I'm trying to think of some of the regular guests on the original
Hollywood squares. All I can think of is Charles Nelson Riley. Anyone
else?

How about:

Charley Weaver (Cliff Arquette) -- lower left square
Wally Cox -- upper left square

Someone who was around during this run of HS (I wasn't born yet), please
pick up where I left off!

You got Paul Lynde, John Davidson, Charlie Weaver, Rose Marie.....of course
there's Wally Cox and Karen Valentine and Vincent Price and Michelle Lee
and Joan Rivers and Leslie Uggams and in later years George Gobel and
Wayland Flowers & Madame. But the show used to draw in the bigger names
from Hollywood. I know Burt Reynolds appeared several times during the
late 60's and 70's. The list of names go on and on.....too bad NBC
destroyed all those old tapes!!! What a treasure trove they'd be today!!!

And once again they call on me to fill the gaps. Anyway, here's a list
of some of the regulars & semi-regulars from the ORIGINAL HS throughout
its 14-year run on NBC:

Paul Lynde (center)
Rose Marie
Cliff (Charley Weaver) Arquette
Wally Cox
Abby Dalton
Joan Rivers
Morey Amsterdam
Karen Valentine
George Gobel
Charo
Wayland Flowers & Madame
Vincent Price

Does that satisfy your curiosity?

Wally Cox (1967 until his death in 1973)
Charley Weaver a.k.a. Cliff Arquette (1966 until his death in 1974 or 1975)
Paul Lynde (1968 to 1979, 1980 to 1981)
Rose Marie (semi-regular through most of the run)
George Gobel (1974-ish through 1981)

All of the above are now dead except Rose Marie. You can also include Karen
Valentine, David Brenner, Morey Amsterdam, and a few others.

Charles Nelson Reilly was never a regular on the original Hollywood Squares; he
appeared on Match Game instead (along with Brett Somers and Richard Dawson).

For more details on both shows, go to the web site listed below.

Was there a period that she wasn't a semi-regular? I know she was in
the '65 pilot and the '80 NBC finale, per those eps. that I have in my
collection.

FWIW, CNR _did_ occasionally appear on the Davidson version, including
the '89 finale (not accounting for the alleged "4th season" that
supposedly aired in some areas). Has he been on the current run yet?

Charles Nelson Reilly was more a regular on Match Game from 1973-82 and 1990-91
than on Hollywood Squares. Paul Lynde, George Gobel, Karen Valentine, Vincent
Price, Wally Cox, Charley Weaver, and John Davidson were among the original
Squares regulars.

There were only five original HS regulars (other than Peter Marshall, of
course!). They were:

Morey Amsterdam
Cliff Arquette ("Charlie Weaver")
Wally Cox
Abby Dalton
Rose Marie

Everyone else, including Paul Lynde and George Gobel, came later, even though
they wound up staying longer.

Vincent Price and Marty Allen were also frequent semi-regulars down through the
years.

Amsterdam died in 1997 I think. Valentine appeared on the Current HS back in
May.

Abby Dalton(I think) and Rose Marie are still among the living.

CNR was not a regular on the original HSQ...how that rumor started, I
have no idea....Cat

I have seen TV GUIDE listings from 1972-1973 at Oklahoma State UNiversity
Library, and CNR was mentioned at least once , as was RD. This predated
MG70x by a few months. Don't ask for a listing though, since I'm nowhere
near OSU now.

Paul Lynde was one of the regular Hollywood Squares. I have a copy of
the rare Paul Lynde Halloween Special from 1976 on tape if anyone's
interested in trading for it.

Thanks
Jamie
