Hey, how about if GSN dug up his appearances on other gmae shows, such
as "Password", "$25,000" Pyramid" (or whatever the amount was!), "I've
Got a Secret" (1972) or "Cross Wits"? Here's an even more obscure one
-- "Lohman and Barkely's Name Droppers". Anybody remember that series?
Any other suggestions?

He was also a mystery guest on Blyden WML? and told an amusing earthquake
story.
I'm guessing that that story is referring to a time when the HS set was
evacuated for a quake, and Paul was stuck in his square because he couldn't
remove his clip-on mic?

The other incident, which was the one involving the microphone,
happenedon "You Don't Say". He said that as many times as he had taken
off a lavalier mike, this time he had so much trouble with it that he
was the last one out of the studio. When he finally got outside he said
to the female contetant who had been his partneron the show, "Why didn't
you help me?", to which she replied, "We were told not to touch the
stars!"

Paul was actually a frequent game show player long before he settled into
his center square permanently. In addition to the ones Mary mentioned, he's
credited with appearing on "House Party", "The Celebrity Game", "You Don't
Say", "Everybody's Talking", "Snap Judgment", "Personality", "The Dating
Game", "Funny You Should Ask" and "Win With The Stars".
Problem is, except for "The Dating Game", none of those shows are in GSN's
control, and it's unlikely that many of them even exist anymore. Some of us
have a brief pilot he shot for something called "Crossword" (which would
eventually become "Cross-Wits") and I've heard that there's one Lynde
appearance in "The Celebrity Game" that's beginning to circulate.
I know I've mentioned this site before, but if you're interested in Paul
Lynde, it doesn't hurt to mention it again:

The webmaster was featured in the A&E biography, and now even has a book
deal to publish a biography of Lynde.

LYNDE: Oh, shut up!
I believe TVLand just leased all or part of the Screen Gems library
in exchange for the Paramount package that's going to the Hallmark
channel.I think this package includes his self titled sitcom "The Paul
Lynde Show", which I've seen discribed as "All in the Family" minus
the bigotry and controversal subjects.

Lily-livered version, basically; the setup was basically the same (father butts
heads with long-haired ne'er-do-well son-in-law). Elizabeth Allen played his
wife. The only difference was the addition of a daughter, played by '70s kid
actor mainstay Pamelyn Ferdin (a.k.a. the first Edna Unger -- she left The Odd
Couple for this?).

I thought I read that TV Land bought about 20 Screen Gems titles,
including "Hazel", "The Monkees" and some other things I can't think of
now. Can't recall that there were any series on which Lynde guested
(were "Gidget" or "The FLying Nun" on the list?) but I didn't see a
complete list.
Come to think of it, if TV Land could get ahold of the pilots that he
did that *didn't* sell, they could do a mini-marathon of those! LOL!
(Seriously, I do wish that William Asher would donate a copy of Lynde's
"Sedgewick Hawk-Styles, Prince of Danger" to the Museum of Television &
Radio because it is supposed to be an absolute riot!)

Not everything they have in their colleciton is available for viewing, but
according to their on-line database, UCLA has a copy of "Sedgewick
Hawk-Styles", which Lynde himself said was one of the best things he'd ever
done.

Having seen an ep on the WWOR national feed back in 1993, I can attest to
that. :-)
Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")
Two daughters, I believe--Jane Kaczmarek played the older daughter, 20
years before becoming "Malcolm in the Middle"'s uber mom Lois.

If I recall, the pre-Lynde episodes weren't that bad... (at least the couple
I saw on WWOR-EMI)
Truly Paul Lynde became a god of comedy on the day that aired...

(BTW: Speaking of comedy, I've been helping go through some old Bill
Hicks standup tapes from 1983 for possible CD release, and believe it
or not, the king of the acid tongue did some Password/Allen Ludden
jokes in his early days!!!)
