<Dean sits at a desk upstage on the right side, three players sit upstage on
the left side with a scoreboard behind them, and a black leather chair is
placed at center stage facing Dean>
Dean: Good evening. I'm Dean Scungio, and welcome to 'Net U.S. Mastermind.
This is Game 6 of eight qualifying games in our Mastermind Tournament. The
eight winners and a Wild Card player will face off at a later date for a
chance to win up to $100,000 and be crowned as the "Ultimate Mastermind".
<applause>
We have three players here tonight. <shot of players> One of them will
advance in the tournament and win $5,000, possibly $10,000 at the end of the
show. Let's not waste any more time. Bring up our first player.

<Mike gets up and walks to the leather chair>
<applause>
<Mike sits down>
Dean: Welcome to the show. Name?
Mike: Mike McComb.
Dean: Hometown?
Mike: Dearborn, Michigan.
Dean: Specialty Subject?
Mike: "The Simpsons".
Dean: A popular Subject around here. I should mention to our audience that
the player who wins this game gets the chance to double his prize money at
the end of the show by answering a question in his Specialty Subject.
Again, Mike, welcome to the show. I'm sure you know the rules, but for the
people out there who don't know them, here's how the show works. In the
first round, I'll ask Mike twenty questions in four categories with five
questions in each. A correct answer is worth one point and sweeping all
five questions in a category is worth a bonus point. If Mike does not know
an answer, he can guess or pass. The number of passes will be used to break
any tie scores. I'll repeat this with the other two players. The two high
scorers will move on to the second round.
Now, Mike, before I tell you what your categories are, I want to mention to
you and the other players that I went to a poker game last night, and I got
"inspired", if you will. I also got rich, but that's another story.
<laughter>
Mike, your categories in the first round are: "Jacks", that is, people named
Jack, "Queen", the rock group, "Kings", famous kings in history, and
"'A'ces", "A" in quotes. That means all the answers in that category start
with the letter A.
Are you ready?
Mike: I'm ready. ^_^

Dean: Specialty Subject?

Dean: I hope you're not going to hit me with a piledriver if you lose,
Antonio. That wouldn't be pretty. <laughter> You've seen how it works.
I'll ask twenty questions, and you'll get a point for a right answer. Right
now, you're tied for second place. <light laughter>
Here are your categories: "3 of a Kind", I'll give you three items, and
you'll have to tell me what they have in common. In "Straight", I'll give
you a list of items, and you'll have to put them in the order I ask.
There's "Royal Flush". This is a little different because it's not about
royalty, but the word "King" or "Queen" will appear in each answer.
Finally, there's "Wild Card", which is a category about anything.
Get comfortable. Are you all set?

Dean: Right. (7)
<buzz>
<lights up>
Dean: That's it. Well, Antonio, you only got seven correct answers, and you
didn't sweep any categories, so you won't be getting any bonus points. I
want to explain the ruling on the very first question, which you got wrong.
Simply, you gave me more information than what I was looking for and that
cost you. Tommy, Chuckie and Phil are babies on "Rugrats". If you had said
they were *characters* from "Rugrats", I would've taken it, but you said
they were *fathers*, and that's wrong. Also, in the "3 of a Kind" category,
I asked what elevators, trains and General Motors had in common. The
problem is that "General Motors" refers to the company, not any particular
vehicle, so you can't "ride on or in" General Motors. So after Round 1, you
have 7 points, Antonio.
