I know the basics of some of the Family Feud scoring systems over the
years, but I would like some help filling in the gaps.

When it premiered in 1976, it was 200 points to win the game and
SINGLE, SINGLE, DOUBLE, DOUBLE, TRIPLE? format

Then it shifted to 300 points to win the game with this some round
structure. Can someone tell me the month and year this happened?

Then, somewhere by 1982 or '83 it was SINGLE, SINGLE, SINGLE, DOUBLE,
TRIPLE. Does anyone know when this format was instituted? This format
had also been used on the nightime version. Was it this way for the
entire syndicated version?

When Ray came in, I believe this same format was retained, although I
am not positive.
Then, at some point it must have shifted to SINGLE, SINGLE, DOUBLE,
TRIPLE, TRIPLE, because those are the episodes we're seeing on GSN
right now. I believe they are from 1991. Does anyone know when the
switch occurred?

Then with Bullseye it was SINGLE, DOUBLE, TRIPLE and also when Richard
came back.
If there is someone out there, that could fill in a little bit of the
chronology, I would be much appreciative.
Thanks.

The 300 point scoring took effect sometime in 79.

I understand they experimented with a SINGLE, SINGLE, TRIPLE, TRIPLE
format for a short time.
On the Mama's Family ep, that's the scoring system they used.

In 84, when they switched to the 400 point system, it was FOUR SINGLE
rounds, a double, then a triple round.
>With a maximum of 6 rounds per show, a lot of editing had to be done
to fit in the entire game, which meant that Richard
had less time to do his usual joking around, which infuriated him.

I think they kept that scoring format until Family Feud challenge, in
which the scoring changed to single, double, triple, triple.

They changed to S-S-S-D-T at approximately the same time that Ray
started using the handheld microphone. It was spring of 1990, I think.

Family Feud Challenge had two at once, so to speak: the first half was
played S-S-D-T, and the second half S-D-T. This filled in the extra
segment, so after Fast Money they went to commercial and came back with
the second half.

Unlike the 1994 version, which had them come back from commercial only
for Richard Dawson to say "the so-and-so family has won this much,
they'll face the such-and-suches next" or whatever exactly he said, and
for Gene Wood to say something like "More Feud coming up"

I never saw a triple round on daytime Feud prior to the 1979 episodes.
That doesn't mean there never was one, I don't think they ever needed it.

Early in 1979, I believe.

Not for the entire syndicated version, but pretty close. In the
beginning, it followed the same format as the first few ABC years;
single, single, double, double. Then, it went single, single, single,
double. Then, single, single, single, double, triple. When they went to
the 400 point rule in 1984, there was an extra single round thrown in.

I know for sure that I saw a 200-point episode with 5 questions and the
fifth was also a double. It was during the weekend repeat run a year or so
ago, when they were still going to commercial after every round. I think
the triple concept was new to 300-point Feud.

They changed to a 300-point game during the first year in syndicated and was
added to the network version about a year or two later.
