OK. Onto "That 70's Greed".
We start with the 1st team, and this question:
How many times did characters say, "Hi Bob", during the total run of
"The Bob Newhart Show"? With the answer of 256, the team is:
Capt. Terrance Jones 250 (1st to ring in)
2nd : Linda Vanoff (250)
3rd: Carr D'Angeli (250)
4th: John Bronson (100)
5th: Robert Estimoss (sp?) (470)
For $25,000:
Which group stood trial for inciting a riot at the Democratic
cenvention?
Tallahassee Three
Newark Nine
Chicago Seven
Jackson Five
Chicago 5 is answered and accepted. It is right.
For $50,000:
What cereal is associated with "Hey, Mikey!"?
Cheerios
Life
Corn Flakes
Froot Loops
John remembers the ad, and knows it is Life. Terrance accepts the
eventual correct answer.
For $75,000:
According to Chevy Chase, what dictator is still dead?
Idi Amin
Francisco Franco
Augusto Pinochet
Ferdinand Marcos
Joseph Stalin
Carr recalls the SNL bit, and states that "Francisco Franco" is still
dead. Terrance accepts, and after a cheesy accent from Chuck, it
is verified.
For $100,000:
What phrase was coined by author Tom Wolfe to describe the 1970s?
The "Us" Decade
The "She" Decade
The "Free" Decade
The "Me" Decade
The "It" Decade
Linda likes the "It Decade", but Terrance is uncertain, so he makes
the change to the "Me Decade". WWTBAM viewers know the answer, and
they know Terrance is right.
So, we get the $200,000 question, which is "Best Pictures". The team
moves on, but first, we have the terminator making its appearance,
choosing Terrance. He calls out Linda.
"In 1970, what innovative furniture flooded the market and often
the user's bedroom?"
Terrance rings in, and is correct in his answer of waterbed.
Which four films from the 70s won the Best Picture Oscar?
Chinatown
The Deer Hunter
Network
Kramer vs. Kramer
The French Connection
Annie Hall
In order, the team picks Annie Hall, Kramer vs. Kramer, The Deer
Hunter and The French Connection.
Annie Hall, Deer Hunter and French Connection are correct. Now,
Terrance actually studied this, so he will hold the money, and
then return it to Chuck.
Is Kramer vs. Kramer a $200,000 answer?
THEY GOT IT!
The $500,000 topic is "#1 Songs". Terrance says that it is not his
forte, which pretty much guarantees that he will stop. The rest of
the team doesn't appear pleased. (Although considering he said it
wasn't his forte, he was obviously Terminator Bait in the next
round).
The new team will be set with this question:
On Fantasy Island, how many inches tall was Tattoo? 47 inches.
Lori Rafferson 49
Anthony Jenkins 50
Anne Harrington 38
Dug Kreck 38
Jim 36
For $25,000:
Complete this bestseller's title: "I'm OK..." what?
You're not
You're OK
You're my best friend
You're on my foot
It was one of Jim's mother's favourite book. "I'm OK. You're OK".
Answered, accepted, and correct!
For $50,000:
1975 saw the the deaths of Moe Howard and Larry Fine, two of the
original....
Marx Brothers
Three Stooges
New York Yankees
Keystone Kops
Dug knows it is the Stooges. Laurie readily accepts the answer. Of
course it is correct.
For $75,000:
Which phrase is associated with "The Smiley Face"?
"Have A Nice Day"
"Make love, Not war"
"Lookin' Good"
"Keep on Truckin'"
"Save The Whales"
Anne knows it. Have a nice day. Laurie accepts the answer, which
any fan of Mick Foley would know to be absolutely correct.
For $100,000:
Which woman's face adorned the 1979 silver dollar?
Martha Washington
Eleanor Roosevelt
Betsy Ross
Dolly Madison
Susan B. Anthony
The much-maligned Susan B. Anthony dollar is his answer. The captain
accepts, and they will continue on up the Tower of Greed.
But they will do so tomorrow at 9:00 EST.

Ok, it's understandable that there is a finite amount of knowledge out
there, especially knowledge that works well on game shows, but...
ABC should sue FOX for this blatent rip off. The same question, with
nearly the same wording appeared two weeks ago on WWTBAM (and cost
the guy his game, IIRC), and it's hard to say it's coincidence.
There's been plenty of other examples of copycats in this since, and
it's getting sick.

Will you people give it a rest? If Millionaire debuted 3 months after Greed,
you would call Millionaire the rip-off. Realize the Greed and Millionaire are
different because if it were a rip-off (like you say it is) it would be off the
air faster than you can say "Do you feel the need for Greed?"

Maybe, but I think you should refer to Valleycrest suing Dick Clark
Productions (the producers of each). This is your own opinion, though not
mine.

Maybe, but I still consider /Greed/ to be better than /Millionaire/ by a
hair-thin margin.
P.S.: Do you remember the "Great Lakes" incident on /WWtbaM?/?

Unless you know the taping date of the "That 70s Greed" shows, it's hard to
prove (it may've been taped *before* the "WWTBAM" show in question). And I
don't think Howard Kupferberg has his writing staff intently watching
"WWTBAM" with pen and paper ready to copy down every question--and since one
of his writers used to post here, maybe that writer can delurk to confirm
this suspicion.

My understanding was that this episode was taped just a week and a half
ago...I'll check and see if I can't find the exact date. But I do agree
that things like this are coincidence.

Actually FOX taped this episode before the Millionaire episode in
question aired. You're forgetting that Greed tapes its shows 2-4 weeks
in advance of their airing. The general rule is, FOX's Greed episodes
are always taped *before* millionaire, not after. Question repeats like
this one are purely coincidental.

Hi Michael and a.t.g-s,
Well, you should know that the 70s episodes of "Greed" were taped the afternoon
of February 25, 2000, so unless my fellow writers and I had a DeLorean time
machine to spring forward and watch that "Millionaire" episode, we wouldn't
have been able to "copy" that "Me Decade" question as you suggested. :-)
In all seriousness, we keep tabs of what questions "Millionaire" and "21" use
to make sure that we DON'T use any questions that they have. Because we tape
our episodes much further ahead of air than the other shows, there is that rare
occasion when our questions may be similar to theirs. However, we try to keep
this from happening as OFTEN as we can.
Geez, after all these years, I never thought that part of my job would entail
watching game shows! :-)
BTW, we (especially yours truly, an old-school a.t.g-ser) keep track of the
newsgroup posts, so we ARE reading all of your comments.
Thanks for all of your support over the past several months and keep watching
"Greed" on FOX!
