Pardon the off-topic title, but it may have something to do with the lack of
game shows on NBC daytime. (They are reviving TWENTY-ONE, but in primetime.)
The soap opera magazine SOAPS IN DEPTH has two editions, one for ABC and one
for CBS. They don't have one for NBC, despite DAYS OF OUR LIVES. NBC is
having trouble keeping the soaps they DO have on the air -- the rookie SUNSET
BEACH and veteran ANOTHER WORLD both died. (I hope tapes exist like they do
for DARK SHADOWS, currently seen on Sci-Fi; A Martinez is now on GENERAL
HOSPITAL and people who missed him on SANTA BARBARA should see him when he and
Eden were a Luke/Laura-type couple. But I digress...) In any case, NBC
daytime is in deep doodoo when daysoaps along with daygames are disappearing
like the dodo.

As I've said before, network daytime television is an endangered
species--NBC in particular because they haven't been competitive, let alone
number one, for about 25 years at least. Within the next few years, don't
be surprised if "Later Today" is all of their daytime lineup and the rest of
the time is going to the stations. The same thing will happen eventually to
CBS, as P&G, Pearson, Columbia TriStar and Bell-Phillip's contracts run out
and they decide to take their shows to syndication. Only the 100% in-house
ABC lineup may stay intact--but with fewer network spots and more local
spots as the stations pressure the network to give them more time for the
syndicated product they can make more money on.

That, and the lack of compensation that the nets are giving to affiliates
nowadays....

At the same time, one just hopes that a good syndie game comes out... that's
just a wish, tho'. ;)
