How wuz Who Wants To Be A Millionaire played? Did Regis Philbin walk up to
random people on the street and ask them if they wanted to be millionaires?
Dat wud be funi.

SCS Millionaire is NEW! NEW! NEW!

Did you all forget about me in the month or so since my last recap? I hope
I'm still not out of fresh material.

Last Time:

April Campbell was the only correct fastest finger contest. She got up to
$2000.

Tonight she's wearing a charming white blazer with a dark jacket. She's a
lawyer who recently passed the bar exam. I don't care to hear her story
about it. Just like none of you care that I recently took my GRE and scored
620V/800A/800Q. So we'll just Fastforward by both boring stories.

April has used one lifeline, PAF. She's going for $4000. LET'S PLAY!

$4000: The game "Pokemon" is called what in Japan?
A: Poker Demons B: Pocket Monster C: Slowpoke Men D: Poke me, mon

I can't think of a way to make a joke about gay Jamaicans without being
really tasteless.

She thinks the answer is B. Final.

She's correct.

$8000: Mammoth Cave National Park is located in what U.S. state?
A: Montana B: New Mexico C: Kentucky D: We Meant To Vote Gore.

She doesn't think it was Florida. She'd like to use 50:50. It takes away
Florida and Montana. Her inital reaction was New Mexico, and it's still
there. She'll make that her fnal answer.

The truth is Kentucky. Her consequence is losing $3,000 and going home.

AND THEY ARE:

Joe Morasso, Detroit, MI
Diane Becker, Houston, TX
Kyong Halvorson, Minneapolis, MN
Mary Burke, Flagstaff, AZ
Peter Nason, Tampa, FL
Araceli Kiff, Raymond, WA
Maria Gilmer, Roanoke, VA. Jimmy Snuka loves you, too!
Brian Wolf, Reseda, CA. He's pumped!
Jennifer Stoner, Towson, MD
Lora David, Plymouth, MI

Why is Who Wants To Be A Millionaire biased against the Northeast? Do they
prefer to pay higher travel costs?

FFF: Put the following movies in order of their first theatrical release,
starting with the most recent.
A: A River Runs Through It B: Chicken Run
C: Midnight Run D: The Cannonball Run
E: Stripes (Da Do Run Run Run Da Do Run Run)

BACD is the answer given by six of ten. Our winner, by only .05 seconds, is
Jennifer Stoner. Our hard luck loser, with the second place time of 5.70, is
Lora David.

Jennifer will play when we come back!

Coming to ABC: The World Stunt Awards. I hope Barenaked Ladies don't win,
because their Stunt was hugely overrated!

Coming next week to VH1: The 100 Best Top 100 Lists Of All Time!

Jennifer is accompanied by her younger brother Jimmy. Jennifer is a Product
Manager for a Benefits Company. She makes sure that your benefits package is
as confusing as possible. I would have guessed she's Rosie O'Donnell's body
double. She's writing a book right now. She's started and not finished a few
already. Hey, I just started writing a novel myself! Hopefully I'll finish
it.

She knows the rules and lifelines.

$100: According to a common phrase, if you are in a bad situation, you are
"over a" what?
A: Barrel.

$200: If you are "stepping on the gas," what car part are you actually
stepping on?
A: Accelerator.

$300: A napsack is a bag designed to carry things on what part of the body?
A: Back.

$500: In which of these animals would you find a swim bladder?
A: Fish B: Horse C: Bird D: Elephant

She's going for four straight A's.

She's right!

LM: In a game of tetherball, what is the ball tethered to?
A: Net B: Rock C: Pole D: Paddle

Pole! F5S!

$2000: What currently-circulated U.S. coin shows a president on the front
and his memorial on the back?
A: Quarter B: Dime C: Nickel D: Penny

She doesn't know this off the top of her head. Lots of presidents have
memorials. She's going to ask the audience. Penny wins the vote with an
embarrassing, pathetic 50% Score. Quarter and Nickel tie with 21%. She'll
agree with the audience. They're right!

$4000: What religious group is best known for putting Bibles in hotel rooms?
A: Baha'i B: Jehovah's Witnesses C: Salvation Army D: Gideons

Gideons.

$8000: Which of the following is a baked noodle pudding?
A: Fricassee B: Ragout C: Kugel D: Goulash

Kugel.

$16000: The video for what 1980's song features a young woman who enters a
black-and-white comic book world?
A: Take On Me B: Money For Nothing C: Karma Chameleon D: Express
Yourself

Her forte is 80's music. She definitely remembers one of the greatest videos
of all time, Take On Me, by A-ha.

