Which of the 2 MG versions is better? Leave the 1973-82 version out this time,
tough as it is! :-)

Other than the matchup game which I didn't like and thought was even really too
open for cheating (like get a pattern to pick the first one in alphabetical
order all the time or something like that), I liked the 90-91 game better. I
liked Ross Schaffer as a host, and I liked the stars better (Nell Carter I can
leave or take and I can't stand Judy Tenuta). The set was also better I
thought.

Without a doubt...no contest here...the 1990-91 version just puts the current
version to shame. I think the 1990-91 version much more closely resembles the
1973-82 version for funniness. Plus, the set is so much better.

I liked MG 90 because I thought it was a good attempt at a
revival...they changed some things from 7x, but it was true enough to
the spirit of the original...and it had Chuck, which made it fun.
Match-up was a little weird, but it was a good show....it was amusing,
which is more I can say than for 98...Cat

SLIGHTLY better because they did bring back some of the people that
played it before, like Betty White, Vicki Lawrence (who I think was
better in this version), Arte Johnson, JoAnne Worley, Dolly Martin, and
Fred Travelena.

The only thing that bugged me about MG 90 was lack of interaction with
the stars, and the choppy editing. MG 98 has less editing (if they edit
out ANYTHING at all), and because of that there is PLENTY of time for the
stars to interact and do crazy things, but I have yet to see them use
this time effectively. Mike's STILL repeating the questions ad nauseum,
and none of the stars are being much help in terms of being funny.

I'd have to go with 90 pretty hands-down. It moved as a good clip, the
celebrities, although not all A-list (they were pretty honest about it, at
least...I can't remember how Shannon Tweed was billed but it was pretty
funny) it worked well. And the arrow spinning around the wheel was a nice
touch. :)

I actually liked the Match-up round. It was new without changing the feeling
of Match Game 7x. But, I agree, the 90 version was better than MG98/99. That
carribean music version of the old MG theme sucks, IMHO. I hate the graphic
screens. I hate the fact that the celeb comes down to the podium for the Super
Match. I hate that there are 5 players instead of 6. (Although, my cousin
said that Nell Carter takes up 2 seats anyway..lol {b4 you send hate e-mail, I
am overweight, too and can laugh at it}) I don't like the fact that every star
plays every round. I want the triangle and circle back eliminating the stars
that matched already in later rounds. Michael Berger is ok, but doesn't keep
the stars in tow like Gene Rayburn did, (ok, I know, we are not comparing with
MG7x, but I had to say it.) I hate Judy Tenudo. Vicki is alright, but she
seems to be sinking to the childish levels of the amatuer stars in the rest of
the panel. She could be funny without being stupid (unlike Tenudo). Since
most of the Match Game 7x panelists(+Gene) are pretty old, I can't agree with
bringing any of them back. We don't need to feel sorry for them if they are
too old to play or to be like their old selves. BUT, we can find comparable
stars with like personalities. (My cousin said that Billy Crystal and Robin
Williams would be very nice to have along with Whoopie, but I said 'How much
money do you think MG has to pay for celebs?')

One of the things that made a lot of game shows special was being taped or
filmed in New York City instead of LA. There were a lot of broadway
actors/actresses participating in the panels getting them national exposure and
adding much flavor. It also affords east coasters a chance to go see a game
show in person or be a contestant without schlepping out to LA.
Well I am done venting. Thank you very much.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled NG. (seen on most of these CBS
stations!)

Don't hate me, MG '98.

MG '90 was OK, but according to some, few (possibly many) people HATED the
Match-Up!

& I don't care if you flame me!!

THERE ARE OTHER MG '98 FANS OUT THERE TOO!!!!!

I've got to go with Match Game '98-'99. And the reasons seem to be the reasons
everyone hates it.

I like...
- 5 celebrities instead of 6
- they all play every round
- and most important to me: next to nothing is edited out (probably because
there's only 5 celebrities)

Granted, they could raise up the prize money a bit, have returning contestants,
and it sure would be nice if the question wasn't read 4 or 5 times, but I
really do find this version to be the best.

The '90-'91 version was okay but Ross Schaffer really isn't a good game show
host in my opinion. I've seen him on other shows and he's usually funny but on
Match Game he was just blah - maybe a little too nervous.

And the game itself just wasn't as much fun to watch as the current version.

Ok, but why?

I'd like to see a new opening. Something similar to MG 7x with the
rotating square. Perhaps a rotating hexagon or dodecahedron :-)

I'm not a fan of the opening either, but the "yeah" is recorded live, not fake.

First off, I want to say, "that's a GOOD answer!"

Oh, I knew it was recorded live. I said it was "fake sounding." I guess I
should've used the word "forced", cause it sure doesn't sound like anyone in
the audience means it.

After watching that opening I have to force myself not to flip to another
channel, that's how bad it is. It's pretentious and protracted, and promises
more than it delivers.

Oh boy, I'm beating a dead horse again, how does this keep happening?

i don't remember much about 90-91, but i do know that 98-99 can get really old
really quickly. i would enjoy it MUCH more if they used the same old set with
the same old music and the same old revolving square at the beginning. the new
one tries to be all high-tech with video screens and what not, but it's just
not cute. and i want circles and triangles back too! at least they've
improved the questions--judy can only answer "sex sausage" once a show instead
of all four times.

the one episode of MG 70's that I saw when I was visting a relative. If I ever
get GSN I may change my mind. In regards to my age .lets just say I was thought

I got with MG 90 over MG 98, because MG 90 pretty much used the original theme,
and it was closer to the original then MG 98.

FOR ALL YOU JUDY BASHERS OUT THERE:
Who on any other game show gives more effort and tries harder to be
entertaining than Judy Tenuta? I can't think of anybody else who shows
more commitment. Trying to help others have a good time counts for a

Whoopi Goldberg
Only if you think every night hearing racial-themed humor directed
only to the black viewers is funny (Personally, I wish she'd talk to the
entire audience, and quit bitching about how (in her mind) all the white
people are prejudiced.) <Obviously, there is prejudice in the world on
all sides. And I am hardly condoning it. But think about it, how about
having Rush Limbaugh or Michael Reagan come on and make jokes about
liberals? (ex. "Why would you want Lt. Uhura when you could have Barney
Frank?" could have been asked right after Whoopee chewed a guy out last
week about a joke he made about dating Lt. Uhura from Star Trek not
being a great date opportunity.) Keep all that out of the game show.

The vastness of your incorrect perception, in this case, is staggering. By all
reports, Caroline is having a great time and is a big game show fan. And
having seen her live a few months ago, I can safely say she can ad-lib with

Rodeo Drive. But that wasn't really all to the opening. They had the "window
shoppers" milling around Rodeo Drive. The Louise finishes talking and turns
toward the camera and says, "Hi! I'm Louise DuArt." Then she gives and
interesting fact or rumor that we'll hear about later in the show......etc...

I thought it was a pretty innovative (for lack of a better word) opening.

Yep...and then she'd say something to the effect of "you'll find out on
the street of (something) and (something), where the glitter meets the
dirt, Rodeo Drive!"

At this point, announcer Burton Richardson took over with "And hoping to

OK OK:
If all of you perceive her differently, I am probably wrong about
Caroline Rhea. I still won't stop supporting Judy Tenuta, though.
OTHER MG&HS STARS:
Coolio, John Salley, Rondel Sheridan
No Kin Shriner sighting on HS though
