WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?
Thursday, March 23, 2000

PREVIOUSLY ON MILLIONAIRE:

Tracey Tariska's a wonderful teacher - but sadly, she doesn't teach English
literature… which leaves here with a hefty sum of $32,000.

Erik Mooney's hero, Jeff Fisher, is wary of a real names question, wavering
between Vanilla Ice and Queen Latifah. Hint: they weren't asking for Robert
Van Winkle's stage name. But, Jeff leaves with $4000, the first contestant to
leave with more than $1000 but less than $16,000.

And now, John Carpenter's hero, Matt Murray, has nonchalantly made his way to
$64,000, making the show look bad in the process, much to the delight of Alex
"I'm smarter than you but I don't need to go to Millionaire to prove it"
Trebek. (Hey Trebek? Remember High Rollers? Know your role and shut your
mouth, jabroni…) Can Matt knock out four more questions? It's all next on…

WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?

For $125,000:
Which US president was also Speaker of the US House of Representatives?
A. Ford B. Wilson C. L. Johnson D. Polk

He remembers the whole Spiro Agnew - Gerald Ford - Richard Nixon ordeal from
the 1970s… does he feel sure about this?

Will he risk his LifeLines and half the money?

Hmmm. We shall go 50/50: A. Ford D. Polk

Now will he risk the PAF and half the money on one of these answers?

Looks like he won't risk the PAF - he will use it now to call Dean, his
father-in-law. He guesses Ford, an 80% certainty.

He's at step 11, with $64,000. Will he be able to make another step?

He immediately says A as his final answer.

And…

John Carpenter is shaking his head. It's B.

He still has $32,000.

And so, we keep going with another FASTEST FINGER FIRST:
Novels, published, EARLIEST first:
A. Perfect Storm
B. Satanic Verses
C. Timeline
D. Celestine Prophecy

Correct answer: B-D-A-C
Another one of those questions that freaks and geeks would know, because only
one got it right… Joe Trela, 5.22 seconds!

Oh my GOD! Rocky Horror is on WGN (national) tonight!

It's Joe Trela from Gilroy, California. He's been reading since he was age 2.

For $100:
Fill in this fable blank: "Don't count your _____s before they're hatched?"
Chickens for $100.

For $200:
What adjective best describes a type of reaction that is automatic and
unthinking?
"Knee-jerk" for $200.

For $300: What describes the extrasensory ability to communicate from one mind
to another?
Telepathy for $300.

For $500: What culinary staple traditionally comes in two species: arabica and
robusta?
Coffee beans for $500.

For $1000: What company uses a "dog" named Sock Puppet in its current ad
campaign?
Pets.com locks in $1000. I've never seen their ads, though.

For $2000:
What is that squiggly that is places over the "n" in the Spanish language?
It's called a tilde and he has TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS~!.

For $4000: Who voiced Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies?
Tim Allen for $4000.

For $8000: Fill in the blank in this Shakespearean line:
"The first thing we do, let's kill all the ______"?
Lawyers for $8000, even in Shakespeare's time.

For $16,000:
Ernest Hemingway's novel "Death in the Afternoon" concerns what sport?
A. Mountain climbing B. Deep-sea fishing C. Boxing D. Bullfighting

Let's ATA on a question that most certainly not common knowledge:
11-17-6-66

He'll go with the audience…

… and he's right for $16,000.

To lock in $32,000:
What baseball player has played in the most number of World Series games?
A. Reggie Jackson B. Yogi Berra C. Mickey Mantle D. Pee Wee Reese

The PAF is his brother Nate. He has a guess for Reggie Jackson. Which one is
the Yankee?

The 50/50 leaves: A. Reggie Jackson B. Yogi Berra

Will he freeze it at $16,000? Will he risk $15,000 on an answer?

Let's… Let's… Let's…

Let's risk $15,000 on Yogi Berra.

He **HAD** $16,000…

He could have quit with that money.

But by going against his brother…

He now has…

THIRTY-TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!

