuck, how's it going for you?"
Chuck: "Great."
Anne: "You think answering one question correctly is 'great'?"
Chuck: "I feel confident."
Anne: "Why have you voted for George?"
Chuck: "Because he didn't bank any money and he got questions wrong."
Anne: "Well, when the vote is tied, the 'strongest link' has to cast the deciding vote.
Kevin, you were the 'strongest link' in the last round. You had chosen Tansy, but you can
change your mind. So...who would you rather get rid of: Tansy or George?"
Kevin: "I think I might...go out on a limb and change my vote."
Anne: "Why is that, Kevin?"
Kevin: "'Cause I've decided that...not banking money is what is costing us, as a team, the
most right now. And George had some oppotunities and didn't take advantage of them."
Anne: "Well, this is a moment of relief for Tansy, who's the actress who's never heard of the
Academy Awards (Tansy didn't know that Kevin Spacey won the 1999 Best Actor Academy Award for
"American Beauty"). Not only that...statistically, she was the worst player in the last
round. George, without hesitation, I can say...you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 2 2 minutes, 20 seconds
Money "banked": $5,500
Chains "banked": 4
KIM : 1 answer right, 1 answer wrong, 1 chain banked

KIM : CHERYL
TANSY : CHUCK
CHUCK : TANSY
CHERYL: TANSY
KEVIN : TANSY
JILL : TANSY
JAMIE : CHERYL

Anne: "Chuck...not a single question answered correctly in that round. Is there any beginning
to your knowledge? Jill, the attorney...human rights not something you have knowledge of?"
Jill: "CRIMINAL law is what I do."
Anne: "So we must be understanding about you not knowing the difference between Gandhi and the
Dalia Lama (Jill thought Gandhi won the Nobel Peace Prize for his help ending Chinese
domination of Tibet). Why Tansy?"
Jill: "Because I think Tansy is frightened by you, and we can't have anyone on the team who's
frightened by you."
Anne: "Tansy, you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 3 2 minutes, 10 seconds
Money "banked": $3,500
Chains "banked": 2

JILL : 1 answers right, 2 answer wrong, 1 chain banked *BANKED MOST*

"Who's knowledge is better suited to WATCHING television rather than APPEARING on it?"

KIM : JILL
CHUCK : KIM
CHERYL: KIM
KEVIN : CHUCK
JILL : KIM
JAMIE : KIM

Anne: "Team...it would be fair to say you have been consistant. Chuck...you've had a few jobs
in your time."
Chuck: "I have, indeed."
Anne: "Share some of them with us."
Chuck: "I've been a financial consultant...I've been a car salesman..."
Anne: "I suppose that, if you don't know what an Audi is, there wasn't much of a CAREER for
you in selling cars (Chuck didn't know that Audi made the "TT Roadster"). Why did you vote
for Kim?"
Chuck: "Unfortunately, Kim has gotten most of her answers wrong and, uh, has cost the rest of
the team."
Anne: "Kim, with 4 votes, you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 4 2 minutes even
Money "banked": $15,000
Chains "banked": 6
CHUCK : 3 answers right, 0 answer wrong

CHUCK : JAMIE
CHERYL: JAMIE
KEVIN : JAMIE
JILL : JAMIE
JAMIE : CHERYL

Anne: "Chuck...why Jamie?"
Chuck: "Why you take too long to think about the answers, it costs the team."
Anne: "Jill...why did you vote for Jamie as the 'weakest link' Karen?"
Jill: "Because he is getting his answers incorrect."
Anne: "Did you think he was the 'weakest link'?"
Jill: "Obviously. That's why I voted for him."
Anne: "Well, that's something ELSE you've got wrong, Jill. Cheryl...statistically, you were
the the worst player. But it's votes that count. Jamie, with 3 votes, you ARE the 'weakest
link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 4 1 minute, 50 seconds
Money "banked": $0
CHUCK : 1 answers right, 2 answer wrong
CHERYL: 0 answers right, 2 answers wrong *WEAKEST LINK*
KEVIN : 0 answers right, 3 answer wrong
JILL : 1 answers right, 2 answer wrong *STRONGEST LINK*

"Who is a huge embarrassment to the American educational system?"

