NY POST....By JEANE MacINTOSH, NEAL TRAVIS, ADAM MILLER, WARD MOREHOUSE III and
CATHY BURKE
-------------------------------------
The famously married Regis Philbin had a wild, cross-country sex romp with a
buxom blonde ex-cheerleader, a new report claims.

"We had sex every way you can think of - kissing, caressing, fondling, getting
naked, intimate touching, mutual oral sex. But no intercourse," former Notre
Dame cheerleading coach Maria Majerek, 39, claims in a diary obtained by the
National Enquirer.

In a piece of cheaters' logic last dispensed by the Oval Office, she also
wrote:

"It might seem strange, but we were both married and we felt we weren't really
committing adultery if we didn't have actual intercourse."

The 66-year-old "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and "Live With Regis" host and
Majerek, a jewelry saleswoman in a South Bend, Ind., suburb, shared a passion
for the Fighting Irish, Philbin's alma mater, and each other as well - in
several quick-get-naked trysts in various hotels, her diary claims.

Along with lots of steamy sex entries, she details some biting criticism
Philbin is said to have had of longtime morning-TV co-host Kathie Lee Gifford.

"Regis said she drove him crazy," Majerek reveals. "He told me: 'She never
shuts up about [her children] Cody and Cassidy.' "

Sources told The Post that Philbin tried to kill the Enquirer story. When he
realized he couldn't, they said he sat down with his wife Joy - his occasional
TV co-host - on Tuesday night and told her what was coming.

A spokeswoman for Philbin said he would not comment. His former co-host Kathie
Lee did not immediately return a call.

Majerek and Philbin first met in October 1991, when she began documenting the
fling.

After one tryst following a football banquet in South Bend, the Enquirer said,
Majerek wrote:

"Regis had me strip naked and put my fur coat back on. He loved that coat. We
made love. It was pure raw raging sex. ... Lots of kisses everywhere and very
passionate. We didn't have intercourse - EVERYTHING but!"

The couple's trysts took place in New York, South Bend, East Rutherford, N.J.,
and Milwaukee, according to the diary.

Their last meeting came in the fall of 1993, the tabloid said. Both were
married at the time of the romancing - Philbin to his second wife, Joy Senese,
whom he married in March 1970, and Majerek to Ted Majerek, whose family owns
card stores around Indiana.

Majerek had been trying to break into show biz long before she hooked up with
Philbin.

She went to Los Angeles at age 19, and in 1982 became a pro football
cheerleader for the Rams. Her ex-husband told The Post she even dated legendary
Jets quarterback Joe Namath for about six months in 1985 after meeting him at a
Tinseltown party.

She also had a bit role in an episode in the 1970s TV cop drama "CHIPs."

Majerek eventually moved back to Indiana, was named coach of the Notre Dame
cheerleading squad and married her hubby in 1986. The couple, who had two
children, divorced in 1994.

Maria Majerek couldn't be reached for comment. Majerek's ex also told The Post
Maria admitted the out-of-wedlock fling Wednesday - a day before the National
Enquirer ran the story.

Friends of Regis and Joy Philbin were shocked by the report.

"He doesn't do the things that he's been accused of," said his lawyer Robert
Cavallo. "I have to tell you it's unbelievable."

TV pitchman Ed McMahon said he didn't believe the story either.

"Regis has always been a wonderful guy and had a wonderful marriage," McMahon
said. "I can't even imagine Regis being in that kind of situation."

It's not the first time Philbin - or Kathie Lee - has been the talk of the
tabloids.

Gifford's husband, Frank, was caught in a steamy tryst with a busty stewardess,
while Philbin was once skewered for allegedly ignoring his handicapped son from
a first marriage.

NY POST....By ADAM MILLER
------------------------------------
The wealthy ex-husband of the woman named as Regis Philbin's mistress says he
never suspected she was cheating on him - and was shocked when the busty blonde
told him of a sizzling three-year affair.

Tad Majerek, 49 - married to former Rams cheerleader Maria Majerek from 1986 to
1994 - said he knew his sultry ex-wife and the TV talk-show host "were very
good friends, but didn't think at all that their relationship was romantic."

"I knew they were friendly," Majerek, told The Post in a phone interview from
South Bend, Ind. last night.

"They used to speak on the phone a lot. Whenever he came to town they would get
together. I was really surprised to learn that they had an affair," said a
stunned Majerek, who has two children with the former Notre Dame cheerleader
coach.

"He used to write her. I'm shocked. I never knew anything. She told me
[Wednesday] night that there was a story coming out that she had had a romantic
relationship with Regis Philbin - and that it was true," he said.

Philbin befriended Maria in October 1991 - and soon afterward they were
steaming it up, though Maria insists their sexplay stopped short of
intercourse.

