I noticed the major overhaul about 11 PM last night (and I agree, the new
look is very impressive!) but my ISP's news server was down most of the
night.
As some atgsers told me last night via AOL IM, adding Chain Reaction to the
schedule would be too smart. I'd like to see the NBC version but I'm not
holding my breath.

Thanks for the info--looks like the link on my web site is kaput (have to
fix it ASAP)
It is a nice redesign, although they'll want to do a bit more copy editing
in the future, as "Jack Newton" is billed as the host of Hollywood
Showdown...
And I agree, they do seem to imply that we'll be getting Chain Reaction
and seeing more of Joker's Wild again soon, although it will be
interesting to see which versions they have in store...

I *think* unless GSN has another original in the works with CR, we'll
probably get the NBC version back (the Canadian USA Network version didn't
last long on the schedule the last time they tried it). TJW will likely
start at the beginning of the syndie episodes (1977-).
Here's hoping that TJW and the Gong Show time slots are between 4 PM and 8 AM,
since that's the time my cable server airs GSN (thus missing some of the good
game shows, but still catching the classics [TPIR, MG 7x]).

They will probably torture us with 4 daily airings each of the Pat Finn Joker's Wild version and the
Low Budget Canadian Chain Reaction version.
Let's throw in a Jim Caldwell/Patrick Wayne TTD Hour Block and GSN's got a winning schedule!!

No, no. I insist on a daily marathon block format.
A six hour rock block of the classics:
Monday: Wayne TTD
Tuesday: Free 4 All
Wednesday: Throut and Neck
Thursday: Quicksilver
Friday: Diamond Head Game
The blocks run from 9 AM-3 PM Eastern, with the obligatory repeat from 6
PM Eastern-Midnight. Sandwiched between the two marathon airings from 3
PM - 6 PM will be either a rotating block of TTTT episodes, specially
selected as those where Kitty Carlisle is at her most obnoxious, or a
"Best of The Joker's Wild" selected as those where the judge corrects Bill
Cullen at least five times per episode.

Caldwell TTD is the only possibility. As far as Wayne TTD and Finn TJW,
there's no chance of that. GSN doesn't have any of the two in their library.

I suppose CR will air on weekends only, especially if its the NBC run, which
only lasted 23 weeks. The USA CR ran five years(650 eps. were made, 595 with
Geoff, 55 with Blake).

Considering that GSN makes schedule changes every 6 months, there's no
good reason why NBC Chain Reaction couldn't be shown on the weekdays.

If GSN plans to air the NBC version, then you can bet it'll be on
weekends. Of the first 80 episodes, GSN appeared to only have 52 of
them last time they aired it a couple of years ago. However, it's
perfectly possible that the USA version will appear, and it is
perfectly fit for the weekdays. Maybe GSN will wind up airing both
versions. I wouldn't mind seeing the USA version at all.
I think the entire run was intact for the USA reruns of NBC CR in 1985-86.
The Station (Sony's game site) has had Chain Reaction on board for over a year.
I wouldn't be stunned if they tried it as an original.

It's listed in the "all-time favorites" section which suggests that they
don't have any such plans right now.

April has been two years since the GT shows returned to the schedule. Also, how
long was/is the TPIR contract good for, since it was gotten in a separate deal.
right?
Well, Tattletales, Family Feud, Match Game, and TPIR all get the same
level of "billing" as Chain Reaction, so I'm not too worried.

How about adding BUZZ! and Big Deal to the lineup on weekends?

Hey! Lay off the Great One.
Even in his last years, he was alot better than some of the nimrods that we've
seen since his passing.

I have to admit - knowing GSN - that's what they'll likely do.
However, since we all know they have the last year of the CBS
version (1974-75) I'd really like to see that.
Is there any reason why they can't air them? They've played the
syndie ones for years - with the exception of the last six
months.

I love Bill Cullen, and sometimes the judge was way too quick to interrupt
him, but it's pretty clear from time to time on TJW that he's having a
tough time reading the questions and keeping on top of the game.

You know, I've meant to ask this for months but never got around to it--does
GSN have some shows that they never bothered to convert to DigiBeta since
they never had any intention of ever airing them? There's quite a few shows
that have NEVER been aired (any CBS TJW, Love Experts, anything other than
that one ep of Fantasy, etc), and I'm wondering if they only converted an
"example" episode, and left the rest as is since they never had any
intention on taking them out of storage.
I wonder how bad it would hurt if you hit someone with an "Extreme Chain." :)

She had her moments where IMO she came off like a snob, looking down on anyone
who had anything to do with sports or other less haughty endeavors in life.
This was more so in the Collyer version though.

She does it plenty in the 70s version, too. I can't remember the '80
version, and saw a grand total I believe of two episodes of the '90 show,
so I can't comment...but I'll lay good money that I'll find her just as
obnoxious 10 and 20 years later...

Has this ever gotten off the subject. Oh, well.
I never found Kitty obnoxious. (As with The Joker's Wild '90, it's a question
of definitions: I find the mayor of New York obnoxious. [To quote from Will &
Grace: "He puts the noxious in obnoxious."]) I think Kitty, given the social
set she was in, might have been unaware the impression she may have left was a
society belle mingling with the little people -- something the earthier Peggy
Cass and the down-to-earth Bill Cullen never did. Still, I could understand if
what I found a bit condescending at times you found odiferous.
Also, do remember much of what they say on To Tell the Truth must be viewed
through the eyes of the era. Example: a 1970 episode I have shows three male
makeup artists, heavily made up themselves to avoid recognition. When the
imposters were revealed, they turned out to be Paul Alter (the show's
director), and Mark Goodson's (female) secretary. Cass, noting in retrospect
that the imposter, whose answers seemed somewhat incongruous with the biker
outfit and heavy beard, turned out to be female, shouted out, "We thought you
were a big sissy!" No one would dare say that to anyone under any
circumstances today.

"Social set" is never an excuse for behavior. A guy whose social set
drinks cheap beer by the 24-pack and considers belching and belly
scratching noble pursuits may be unaware of the impression he leaves, but
I don't dig that, either.

Hell, almost any half-hour on GSN is an interesting look at what you can
and cannot say today. It's amazing what, for example, the "Just Say No"
mania did. You'd never get Richard Dawson hitting up a chemist for speed
today.