CHUCK : JILL
CHERYL: KEVIN
KEVIN : CHUCK
JILL : CHUCK

Anne: "(as if surprised) JILL...why Chuck?"
Jill: "Because Chuck didn't bank at the opportunity enough...he missed a banking oppurtunity
in that round."
Anne: "'He missed a banking oppurtunity'?"
Jill: "Yes."
Anne: "Kevin, what do you do?"
Kevin: "I'm a teacher."
Anne: "What sort of teaching?"
Kevin: "I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade."
Anne: "Would they agree with me that you, obviously, don't get out much? You've never heard
of T.L.C. (Anne gave the names of the members of the R&B girls' group, but Kevin got it
wrong)? You've never heard of 'Superstar' (Kevin also didn't know that Molly Shannon
headlined the film 'Superstar' as schoolgirl Mary Katheryn Gallager [just like her SNL sketch
character])?"
Kevin: "I'm just happy you've TALKED to me today, Anne."
Anne: "Well, mainly, I'm talking to you, Kevin, to tell you that, statistically, you were the
worst player. But, it's votes that count. Chuck, you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 5 1 minute, 40 seconds
Money "banked": $0
CHERYL: 1 answers right, 2 answer wrong
KEVIN : 2 answers right, 1 answer wrong *STRONGEST LINK*

KEVIN : JILL
JILL : CHERYL

Anne: "Kevin...had enough of Jill, have you?"
Kevin: "I have to say...her negative energy, it's just...bringing me down."
Anne: "Jill, you have delighted us for long enough! You ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

Anne: "Stan,...how's it going for you?"
Stan: "Real good...real good."
Anne: "'Real good'...where are you from?"
Stan: "La Verne, California."
Anne: "Why Glenn?"
Stan: "Uh, he missed two questions and acorns come from OAK trees (Glenn had thought they were
from ELM trees) and that's pretty easy."
Anne: "Margaret,...what do you do?"
Margaret: "I work at the Motion Picture Academy."
Anne: "Have you heard of Val Kilmer?"
Margaret: "I have, but I have not seen that movie (she refers to 'Red Planet', which Kilmer is
in, instead of 'Mission to Mars', which she THOUGHT he was in)."
Anne: "I see...so you only know about movies you've seen. Why did YOU vote for Glenn?"
Margaret: "He...missed a few answers and he also took a lot of time, so I felt like we needed
to go faster to build up our chain."

Anne: "Did you think he was the 'weakest link'?"

Margaret: "Yes."
Anne: "Oh. Statisically, Margaret, he wasn't. Do you want to have a crack at who WAS,
statistically, the 'weakest link'? Well, let me tell you"
Margaret: "Okay..."
Anne: "It was MARGARET! But, it's votes that count. And, Glenn, with 4 votes, you ARE the
'weakest link'. Good-bye."

STAN : CAROL
JOHNATHAN: STAN
MARGARET : CAROL
ERIC : CAROL
LISA : CAROL
JOHN : CAROL
CAROL : ERIC

Anne: "Alright, team, let me remind you of a few things. It is important to bank
strategicaly; you got six questions correct in a row and, if you had banked cleverly, that
would have made you $50,000. You did it AGAIN; you could have EASILY reached your target of
$125,000 in that last round (See, told ya). Eric,...remind us what you do..."
Eric: "I am a CPA."
Anne: "Did you understand what I just said?"
Eric: "I did."
Anne: "Well, THAT's a comfort. Why have you voted for Carol?"
Eric: "Two of her questions she had wrong. I can forgive her for not knowing Carson Daly
'cause it's fairly recent, MTV, Total Request Live (Carol thought Lisa Sharp hosted TRL, not
Daly). However, I do think she should've known Merv Griffin instead of Milton Berle (Carol
though Berle made "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!", not Griffin). So, for those reasons, I
think she needs to go."
Anne: "Carol, with 5 votes, you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