Majerek, a stockbroker who previously worked in his family's greeting card
store chain, fell head over heels for Maria the very moment he saw the chesty
ex-cheerleader performing dinner theater in 1985 in his hometown of Niles,
Mich.

They started dating - and the following year they were married.

"I was attracted to her right away," said Majerek.

"I asked her out and before we knew it, we were married and we had a kid."

Majerek said he's not surprised that Philbin was smitten with his ex-wife, who
once dated Jets legend Joe Namath.

"She's got something nice about her. She's never had any trouble getting men,"
said Majerek, who insisted that their divorce had nothing to do with Maria's
secret tryst with the morning chat-show gabber.

But other kin described Maria, a jewelry saleswoman from the South Bend suburb
of Mishawaka, as a gold-digger.

NY POST...By ED ROBINSON
----------------------------------------
If TV host Regis Philbin needs a lifeline, he's getting one from his loyal fans
-most think allegations of marital infidelity should be a private matter.

"Oh, gosh, I just got a Clinton flashback!" said Tracy Smith, 33, of Brooklyn
yesterday.

Smith said the rumored affair won't keep her tuned out when the host of "Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire" and "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee" is on the tube.

"I still love Regis," she declared. "It's his personal business and it
shouldn't be exploited."

"Who wants to date a cheerleader?" said Andrew Kozak, 40, of Manhattan about
the upcoming National Enquirer story that claims Philbin carried on a
three-year affair with former Los Angeles Rams cheerleader Maria Majerek. Kozak
believes Regis is being victimized by the media.

"These kinds of stories just sell newspapers - this story means nothing to me."

Long Island schoolteacher Carol Goldberg said the Enquirer "set up" Regis.
"They're trying to get anything they can on him because he's become so big. I
think he's wonderful."

Marty Ott, 50, a tourist from Cincinnati feels that the marital woes of a
public figure should be kept out of the spotlight. "The president did it, the
mayor did it. It's nobody's business. Who cares?"

Even those troubled by the alleged affair believe Regis is getting a raw deal.
"Anyone who has an affair is disgusting, especially when they've been married
for years," said Jennifer Ybay, 25, of Yonkers. "It's unfortunate, but it
shouldn't be made public."

Other fans remained steadfast that the affair never happened.

"Knowing him, I don't think it's true," said Beth Broitman of Fort Lee, N.J.
"He's such a down-to-earth honest guy."

But Broitman bought into Majerek's allegations that Philbin's former co-host
Kathie Lee Gifford drove Regis up the wall by telling stories about her two
children and asking audience members to check teeth for lipstick smudges.

"I would believe that," she said. "She's always fussing around and talking
about her children."

Where have YOU been? The last few years the Enquirer has been
taking itself seriously. I've seen ads on magazine delivey trucks saying
"No Elvis...no UFOs" It wants to make itself over into a mainstream news
and information publication....and since mainstream news and information
today now focuses on the elements of sex, scandal and celebrity that
remains in the Enquirer even after the removal of Elvis and UFOs,
they've won half the battle.

I certainly don't. Regis' integrity is beyond reporach, IMO. His
personality doesn't seems to allow these allegations to come true.
People are just going to come after people like Reege, since they want
some of the money he's raking in.

The only reason to buy the Enquirer is to post it on a dart board and
shoot at it.

No ofensse to the people that say that it's starting to take itself
seriously, but in the end the Enquirer is a gossip rag that many
people will never take seriously.

Thank God I read WSJ...

It's starting to take itself seriously? That's seriously
bullshit.

I'm sure Regis is taking it very, very seriously. So is the National Enquirer,
because if Regis can prove the story is false he could collect damages from here
to the moon.

Whether you think it's bullshit or not, if the National Enquirer lost a libel
suit brought by Regis Philbin it would hit them squarely in the wallet to the
tune of millions. I can guarantee you one thing, the National Enquirer's upper
management and lawers went over that story with a fine-tooth comb before it was
published. They're not in business to lose millions of dollars in libel
judgements.

You do know what libel is, don't you?

Yes, I know what libel is and I wonder to myself how
that "magazine" doesn't get sued for slander all the time.

Believe it or not, it's very difficult for a star of Regis' caliber to sue over
something like that. Just proving the story was wrong isn't enough. You have
to prove "actual malice" (i.e., they didn't lift a finger to get his side of
the story, had information proving it was wrong and ignoring it, perhaps even a
"Don't let the facts interfere with a good story" attitude, etc.). It's a
different story with an average person, I'd own the place...but with public
figures it's a lot harder to prove. In fact it's even harder for politicians,
if not impossible.

They are also taking advantage of the fact that it's hard to prove a negative.

Oh by the way, no celebrity in the history of stage, screen, radio or television
has ever had an extramarital affair :-P

If Regis was to cheat on his wife why would he go after one that is good
looking?
