Rest in peace, Arlene. We will miss you.

Undoubtedly, you think of the classic G-T panel shows, and how they were
described: "funny", "bright", "witty", "sophisticated", "smart"...you'd use
the
same adjectives to describe Arlene.
She'll be missed.

Another legend leaves us. It would be my hope that GSN, and it seems more
likely they'd mention this with Cronin's penchant for classic TV, would at
least mention Arlene Francis' death during their next Sunday Night classic WML
showing, or if not do a two-show tribute to her.
I'm sorry to see her go, but I'm sure she'll be warmly received when she enters
and signs in please in heaven.
Well, we still have the reruns. Those old What's My Line shows are a
great sourvineer of mid-20th century New York at its peak: theater,
arts, high society, and access to the new medium of television.
Yes she was, with Steve ALlen's death seven months ago.
I was thinking a
last-minute change for tomorrow night and making GSSN a WML marathon -- both
color and B&W.
A Sunday night two-fer is the least they should do.
I'm not
sure, but I assume we've already lost Kitty Carlisle?
Kitty's very much alive. She appeared on an episode of the revival of To Tell
the Truth This Fall. This made her the first person to appear on the same game
show in six different decades.
My thoughts and prayers are with the surviving family of Mrs. Francis.
Kitty is still with us, she made a stop on the current To Tell the Truth last fall,
so she is very much alive :-)

I never heard of that show. Is that TTTTTF for short?

Goodnight, Arlene. Thanks for everything...

This little exhibition proved one thing to me about both Arlene and Kitty...
even when you think they'd been dragged down totally to Howard Stern's
level, they still exhibited that high ideal of class and sophistication.

This little exhibition proved that they had a sense of humor and that they
weren't just a couple of self-serious automata.

I personally would like to see some Blyden WML's with her, her interactions
with Larry and her introductions to him were priceless.

Arlene Francis [1907-2001] preceded Dorothy Kilgallen [1913-65], John
Charles Daly [1914-91], Mark Goodson [1915-92], Bill Todman [1918-79], Larry
Blyden [1925-75] and Wally Bruner [1935-91], into this world, and left it
after all of the above did.

I thought about what GSN would do as well...then I heard Hank Ketcham
also died.
My suggestion: find the color "bronzing baby shoes" episode of WML,
and follow it with the TTTT shown not too long ago with Hank Ketcham
at the end (I think it was the one with the "three Santas", two of
which were Rip Taylor and Christopher "Mr. Belvedere" Hewett).

Was it ever revealed - on the episode or otherwise - whether the
"bronzing baby shoes" bit was set up in advance?
I thought Bruner was 1931-1997.
And it was also mentioned that she did TTTT last year. Does anyone know when
that week of eps. will rerun in single run markets?

And director Franklin Heller who passed away within the last few years.
It's interesting how every major figure associated with WML is now gone,
whereas by contrast all of the four major female regulars of IGAS in the 50s
and 60s are still with us, as is a good many TTTT regulars of the 50s and 60s.

Kind of like Bewitched/Jeannie and Munsters/Addams Family ... All the
adult regulars of Bewitched are gone while most of the Jeannie cast are
still with us, and exeryone except John Astin are dead in the "Addams"
cast, while only Fred Gwynne is the only "Munster" to have left us.
That's freaky and spooky and altogether ooky.
I know I'm getting a bit OT here, but the actors who played Pugsley and
Wednesday are dead too?
Mike Trozzo (yes, THAT Mike Trozzo)
I hope that when I get to heaven someday, I will get to see Arlene, Dorothy,
Bennett, and Steve Allen and to personally thank them for the laughter, smiles,
and happiness they brought me while watching them in action.
Arlene....I am glad you and Martin are together again, but you will be terribly
missed by all the rest of us......

It already did, a coupla weeks ago. :-(
Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")
I thought Faye Emerson had passed on, or was she part of the IGAS fab four
females? I know Jayne, Bess and Betsy are still with us.

Imogene Coca died this past week as well. But I think GSN will only honor
Francis' death in a GS tribute. I can't recall if Coca did any game shows or
not.

Off topic, but what the heck.
According to this web site, Wednesday (Lisa Loring) is still around:
http://www.biography.com/cgi-bin/frameit.cgi?p=http%3A//www.biography.com/
magazine/biomag/wednesday.html
According to imdb.com, Ken Weatherwax (Pugsley) and Felix Silla (Cousin Itt)
are alive, as well as John Astin.
And to be fair, Blossom Rock would have been 106 this year, Jackie Coogan 87.
The only two cast members who died "ahead of their time" were Ted Cassidy (died
during open heart surgery at age 46) and Carolyn Jones (cancer, age 54).
On the other hand, Bewitched's death toll is fairly lengthy (of course,
Bewitched had a lot more semi-regulars), considering the two shows debuted the
same year.
Elizabeth Montgomery (age 62, colorectal cancer)
Dick York (63, emphysema)
Dick Sargent (64, prostate cancer)
Agnes Moorhead (73, cancer)
David White (74, heart attack)
Mabel Albertson (81, Alzheimer's)
Maurice Evans (87, cancer)
Sandra Gould (82, stroke)
Marion Lorne (80, heart attack)
Paul Lynde (55, cardiac arrest due to "extreme substance abuse")
Alice Pearce (48, cancer)
Roy Roberts (75, heart attack)
Robert F. Simon (83, heart attack)
George Tobias (78, cancer)
Irene Vernon (76, heart attack)
Still alive: Bernard Fox, Erin Murphy, Alice Ghostley, the Lawrence Brothers,
Kasey Rogers.

According to this link, Faye died March 9, 1993:

However, IMDB.com shows her date of death as 3/9/1983.

>Rest in peace, Arlene. I can only think of one word, writ large: CLASS.
Amen.
She and Arlene are/were the last of a great breed of women...class above all
and in all situations. They had fun and were not above being kidded. I
could see them on Stern and not bat an eyelash about the scene.
The only other woman I know like that is Katherine Graham of the washington
post.
RIP Arlene...and watch the fingers in the eyes.

What was it called before?
The unbroadcast pilot (hosted by Mike Wallace) **and** the first aired
show (hosted by Bud Collyer) were both titled "Nothing but the Truth".
Either the first aired show didn't survive (which seems unlikely), or
GSN hasn't got the rights to air it, as it's never been shown outside of
its original airdate.
GSN's broadcast cycle began with the **second** Collyer show, the first
one that was sporting the new title of "To Tell the Truth".