Anne: "Johnathan, what do you do?"
Johnathan: "I'm an obstetrician/gynocologist."
Anne: "Hmm, well, I'll keep my feet on the ground, then. That's the SECOND time you've voted
for Stan."
Johnathan: "Yes, uh, well, in this past round, he got two wrong and one of them was a medical
question so I'm a little, uh, biased there, but I thought that he should know the angles of a
triangle (Stan thought each angle in the sides of an equilateral triangle had 30 degrees, not
60)."
Anne: "Stan, with 5 votes, you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

dollars by now. You've settled for $41,000. We can't accuse you of being greedy.
Eric,...how did you at school, Eric?"
Eric: "I did well."
Anne: "How well?"
Eric: "I was valedictorian of my high school class."
Anne: "You were valedictorian of my high school class!? And is that where they taught you
that Thomas Edison wrote the dictionary (Eric thought Edison, not Noah Webster, wrote the
dictionary for the English language)? Margaret, our motion picture expert...why have you
voted for John?"
Margaret: "The questions he missed, and I thought we could've, y'know, gone faster and gotten
more."
Anne: "You're fast, are you?"
Margaret: "I'd like to THINK so."
Anne: "Well, John...went from the 'STRONGEST link' to the 'WEAKEST link'...a HUGE reversal of
fortunes. With 2 votes, John, you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 4 1 minute, 50 seconds

Money "banked": $7,500
Chains "banked": 1
JOHNANTHAN: 3 answers right
MARGARET : 3 answers right *STRONGEST LINK*
ERIC : 3 answers wrong, 2 chains banked *WEAKEST LINK* *BANKED MOST*
LISA : 1 answer right, 2 answers wrong

"Who is costing you dollars by the second? Dispatch the dead wood..."

JOHNATHAN: LISA
MARGARET : ERIC
ERIC : LISA
LISA : MARGARET

Anne: "Johnathan, the gynocologist...voting off the female doctor on the other side..."
Johnathan: "Well, I think she got a lot wrong in that round and she tried to vote ME off the
last round."
Anne: "Eric...valedictorians...do they wear boxers or briefs (Anne asked this because Eric
thought former President Bill Clinton said on an MTV interview that he wore boxers, not
briefs?"
Eric: "If you promise not to tell anyone, briefs."
Anne: "Well, that's a deal, 'cause you've kept a lot of the right answers secret. Why did you
vote for Lisa?"
Eric: "I voted for Lisa just because she got the most questions wrong."
Anne: "She's been pretty good up 'till now."
Eric: "She has been."
Anne: "Statistically - and I know you'll understand this, because you're an accountant - you
were the WORST player. But, it's votes that count. Lisa, with 2 votes, you ARE the 'weakest
link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 5 1 minute, 40 seconds
Money "banked": $8,500
Chains "banked": 3
JOHNATHAN: 4 answers right *STRONGEST LINK*
MARGARET : 2 answers right, 2 answers wrong, 3 chains bank *BANKED MOST* *WEAKEST LINK*
ERIC : 3 answers right, 1 answer wrong
(Again, a run of 6....$50,000...squandered for 2 chains and $7,500)

"Who is least likely to assist you in raising the bank?"

JOHNATHAN: ERIC
MARGARET : JOHNATHAN
ERIC : JOHNATHAN

Anne: "Margaret,...have you had a bad experience with a gynocologist?"
Margaret: (blushing) "Um, no, thankfully."
Anne: "It wouldn't be - would it, Margaret - that you were getting rid of a serious rival?
(Margaret does not reply) Eric,...why have you voted for Johnathan?"
Eric: "I voted for Johnathan because of the Museum of Modern Art question (Johnathan went
temporarily dyslexic and said that "MOMA" was the "Modern Museum of Art")...I felt that's
right when our team started getting momentum going and that did slow us down."
Anne: "Who do you think, Eric, statistically was the worst player in that last round?"
Eric: "Statistically speaking, it probably WAS me..."
Anne: "There was nothing 'probably' about it, Eric. Statistically, you were the worst player,
but, it's votes that count! Johnathan, with 2 votes, you ARE the 'weakest link'. Good-bye."

