Yep this really happened. Chip in his own flashback recalled how his mom was on The Joker's Wild and won five games in a row and a new car, but lost it all because she decided to fuck with Jack Barry. So she was disqualified and got all the prizes taken away. So he always wanted to be in showbiz to help support her.
