This doesn't surprise me at all....face it gang, MG, FF, Pyramid, and
WOF are they're most popular and well-known shows. TTD and TJW are
also popular, but mostly with an older audience. PYL and W! appeal to
the kids. And because GSN had to put at least 3 of their originals, on
there, Lingo, RR and FOF. But I digress- many people I know have seen
RR and W! and like it. As sad as it is, did any of us really think
that shows that mostly hardcore game show fans would remember, like
Bullseye, Now you see it would make it? (Hey, i did! I voted for both
of these shows.) I kind of expected this. Always remember- we
represent about 1% of game show watchers in this country.
But, I think we all expected their beloved Newlywed Game to make the cut.
And you a whiny little shit just like the 10 year olds. Now STFU!
The back button theory wouldn't work for me, I tried to get some of the other
rarely seen shit stuffed in the box, no can do
You on crack Ben? Hell they have pimped Wheel back to 2 damn showings a
weekend, when it used to be a 7 day a week show on GSN. When I first got gsn in
may 2001, TTD and TJW were on the schedule weekdays as wel.. Now those haven't
been shown in over a year.
MG,FF, and their originals are the gd backbone of their shitty network
FUCK GSN
And #2, I thought GSN wasn't releasing this shit til it actually hit the air on
thursday.LMFAO! They lied on that for sure.
What is the suprise? That they are total jerkoffs in the programming dept.
Already found that out a year ago.

(already do the first, Sears a ripoff anyways, and I can buy generic brand

Give me a freakin' break. GSN employees must be in the tape room sniffing the
zyleen head cleaner.
I doubt this was rigged...the simple fact of the matter is that non-gameshow
freaks are NOT going to vote for "Break the Bank", "Bullseye", "Now You See
It", etc. because they've probably never heard of those shows. The GSN
originals must all do pretty well in the ratings as they've all been
renewed, so it makes sense that the regular (non-gameshow fanatics) viewers
would vote for shows that they know and watch or remember and would like to
see again.
Despite my frustration with their decisions sometimes, I don't think GSN
conspires to ruin the lives of this group's members. :) It's

I differ from your opinion concerning what would make them the most money.
It may improve this quarter's bottom line, but by not taking opportunities
like this to evaluate unaired or rarely aired product, they lose the chance
to freshen their schedule, and run the risk of eroding their ratings (and
revenue) in the long run.
As an extension to this thought, maybe they will notice that The Newlywed
Game didn't make the top 12, losing out to shows that aren't on the
schedule. There's a reason for this, people in control.

Dang, you beat me to it.
Also, save for the Jack Barry Double Shot of Joker and Dough, won't all of
these shows air today? How is this special at all? Does anyone really care
which show got the most votes by (to steal someone else's image) a bunch of
twelve year olds with internets connections at their schools? I don't.
And to steal the VCR image, I'm glad I waon't have to set mine. I was

-Myron
That was a haiku!
A freaky little gameshow fan haiku.
-Myron
Mad props to anyone who gets the reference.
Most of the people responding to the poll probably aren't as
knowledgeable on game shows as the ATGS group. Given this, when they
viewed the choices on the web site, they picked things they knew.
(Just like people who couldn't cite one reason for their votes other
than "he's from the ___ party and so am I.") As has been pointed out
before, the average person roaming the mall today doesn't know who
Dorothy Kilgallen, Jim Lange, Clark Race, or John Daly are. Their
knowledge and attention span are limited to what the reporter on E! or
Barbara Walters tells them is important. This person surfed the list
for something familiar. Hence, you wind up with crap. The Museum of
Broadcasting would put on a decent parade of game shows. Leave the
choice to the average Joe or Josephine (not a true game show fan) and
the same old stuff will show up. It is analogous to why most people
don't mind the limited rotation most contemporary format radio
stations play.
One good thing - I can catch up on the B&WO shows I have on tape I
have not yet viewed.
Look at this all from a promotional aspect--aside from the 2-hour nightly
blocks, GSN only promotes its originals (with an exception or two).
Secondly, this is a "Favorites" marathon. While GSN did say favorites "of all
time", the constant word they were plugging was FAVORITE.
This means that everyone from the respected people in this newsgroup to the 10
or 12 year old kids with school internet connections picked what they liked.
Needless to say, we here were probably the only ones who picked up on the "of
all time" part.
Looking at the "winners" closely, it makes sense:
Family Feud--one of the network's top rated shows, has the Friday night block,
thus garners promotion
Friend of Foe--is a GSN original, so it gets an extreme amount of promotion.
I'm not a fan of it, but apparantly many others are.
Joker's Wild--seeing as it was off the air for the last year (and thensome), I
guess it was just a favorite of a lot of people, and legitimately deserved to
make it. I can't explain this one, and I shouldn't try, because many of us in
here like it.
Let's Make a Deal--hasn't been seen in a while, but when it first came to GSN,
they were promoting the hell out of this one, too (remember that marathon with
Jeffry Ross?) Plus it has the Tuesday night block.
Lingo--is a GSN original, gets lots of promotion, plus lots of people
(including many of us in here) like it.
70's Match Game--One of the top rated shows, has the Monday night block, thus
lots of promotion
Press Your Luck--mixed popularity in here, but very popular with 18-30 year
olds, because they remember the show growing up (and I happen to be in that
demographic). Lots of promotion upon its arrival.
Pyramid--upper echelon of ratings for GSN, has the Thursday night block, plus
the new one gives the classics shows a bit of rub (for better or worse)
Russian Roulette--see Lingo
Tic Tac Dough--see Joker's Wild
Whammy!--lots of promotion, GSN original. Many of us in here don't like it,
but evidently there are enough people who do that want to see it in this
marathon.
Wheel of Fortune--doesn't get a lot of promotion on GSN, but it is still
popular in weeknightly syndication for its 20th year.
As far as the argument for rigging goes...if it were truly rigged, we'd see
Twenty-One on here. And Jack Barry would be grinning from above.
But the fact that the Newlywed Game isn't on the list shows the list's
legitimacy.
Be glad, though, that TTD and TJW were on there. If GSN hadn't gotten rid of
The Price is Right, you know it would have made the list, if not topped it.
So, looking at it from a logical standpoint, the only selections that could
possibly be argued are The Joker's Wild, and Tic Tac Dough...and we don't want
to argue against them. I know I sure don't...
Okay, I'm done giving my dime on this issue.
Fearon Derry
No Harvey, you STFU and get the hell off our newsgroup. All I said
was it was kids with internet connection voting for W!. Moron.

