Sounds like The Diamond Head Game to me, hosted by Bob Eubanks, which
aired for 6 months on GSN. Very dreadful and uninspired game. Round 1 was
divided up into four segments, 8 contestants played, 2 at a
time. The first to get 2 points wins. Each question is worth 1 point. If
the player got the answer wrong, the opponent got a point, so it's
possible for the opponent to win without answering any questions. Jane
Nelson once did a hula infront of the contestants during a Q&A segment
FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON.

Round 2 has the surviving 4 contestants in a memory recall game. Bob
Eubanks read 12 related items, and the contestants tried to recall them
all. Whomever repeated an item, took too long, or mentioned an item on
the list was out. The last player got to go inside Diamond Head.

Diamond Head was a glass chamber with big fans running below, which made
the money inside fly. Some of the money was gift certificates or prizes.

Players had 30 seconds to grab bills and place them in the sack. They
couldn't grab any money stuck to the walls or floor, only the money in
the air. After time was up, Bob would pull money out, one bill at a time,
with a maximum of 10 bills. A la LMAD, Bob would sometimes stop pulling
bills out and offer a prize or another bag with a surprise in it.

Bob himself once said this game was a piece of crap, and for good reason.

If you're talking the 70s, then it was indeed Diamond Head...But if you
are thinking of something from the 80's, then the answer is Fantasy -- A
semi-game show hosted by Peter Marshall & Leslie Uggams. They too had a
money grabbing booth segment of the show in which you could get as much
as you could within a set time limit.

I believe MG/HS Hour replaced Fantasy in '83.

Sounds like either "The Diamond Head Game" or "Fantasy" -- both used that
gimmick. Bob Eubanks hosted the former in 1975; Peter Marshall and Leslie
Uggams ran the latter from 1982-83.

It could also be NBC's $100,000 "Shower of Money" promo that they used from
time to time in the '70s, I saw it used once on "Hollywood Squares'" eighth
anniversary episode (that would be '74, I think); but I'd put my money on
"Diamond Head".

That idea would later be spoofed on an episode of "The Golden Girls" where
Sophia, Rose, and the rest of that gang found themselves on a game show
entitled "Grab That Dough."

Money grabbing chambers
were used on "The Diamond Head Game" (hosted by Bob Eubanks and aired in syndie
1974--75), and "Fantasy" (hosted by Peter Marshall & Leslie Uggams and aired in
1982--1983).

Remember the GRAB THAT DOUGH episode on NBC's "The Golden Girls" hosted by Jim
MacKrell? Dorothy (Bea Arthur) grabbed several hundred dollar bills (I believe
it is somewhere between $600 to $1000) and traded it in for one of the 3 big
doors (kind of like LMAD). Her team got in return a lifetime supply of
something (cans of soup or whatever) while the other two doors contained luxury
prizes like cars or trips.

NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" had a comedy segment that involved the
money grabbing chamber. Conan would draw a home viewer name (probably someone
from NY) and a member in the studio audience, which happens to be the
masturbating bear. The bear is supposed to grab as much dough in 15 seconds for
the home viewer player but while the bills are still flying in the chamber the
bear is still masturbating and not one bill was grabbed from the bear causing
the home viewer to win nothing.
