Merilee Bordin is still in the hotseat when we come back. Mike Bordin,

In the eyes of the producers, the phone game is probably less trouble,
because they can hire temps to call people every month, and the producers
can stay home and not worry about having to pick people.

There's an interesting new twist in the rules for the current phone-ins.
Not that it affects this set, but at the very end there are new rules for what
may happen for after February 1st. The kicker here is that as I don't
have a cell phone, I gave different numbers depending on whether the possible
call back would be on a work day or either a weekend /day I'd be working
at home. So if they call my home phone on a work day, or vice versa, I'd
just be out of luck.
New rule 8:
Future Player Pool: Game Sponsor reserves the right to conduct additional
random drawings from among players as described below ("Player Pool") to
qualify for Playoff Games for future episodes of the On-Air Program. All
players who correctly answered all three (3) questions, selected a Tape Date
and specific episode, if applicable, to qualify for and completed all other
requirements during the Round I telephone calls from August 25, 2000 through
February 1, 2001, and who did not become a Contestant on the Main Game
during episodes of the On-Air Program broadcast from October 3, 2000,
through May 31, 2001, are eligible at the discretion of the Game Sponsor for
random drawings to qualify to become a Semifinalist and participate in
Playoff Game(s) for future episodes of the On-Air Program. If the Game
Sponsor decides to use the "Player Pool" for future episodes of the On-Air
Program two hundred (200) players for each Tape Date and specific episode,
if applicable, will be selected in a random drawing from the Player
Pool. Players selected in a random drawing will receive an eligibility call
by a representative of the Contest to qualify them as Semifinalists to play
a Round II Semifinal Round Playoff Game. Eligibility calls will be made
daily during the hours of 12 noon to 3PM ET using the telephone number
entered by the player during the Round I telephone call that the player
wanted to be contacted as if selected in a random drawing. Representatives
of the On-Air Program will make two (2) attempts to reach each player
following same procedures as outlined previously for eligibility phone
calls. If a player is unavailable for the Tape Date and specific episode, if
applicable, that player will be put back into the Player Pool for possible
selection in another drawing for another Tape Date and specific episode, if
applicable. Players from the Player Pool will only be put into one (1)
drawing per Tape Date and specific episode, if applicable. Players from the
Player Pool may qualify only one (1) time for the same Tape Date and
specific episode, if applicable.

I can help you with two of the first three, or at least partially, only
because I saw an interesting twist to them that I'm wondering if anyone else
noticed.
Keep in mind that in New England, and I'm guessing on most stations, WWTBAM
was preceded by an airing of the classic movie "Willie Wonka and the
Chocolate Factory."
My wording is not exact and in fact may not be even close.
For (I think) $2000: An 'oompa' band refers to which of the following types
of instruments?
A.) Strings
B.) Brass.
C.) Woodwind.
D.) Percussion.
Oompa. As in Loompa. Get the connection?
She thought about it for a while before guessing B.) Brass, which was
correct.
I, however would have been dead wrong. I distinctly recalling a song we used
to sing in school about the good-kin doctor living in Shangri-La, playing
his "oompa oompa big bass drum."
$4000: The Ghiradelli company based in San Francisco is known for making
what?
I'm afraid I can't remember the choices but you can bet your everlasting
gobstopper it's chocolate.
I found that to be rather cute, though (OT) since Nestle actually makes
Wonka bars now and other assorted treats bearing the names of those products
mentioned in the movie, why the hell they didn't capitalize with commercials
for them is beyond me. Then when I went to my 7-Eleven and looking for Wonka
bars, they had gobstoppers and Scrumdidliumptious and all that stuff but not
one damn regular Wonka bar. To raise a boy's hopes like that only to make
him go without...the savage! (/OT)
-NSS.
>Looks like the contestant search is producing really compelling TV;

These were just some of the interesting contestants, upcoming episodes
are more typical of pre-audition episodes.
Not having made it into the Hot Seat, I do favor a return to the phone
qual. process.

If the movie have mentioned about Nerds, I would have got a whole caseful of
it!!!

Might as well while I'm at it.
Merilee Bordin, a food stylist from San Francisco, is playing. Her husband
Mike is in the Fastest Finger chairs. How come? Crowded seating? Nope.
They both auditioned at separate times, and the producers picked both of
them for consecutive tape dates. It was coincidence that she was the
rollover contestant.
All 3 lifelines are ready.
$2,000: What type of instruments give an "oompah" band its distinctive
sound?
A. Strings
B. Brass
C. Woodwinds
D. Percussion
. o O ( This episode was preceded by a broadcast of the movie "Willy Wonka
and the Chocolate Factory". )
. o O ( It features characters called the "Oompah-Loompahs". )
Merilee was embarrassed for not knowing this, because her husband Mike is a
musician. But she eventually picks the correct answer, B. Brass.
$4,000: In Greek mythology, Pegasus is a winged what?
A. Horse
B. Sword
C. Serpent
D. Ship
She quickly says A. Horse. Right answer. Her giggles from last night begin
to disappear.

$8,000: San Francisco's Ghirardelli Square is the longtime site of a factory
that produces which of the following?
A. Chocolate

C. Ships
D. Clocks
The giggles are back. Her home city of San Francisco won't let her come
back if she's wrong. A. Chocolate is the right answer.
. o O ( Another "Chocolate Factory" reference? )