BM: Which of the following presidential candidates lost two consecutive
presidential elections?
A: Walter Mondale B: Horace Greeley C: Britney Spears' Biggest Fan
D: Adlai Stephenson

She's going to use 50:50. I will be shocked beyond belief if it doesn't take
away Mondale and Dole. It takes away Mondale and Greeley. I am shocked
beyond belief. She works backwards from Bush vs. Gore. Before that it was
Clinton vs. Dole. Before that was Clinton vs. Bush. Before that was Bush vs.
someone she can't remember.

How can you forget about Dukakis?!?! The entire state of Massachusetts
wishes it could.

It must be Stephenson.

It was!

Commercial break!

Tobacco odors can be a devil to get rid of. Unless you're smart and don't
allow the cancer sticks in your house in the first place.

They're running a special edition of Millionaire for Father's Day. Hey,
look, it's Peter and Abby Abide! I wonder if he's still pissed off at me.

Jennifer is known at work for her wacky, vivid dreams. She has a recurring
dream about her teeth falling out. She's read that means she's worried about
money. Interpreting dreams is only slightly less stupid that Feng Shui.

$64000: In the 1994 movie "Pulp Fiction," Uma Thurman and John Travolta do
what dance at the theme restaurant?
A: Hustle B: Twist C: Tango D: Mambo

She's seen the movie. It was The Twist!

$125000: The island of Zanzibar is part of what country?
A: Tanzania B: Morocco C: Kenya D: Somalia

She is not sure. She's going to phone Joe, a geography buff. He's pretty
darn sure of Tanzania. Final answer.

Joe got it right!

$250000: The noted 19th-century English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote
many of his works while working as what?
A: Scientist B: Priest C: Coal Miner D: Soldier

She has no idea. She's going to walk with her $125,000. The correct answer
was Priest.

Nine people are itching for the Hot Seat.

FFF: Put these major world cities in geographic order, starting in the
Atlantic Ocean and going east.
A: Munich B: Shanghai
C: Belfast D: Istanbul (was Constantinople)

CADB is correct. Two-thirds of the nine got it correct, including Mary Burke
is 6.41. Three others were also under seven sconds.

Dan, her husband of 11 years, is in the relationship chair. She stays at
home, but Regis says she does "a variety of things." She does cross stitch,
plays computer games, and can milk a goat. Regis almost veers into the
bestiality angle, but smartly retreats before saying anything I could take
out of context.

$100: A graduate or former student of a university is called what?
A: Alumnus

$200: At which of these places would you most likely find a working
lifeguard?
C: Swimming pool, not E: The set of Baywatch, which has sadly been
cancelled.

$300: A centenarian is a person who has lived at least how many years?
Choice C is 100. Roman numeral C is also 100. C is also for Cookie. 100 is
also the correct answer, and that's good enough for me.

$500: Which of the following sports are you most likely playing if you are
using a Louisville Slugger?
B is for Baseball.

LM: Political party contributions not regulated by federal election laws are
nicknamed what?
A: Smart money B: Fast money C: Soft money D: Hard money

Soft money. F5S!

Commercial time.

Paul Reubens is the host of You Don't Know Jack! I hope the show is as funny
as the pun implied by that fact.

This is Mary's first time in New York City. It's very different from
Flagstaff.

$2000: In the 1970's TV series "Adam-12," what is Adam-12?
A: Police precinct B: Detective squad C: Emergency code D: Patrol
car.

She thinks it's patrol car. Final answer.

Correct!

$4000: American settlers in the 18th century used the Cumberland Gap to
cross what U.S. mountain range?
A: Sierra Nevadas B: Rockies C: Appalachians D: Ozarks

That was C.

$8000: On April 9, 2001, Kevin Costner and Fidel Castro saw and discussed
what movie together?
A: JFK B: Field of Dreams C: For Love of the Game D: Thirteen Days

None of these are animated, which puts this question out of her realm of
knowledge. She's seen A and B. Thirteen days is her final answer.

Correct.

$16000: What celebritity wrote a series of children's books about a
helicopter named Budgie?
A: Ricki Lake B: Sarah Ferguson C: Richard Simmons D: Rosie
O'Donnell

Fergie.

BM: Which of these explorers was employed by the Dutch East India Company?
A: Henry Hudson B: Meriwether Lewis C: Jacques Cartier D: Ferdinand
Magellan

She's not 100% sure. She'll poll the audience. Hudson is your winner,
51-12-11-26.
She'll agree with the audeince.

They're 2-for-2 tonight!

$64000: What music legend is an ordained minister of the Full Gospel
Tabernacle Church in Memphis?
A: James Brown B: Al Green C: Ray Charles D: Jerry Lee Lewis

She believes it's Al Green.

Al Green turns yellow.

Al Green turns green!

Commercials!

Ask your doctor if a free sample of Viagra is right for you. I would think
that if a free sample of Viagra is right for you, you don't need to ask your
doctor to know it.

