As I've said before, network daytime television is an endangered
species--NBC in particular because they haven't been competitive, let alone
number one, for about 25 years at least. Within the next few years, don't
be surprised if "Later Today" is all of their daytime lineup and the rest of
the time is going to the stations. The same thing will happen eventually to
CBS, as P&G, Pearson, Columbia TriStar and Bell-Phillip's contracts run out
and they decide to take their shows to syndication. Only the 100% in-house
ABC lineup may stay intact--but with fewer network spots and more local
spots as the stations pressure the network to give them more time for the
syndicated product they can make more money on.