Can Barbara Walters make Ricky Martin cry? Find out Sunday night on ABC!

Joe's a Giants fan, and he recreated their winning moment from 1989.

And now, with no LifeLines remaining, this question is a free shot for
$64,000:
How many people are depicted in Leonardo Da Vinci's "Last Supper"?
A. 10 B. 12 C. 13 D. 15

13 is the final answer…

… and he has SIXTY-FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS!

For $125,000: Which was NEVER a colony of Portugal?
A. Thailand B. Brazil C. East Timor D. Angola

By POE, he says A… and wins ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!

13 Club Time!

-40 degrees Celsius converts to what temperature Farenheit?
A. 0 B. -22 C. -40 D. -58

He does the math and says -40… AND…

HE'S IN THE THIRTEEN CLUB!

As explained by my C++ teacher numerous times in class…

F = 1.8C + 32
F = 1.8(-40) + 32
F = -72 + 32
F = -40

He's in the 13 Club… Can he make it into the 14 Club?

Here it is for $500,000:
In the movie "The Exorcist" what spirit does young Regan talk to through a
Ouija board?
A. Zool B. Azazel C. Damien D. Captain Howdy

He saw the movie. He knows the real name is Beezelbub, but he remembers they
called him Captain Howdy.

And…

That's the answer…

And…

Looks like he's sure…

That "Captain Howdy" answer seemed so much like a throwaway "It can't be
wrong" answer…

And because of that…

HE'S IN THE FOURTEEN CLUB!

And now… what the world is waiting for.

Joe Trela has NO LifeLines left. That hasn't stopped him from answering the
last 4 questions correctly.

For the 8th time anywhere, tell me this for $1,000,000:

What insect shorted out an early supercomputer and inspired the term "computer
bug"?

A. Moth B. Roach C. Fly D. Japanese beetle

I see a lot of sweating going on here.

He's sweating it out.

Most certainly I've seen a lot of twitching here.

FFF: Countries, US-EASTWARD:
A. Saudi Arabia B. Switzerland C. Spain D. South Africa

The official correct answer is: C-B-D-A
Winner/Time: Jason Stirnaman, 5.20 seconds!

Jason is from south Georgia, and only 19 years old!

For $100:
Fill in this blank: "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the _____"
Kitchen for $100.

For $200: Which is the term for a piece of paper acknowledging a debt?
IOU for $200.

For $300: What WB character frequently hunted for "wabbits"?
Elmer Fudd for $300.

For $500: What biblical character got that coat of many colors?
Joseph for $500 after ATA (85%).

**AH-WHOOOOOO!**

Jason Stirnaman will be coming back on TUESDAY night to see if he can lock in
$1000.

A programming note: Sunday's episode will NOT happen, because of the Oscars.
Because of that, we'll do a SPECIAL episode TOMORROW night with questions all
about movies. Start your Oscar weekend the right way with Millionaire?,
tomorrow night at 8pm, 7pm Central.

And again, to Alex Trebek, whereever you are, if you saw the show tonight, or
even if you didn't see tonight's show, he should stick to making pancakes.

His real name was Pazuzu, and I believe that's what Joe said. By the way, the
name "Pazuzu" was not mentioned in the first film, but in the sequel "Exorcist
II: The Heretic."

show every fricking time it's on so that people like you can read it and
nitpick every little point??

What's more, from what I know, it's been called FFF in Britain, just not
here... I consider it to be more correct than FF, so quit your damned

Surprised either one of them didn't mention the puppet's recent

At this point, I knew it was Berra, since Jackson was in there for some
lean years.

Was in a pub quiz I once took at the Mad Dog in the Fog, which, for
once, had the show on -- as we would find out, at a most opportune time.

Didn't need the math. -40 is the only temp. where Celsius = Fahrenheit.

Yep. More help. I probably would not have won a million with this
set. A quarter mil, probably. But not a mil, unless I saved a PAF for
the quizmaster of the Mad Dog pub quizzes for this one.