ROUND 7 1 minute, 30 seconds
(DOUBLE ROUND)

Money "banked": $0 (doubled to...well, $0)
MARGARET : 1 answer right, 4 answers wrong
ERIC : 4 answers right
(Anne on the 'goose-egg': "The two of you in that round managed to bank absolutely NOTHING!
We cannot double that amount, alas, can we, Eric the accountant?" [Obviously, Eric agrees.])

PLAYOFF ROUND (BANKED GRAND TOTAL: $57,000)

Eric, being 'strongest link' of Round 7, elects to go first

Eric - Q: Which ballroom dance done in 3/4 time is named for the German word meaning "to
revolve"?
A: I'll guess the merengue (incorrect; waltz)
Margaret - Q: What phrase did astronomer Fred Hoyle coin to describe the scientifically
accepted theory of the beginning of the universe?
A: Big Bang thoery (correct)
Eric - Q: Which gland found at the base of the brain is known as the master gland of the
endocrine system?
A: The pituitary gland (correct)
Margaret - Q: In geography, which of the 5 Great Lakes lies ENTIRELY in U. S. territory?
A: Superior (incorrect; Michigan)
Eric - Q: Following a tradition started by race car driver Louis Meyer, what beverage do Indy
500 winners drink after the race?
A: Orange juice (incorrect; milk)
Margaret - Q: In movies, what comedian supplied the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the film "Toy
Story"?
A: Don Rickles (correct)
Eric - Q: In horticulture, what is the national flower of the United States?
A: Rose (correct)
Margaret - Q: In history, the attack on what South Carolina fort signified the start of the
Civil War?
A: Appamatox (incorrect; Sumter)
Eric - Q: For which film did actor Jack Nicholson earn his first Academy Award?
A: "Prizzi's Honor" (incorrect; "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest")
Margaret - Q: In television what do the initials of the network "QVC" stand for?
A: Quality, Value, Choice (incorrect; Quality, Value, Convenience)
(SUDDEN DEATH)
Eric - Q: In 1998, who became the oldest astronaut to fly in a space shuttle?
A: John Glenn (correct)
Margaret - Q: At Texas A & M University, what do the letters "A & M" stand for?
A: Agriculture and Mechanics (incorrect; AgriculturAL and MechanicAL)

1 2 3 4 5 6

Eric X O X O X O
Margaret O X O X X X

Eric is the Strongest Link and wins $57,000!
Margaret...leaves...with NOTHING!

Total money won on "Weakest Link": $168,000 out of a possible $3 million (5.6% of the possible
amount).
<Anne mode on> So...is it relatively safe to say that this team was slightly above average,
since the average money taken has been $56,000? If that is true, then it seems the
contestants are turning out to be SLIGHTLY more successful than the XFL. <Anne mode off>

A few more interesting facts: the final two in all three shows have always been the two in the
dead center (positions 4 and 5, if you will), it has always been man vs. woman...and the man
always won by getting the last correct answer. So...if you wanna win, be in either position 4
or 5...and make sure you're male and the last one next to you is female. :)

Margaret gets screwed on the following question:

According to the Texas A&M website, http://www.tamu.edu/00/data/about.html :

"Texas A&M, ... was opened on Oct. 4, 1876 as the Agricultrual and Mechanical
College of Texas.
[...]
In 1964, the name of the institution was changed to Texas A&M University [...].
The initials "A" and "M" are a link to the university's past; they no longer
represent any specific words [...]."

So the correct answer should have been: "nothing".

This is the same as asking what the "X" in "XFL" stands for.

Not duh. The official line of the XFL is something like "the XFL is the XFL,
it's not an abbreviation for anything (like the NFL is)."

Um, no. In fact, you fell for the author's exact point. While it seems fairly obvious
and reasonable to think that the "X" means "Xtreme", the marketing brain trust made a
big deal from the start of saying that the "X" doesn't really stand for anything.

Yep. From the FAQ at http://www.xfl.com/faq.html :

>>>
WHAT DOES XFL STAND FOR?
The letters XFL are not an abbreviation. The name of the league IS NOT
the Xtreme Football League.

Herb and Jerry, to be exact.

And, in the case of colleges, Agricultural and Mechanical.

Mark Jeffries--Yes I did, Geoff.