I wonder if it was planned from the outset to have the top eight
classics plus the top four originals make up the dirty dozen. It
wouldn't be rigged; it would just be a set requirement that four of the
twelve have to be originals (you know, like it was a set requirement
that you had to be a woman to compete on Give-N-Take and Treasure Hunt).
That, or there are a hell of a lot of stupid people running around.

They did such an online survey for a November 1998 marathon when they still had

No way in hell for FoF and Whammy.
Besides, IMO, putting this on Yahoo News is a surfire way, in this list's

Not meaning to take anything away from those shows (Whammy, F-or-F, Roulette

Out of the hundreds of game shows made over the years, there's not a chance
in the world that ALL FOUR of their current offerings deserve this kind of
adoration.
Funny how the game shows not currently "owned" by GSN miraculously failed to

Now, in all seriousness, this IS possible, since GSN DOES have the entire

73-74 IS assumed)
Yeah I know they have that. The WOF NBC and the CBS TTD shows I was citing as

As to some of the what didn't make the cut:
Bullseye -- People, come on. This was =not= a classic show. It was an
attempt to tweak TJW so as to create something just different enough that it
might sell alongside the mid-80s B&E package. It wasn't, say, "Jackpot!".
Hell, it wasn't even "Treasure Hunt". It was just another disposable clone
from the Dan and Jack assembly line.
Newlywed Game -- I don't quite know what to say about this. On one hand, NG
is said to be the highest-rated classic on the GSN sked. OTOH, it didn't
manage to finish ahead of shows that haven't run daily on the network since
shortly after the Dark Period. Could be that my old theory about how NG and
other related shows don't actually attract a "game show audience" is
correct; that viewers come in, watch the show, and graze onward. Putting the
show on may send the regular audience away, not to return for several hours.
Sure would like to see the numbers on shows airing with an NG lead-in as
opposed to their numbers when airing =without= NG preceding.
CHsQ -- Seems that the bloom is off this Rose. Could be that a comedy game
wears out faster than a quiz - strategy contest does on repeated viewings
(especially when we're looking at three or four airings over six months).
Could also be that nobody's watching this, though.... very disturbing.
>Bullseye -- People, come on. This was =not= a classic show.
Yes, it was! It had a great set and one of the best themes in game show
history; how can it not be a classic show?
It did have C-list celebs for the second half of year two, but other than that,
it's one of the all time best in ATGS circle.
Yet lasted all of two years, converted to a celebrity format and died a rather
quick death once that occured.
It's not a classic in the same way Whew! is not a classic. But Whew! is a far
superior show that could have become a classic if it stuck around a few more
years.

Harvey doesn't buy glad trash bags-he buys grumpy.
That doesn't make a show "classic," that just makes it a show you
really like. "Hit Man" had a great set and theme too but it damn sure
isn't classic.

Well, Gene, he seems to be so full of it that I said that he ATE his garbage.
