Thanks for the link -- I'd never heard that silly rumor
before.
> Not to nitpick, but I think it was Church's Chicken.
I've never heard of Church's Chicken, (It must be a regional
chain.) but I did hear the KFC version of the claim. In fact,
it was among those to be debunked in the ABC News report which
is cited in my previous link.
The story has probably circulated in conjunction with several
different chicken restaurants. If you search the database at
http://www.snopes.com/info/search/search.htm , you'll find that
these corporate urban legends tend to go after numerous
targets. KFC has been linked to more than their fair share,
including a "genetically altered poultry" hoax and a KKK rumor
of their own.
This ranks up there with the claim quite a few years back that Kentucky
Fried Chicken contained an ingredient that would make black men sterile.

The box said "Requires Windows 95 or better"... so I bought a Macintosh!
Not to nitpick, but I think it was Church's Chicken. On the Snapple topic: This
was on a show that mentioned the K for Kosher on Snapple bottlesstood for
Klan, and that the Boston Tea Party image was really depicting Portuguese slave
ships. I didn't buy any of it. The story, that is, I throw down about three
Snapples a day now, thanks to that Twisted Cap contest! I bought 3 24-packs!
I've *gotta* win now!
<Mr. T>I pity a fool who brags about buying a lot of Snapple.<\Mr. T>

Somebody must have really had a bug up their ass about Snapple...there's
only THOUSANDS of major consumer products in this country with the same
damn Kosher symbol! How anybody could single that out (or hear this rumor
and buy into it, not having noticed the THOUSANDS of other products
sporting the K) is totally beyond me.

Felt like the Old West, but with lots of strip malls.
Get a life.

I remember this issue came up a few years ago. As I recall the controversy,
the explanation for something which raised eyebrows on the label was
addressed at the time by one of the original owners of Snapple, who I
believe said he was Jewish. He explained the meaning behind the symbol and
nothing was wrong. As I recall, he asked whether the audience really
believed a Jewish person would knowingly include advertising endorsing the
KKK?

"No way! Bogus!"
Sorry about that. There are no Circle K stores in my region of
the country, so I'm always reminded of the film "Bill & Ted's
Excellent Adventure", my only visual exposure to the chain.

According to the official company website, Circle K is a brand
of the Tosco Marketing Company: "Tosco Marketing Company is the
nation's largest operator of company-controlled convenience
stores and sells more than 4 billion gallons of retail
transportation fuels annually. Tosco markets well recognized
brands such as 76, BP and Exxon gasoline, Circle K convenience
stores and ProWash and Brown Bear car washes."
(With the exception of Exxon, I'm not familiar with any of those
chains.)
Kangaroo (also alien to me) is not listed, so I assume that the
stores in your area were sold or switched affiliation.
If Circle K locations are independently owned, the latter is a
strong possibility. There's a supermarket in my town that has
gone through four separate franchise contracts, (A&P - Foodtown -
IGA - Shop 'N' Bag) all under the same local ownership.