$125000: Someone who is nictitating is doing what?
A: Burping B: Eating C: Winking D: Snoring

She quickly gets winking.

$250000: The ancient measurement called a cubit was determined by what
length?
A: Man's thumb B: 3 paces C: Height of a man D: Elbow to tip of
middle finger.

She deliberates over who to call. She chooses Chuck, her husband's boss.
Chuck is 96% sure that it's choice D. She was leaning toward D as well.

Chuck nailed it! She's got a quarter of a million dollars!

She'd like to buy a house. The kids want to go to Disneyland. All those
things are possible if she doesn't answer incorrectly.

$500000: In the 18th century Gainsborough painting "The Blue Boy," what is
the boy holding in his hand?
A: Pheasant B: Lute C: Hat D: Sword E: <Censored>

50:50 leaves Lute and Hat. She thinks she knows, but she's not sure. She can
picture the painting, but it's a lot of money to risk. She's about 60% sure
of her answer. Regis finally coaxes her to say she's leaning toward Hat.

$32,000 is still a lot of money, so she'll go with Hat.

She's risking $218,000 on this.

Final answer.

The

correct

answer

is

HAT!

She'll take a look at Question 15 after these commercials.

These commercials.

Regis tells Dan he married well. He's not surprised that she's doing so
well. If she misses this question, she'll lose more money than any other
game show contestant in history. If she gets it correct she'll be the first
woman Millionaire in game show history.

$1M: Famous pediatrician and author Dr. Benjamin Spock won an olympic gold
medal in what sport?
A: Swimming B: Rowing C: Fencing D: Sailing

She has a hunch, but she's not going to risk it. She's walking. Her hunch
was rowing, which would have won her one million dollars.

There's just enough time for one last FFF.

FFF: Put these TV series in the order they first debuted, starting with the
earliest.
A: What About Joan B: Roseanne
C: Kate and Allie D: Veronica's Closet

CBDA is correct. Kyong Halvorson makes it a clean sweep for the women today,
with a time of 6.02 seconds. Just like last time, three others were also
under seven seconds.

Not a lot of time left, LET'S PLAY!

$100: Spinning in a circle would most likely make someone what?
C: Dizzy

$200: Someone who is clumsy is said to have "two" what?
B: Left feet.

$300: A lapel would most likely be found on what article of clothing?
B: Sport coat

AH-WHOOOOOOOOOOO!

See you next week.

Thanks for the recap.

Are those GRE scores particularly good? It took me seven years to get
my Bachelor's, so graduate school is out of my league.

Of course, for the first four questions, choice D is usually an obviously
wrong one, so the odds become 1/81, or 1.2%

Which is an absurdly wrong choice. Thriller is the longest video ever made,
and at the time it was by far the most expensive video ever made, but as a
video it sucks, for at least four reasons I can think of right off the top
of my head. The first reason is that there are not one, but two Dusty
Finishes. The second reason is that they never explain how Michael Jackson
suddenly turns into a zombie. The third reason is that they split the song
in two. The fourth reason is dancing zombies. Come on! I must have been only
fifteen years old when that video debuted, and even then I knew how utterly
stupid it was to have zombies barely able to walk one second, and the next
second they break out into a broadway dance number. The only thing stupider
than Thriller was Beat It, in which Michael is able to stop a gang war by
getting them to spontaneously break out into a broadway dance number. But I
give Beat It a reprieve from the title of Worst Video Ever, since it made
Eat It possible, which is the Funniest Video Ever.

Now wait a minute. I didn't say "fail to win," I said "lose". If my memory
serves me, Dan's share of the prize money was only $200,000, since Curtis
and whats-her-name's shares were each $400,000. So he only "lost" $200,000
by not stopping. He didn't lose $2.2 million any more than I lose $50
million every time I fail to win Powerball. I only lose the $2 I risked.

$468,000 is more money than $200,000, isn't it?

I am RIGHT AGAIN. When the word "Millionaire" is capitalized, it refers to
someone who correctly answers Question 15 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
If I had not capitalized "millionaire" I would have been wrong. Tina is the
U.S.'s first female Survivor, but not the first Millionaire. She's not even
a millionaire, due to taxes on her winnings.

Maybe my use of the phrase "game show history" confused the issue.

Besides, some of us don't consider Survivor a game show anyway!

Kyong at the end there was pretty cute! Now, she's back on Tuesday,
right? Millionaire seems to be doing their best to confuse us. What, if
anything, are they airing Sunday?

..even with that squirrelly definition of "Millionaire."

In November 2000, Judith Keppel was asked 15 questions by Chris Tarrant
n "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire." Her 15th question was "Which king
was married to Eleanor of Aquitaine?" She answered it correctly and won
one million pounds.
