With his former wife, however, I have strong criticism over her non appearance
and quick remarriage. The reasons for what she did are hers and hers alone.
To go on a tangent...
Laura looked sparkling as ever! Why the lone sentence from Peter, I don't
know. I'm sure he said more.
Enough! A great program honoring a man who gave his heart to his work and his
fans.

A week before Ray's death he appeared on the Lifetime cable
TV show 'HOME AND FAMILY" Ray appeared on the show in a literal daze. It was
apparent that Ray had a lot on his mind and there was definately something
wrong with him! The final weekend of Ray's life he was in the passenger
seat of his wifes car. They were riding down the freeway and his wife said
something extremely upsetting to Ray. Ray then tried to jump out of the
moving car. His wife slowed down and Ray jumped out of the car and ran to
his friends house. He showed up at his friends front door yelling
obsentities about his wife. Ray said I'm going to Kill her, I'm going to
kill the F**kin Bitch. Then his friend ended up calling the cops so that
they could get Ray some help. Ray was locked up in the local mental hospital
that weekend. Unfortunately in the hospital Ray had plenty of time to think
about all this shit that his wife was putting him through. He was so
incredibly upset that he then decided that he wasn't going to go on living
life like this anymore. So inbetween bed checks Ray took his bed sheet, tied
one end around his neck and then tied the other end around the bar in the
closet. Then Ray did the final deed and took his last gasp of air shortly
after midnight and was found dead at 2AM.
That's the whole story about Ray told in as much detail as I
remember. Ray's death had NOTHING to do with his earlier car accident from
1994. He had already fully recovered from that. His death had everything to
do with his wife. Ray loved his wife and kids so much that he decided that
he literally didn't want to live without them. So now he's not. I was
extremely saddened by Ray's death. He always had dreams of being the next
Johnny Carson and he was getting very impatient and dissapointed with his
career because it wasn't happening. I had always felt that if he had just
stuck around longer that things would have worked out for him. He was always
very quick witted, talented and funny. Ray Combs was a great guy who many of
us will continue to miss for a very long time.

IMO, the song that best describes Ray Combs has to be the Seekers
classic, "I'll Never Find Another You". Listen to that song and you'll
agree.
BTW, if anybody missed this special, I have a copy of it for a trade.
God bless you, Ray! We all miss you and still love you!

Now hang on one sec.
I was talking to someone else about this. I think E! really twisted
Howard's words on this case.
Take another look at what and how he said that line. In my opinion, I
think what Howard was saying is, it would be the single worse thing you
could do....to RAY! Taking into consideration his present state of mind,
it's the worst thing they could have done to HIM.
Now, this is only my opinion, and it's how I took his words. Maybe I'm
wrong. And in the words of Peter Marshall or John Davidson...Do you agree
or disagree?

We don't understand what demons drive us. To give a little personal
insight, my family has a long history of alcoholism on both sides. I don't
know why very few members of my family have chosen to drink minimally, if
at all (I have done so), but they haven't. No one knows why Ray didn't
stop and say, "You know, things are bad now, but I have the strength to get
beyond my problems," but he didn't.

It sounds from the documentary as if they had separated in 1994 (am I
correct here?) instead of just before his death, as the initial reports had
inferred. I don't have any comment about her remarriage; I understand why
she would not choose to appear -- she's probably trying very hard to move
on with her life.

This is the first time I've ever actually seen Laura Chambers on
television (I didn't and still don't receive GSN) -- she's so nice! She's
the only hostess who I genuinely believe would rather have talked with Ray
Combs than Mel Gibson. Is she still at HGTV?

>>Later in the show they continue to give the impression that Combs replaced
Dawson and in "1986" producers felt the show needed a make-over and choose
Ray to host. First, the Combs version of Feud was a remake of the original
show and did not debut until "1988". And second, the Dawson version was
already over before Ray started. There was no currently airing show to
"save".>>
Absolutely correct, and I wish E! had let somebody with a little knowledge
of the history of Feud (Laura Chambers? Howard Felsher?) screen the
documentary to catch these errors. I was impressed by the insight on
Jonathan Goodson's decision to bring back Richard Dawson and Felsher's
biting commentary on the same -- and why is it I've never heard of that
consultant?
The documentary wasn't the finest piece of journalism to come down the
pike (and my wife was stunned by the promos for their other programming),
but it cleared up a lot of questions.

I don't. GSN asked Ann Cullen for interviews, but she always declined.
There's no finer woman than Ann Cullen. Wives of Celebrities shouldn't be
forced into the camera if that's not what they want.

I'm positive he said more. That's probably all that passed the censors.

Maybe phsyically, but MAYBE not mentally. It may have done more damage
then we think.
