ok we've had game shows in movies, game shows in tv programs, games shows in
cartoons, how about game shows in song lyrics? here are some lines from the
current Barenaked Ladies single "It's All Been Done" off the album STUNT:

Alone and bored on a thirtieth-century night
Will I see you on The Price Is Right
Will I cry? Will I smile
As you run down the aisle?

can you think of any other song lyrics with game show references?

'I Lost On Jeopardy" by "Weird Al Yankovic. It was a parodiy of Greg
Kihn's "Jepardy".

There was some rap song I heard, and I guess TPIR and Let's Make a Deal were
mentioned. I don't know the whole song, but it goes like this:

Well, The Price Is Right,
so Let's Make A Deal, see?

Jonathan Allen, hoping in Barenaked Ladies' next CD, Stone Cold Steve Austin,
"Dawson's Creek", and/or "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would be mentioned in their
songs

Oh, that's easy, Godley & Creme's "Sale of the Century"!

Both "TV Is King" and "Telecide" from the Tubes' "Remote Control" (that's the
one with the original HS set on the back cover).

"I wish I was the man in the sound-proof booth
I wish I had the chance to stump the panel or maybe tell the truth
And maybe I could win a color television"
(from TV Is King)

-- Curt Alliaume

I went to a Tubes' fan site to get the lyrics to "Telecide" -- they couldn't
figure them out either. But I do know LMaD is mentioned.

I believe that there was a song called "Hollywood Squares" on Bootsy
Collins' album "Bootsy?/Player Of The Year." That was probably also the
album with "Bootzilla" on it. Of course, I could be wrong.

Let's get really arcane! Game show references on the back covers of rock
albums!

Get out your Tubes album "Prime Time" and see which game show set they
commandeered for the back cover shot!

The late Steve Goodman wrote a song with Jimmy Buffet called "My Life
Lies Behind Door Number Three." "Let's Make A Deal" was the
inspiration.

I remember back in the mid-80s there was a song called "Vanna, pick me a
letter". I think it was by Weird Al, but I'm not sure. I do know that it most
certainly was during the shopping days of WOF because of this line inbetween
verses...

$300 for a TV? You got ripped off, man!!!

Anyway, here is an additional verser from the song that I remember.

I don't care how much money I've got to spend.
I can't stand to look at Pat Sajak again.
But when I hear that sound, :::ding, ding, ding::: I'm in the bonus round.
So Vanna, pick me a letter.

In article <19981213082212...@ng-fi1.aol.com>,

i remeber that one! if i'm correct, it was a parody of the old 60's tune
"The Letter" by The Box Tops. and i think it was done by Cheech Marin of
Cheech and Chong and now Nash Bridges.

I've heard it, too. It's a parody of another song that I can't think of
either artist or title. Rick Dees here in L.A. played it every now and
again. These lyrics are from memory; I can't commit to these being
completely correct.

It starts off:

Get me a ticket for an airplane
Got to get on that Wheel of Fortune game
Please, I've got to win
Spin the wheel again
Oh Vanna, pick me a letter

Vanna pick me a letter
No one does it any better
I dream about you
Vanna, I don't understand
Why I'd spend a hundred grand
Just for me to stay
Anyway

(repeat first verse)

Can anyone help further?

I just checked the informative website on parody music, www.drdemento.com,
and the good Doctor says that the song "Vanna, Pick Me A Letter" was
recorded by Dr. Dave.

Absolutely! And it's on the tape that Matt Ottinger put together a few
years ago, if anybody still has it besides me. After all, I'm the one
who provided it to Matt from my collection of Dr. Demento shows I
recorded.

The tape also has a couple of Weird Al songs including "I Lost on
Jeopardy!"

Here's a song lyric from a tape about TV-related songs a long time ago.
I don't even know the song or the group, but it has to do with "Watching
TV With the Radio On". There's a line in the middle that goes "Watching
'Let's Make a Deal' and 'The Price is Right'..."

P.S. Don't forget Martin Mull's "Waiting for 'Dialing For Dollars' to
Call":
"Well, I'm waiting for "Dialing For Dollars" to call,
Two Hundred big ones, honey, we could use it all, ..."

Speaking of Wheel of Fortune,

Does anybody know where I can find a copy of the Dr. Demento-ish tune "His
Name Is Not Merv Griffin"? I used to have a copy about 15 years ago that I got
off of the radio, but my sister needed another blank tape for her collection and
decided to go into my room (her personal K-Mart) and taped over my
recorded tape which had that song on it.

And BTW, who sang that song???

I used to have this one too! The title is actually "My Name Is Not Merv
Griffin", and I think it might be one on of the Doctor's compilation
tapes.

Ray Stevens wrote and recorded a song for his 1980 "ME" Album called
Game SHow Love. This clever song (which is a serious song, not comedic)
has many man GS referances. I posted the lyrics on here about a month
ago. The album is no longer available. But Mercury re-released it on
CD in 1990. But that is no loger available either. I have both tho, as
I am a HUGE Ray Stevens fan.
