*************************************************************************
* THE PRICE IS RIGHT: THE PRICING GAMES FROM A TO (ALMOST) Z *
* Number 8 in a series -- collect all 75! *
*************************************************************************
* Game Name: BULLSEYE I *
* When Played: September 4, 1972 - late September 1972 (retired) *
* Played for: Car or boat *
* Staging: Game board on turntable, Showcase podia used in nighttime *
* version *
* Models Used: Anitra Ford (nighttime version), who stood in front of *
* the unused gameboard holding the keys to the car *
* Gameplay: This game, unnamed on the show, had two distinct game *
* formats. On the daytime version, one player faced the Bullseye *
* board, which had a digital readout and seven lighted number *
* panels. The player had to give seven bids, with the host *
* prompting higher or lower, in order to get the price of the car. *
* The contestant was told the thousands bracket of the vehicle, *
* and there was no audience help allowed during the game, as the *
* car price was displayed onscreen throughout. And it was the *
* player's responsibility to remember the prior bids. If the player*
* stumbled across the price of the car, they won it. Simple as *
* that. As far as can be remembered, the car was never won during *
* the few times this game was played. *
* But when the game was played on the nighttime version of *
* the show, the car was always won. Before the one-bid, Dennis *
* James would announce that two players were required for this *
* game. The first one-bid winner would be placed at the top winner *
* Showcase podium and wait while someone else came on down and *
* another one-bid was played. That winner sat at the runner-up *
* podium. Then the keys and the car were displayed. The players, *
* starting with the first one-bid winner, traded bids (with higher *
* or lower prompts) until one player guessed the price of the car. *
* As the players bid, the bids were displayed on the Showcase *
* podia. *
* Notes: A game of firsts for "New Price Is Right": It was the first *
* game ever played on the show on September 4, 1972, it was the *
* first game to be given the heave-ho, and it was the first (and *
* so far only) pricing game to implicate 2 stage contestants. *
* (Partners, in the UK version, is a two-player affair.) *
* Thanks to Roger Dobkowitz for finally nailing down the name of this *
* blink-and-miss-it TPIR game. *
* Next: Bullseye II *

Ah contrair, my friend!!!

On the Wesy Coast, TPIR is airing (at least in San Francisco market and
above) and 2PM, after basketball coverage. So I got to see the whole show
as well.
