What I mean is, do you still make any effort to see if it's coming on?
It's pre-empted so often, and comes on an hour too soon in any case (6pm
CST) that I missed all but one or two episodes last season. TV listings
have been unreliable (although I still review Don Del Grande's posts,
THANKS!) that when friends in other cities mentioned they had seen a
recent episode, it was usually too late to do anything about it.

I don't think this is something FOX wants to hear - that basically, the
chances it *won't* be on are big enough, it's not worth the effort to
check anymore. I'm looking forward to the DVD's when they become
available. Hopefully, any future Groening productions will be on another
network. Any chances that Futurama could be picked up by NBC, ABC, or
(shudder) UPN or WB?

Because I have to download new episodes anyway I don't really care if
they're on TV. ;)

I don't take either tactic--I hang ghostlike around the TV mute button on
the Sundays when the show is supposed to be on and turn on the sound once
the evil f-word is over and the nice animations come on. Once the show is
on for real, I value it like the treasure it is (then wait with dread for
the Simpsons to come on in half an hour and disgust me again...).

A couple of days ago, I decided to watch one of my Futurama tapes. I
got a beer, a bowl of popcorn and lit a couple of candles on the Leela
alter and sat down. As soon as I hit the play button I heard car doors
slamming out front. Four Fox network goons kicked in my front door and
seized the tape. They replaced it with a tape of an NFL game and
forced my to watch. After the game I was allowed to watch the last ten
minutes of an episode. This has gone too far!

Hey, just kidding, I never eat popcorn.

December 9th Cleveland Vs who the hell cares. If I miss the season premiere
for football I may not bother watching at all.

Not likely, assuming there even will be another Groening TV production.

Sure it does. Happened at least four times in the last couple of years.
Twice this year alone.

Since the WB and UPN are real networks now (true, they don't program 24
hours a day yet, but they are not "syndication" networks by any stretch),
the Buffy and Roswell relocations last year would qualify.

Whoops only one of them was successful. But your right I forgot about JAG.
But I still don't see Futurama moving. Except possibly to Comedy Central
(where it will go if FOX cancels it anyway) but I doubt CC has the kind of
cash to keep Futurama going at the level FOX can.

Yea WB and UPN are Syndication systems not networks.

Admittedly, not a major network switch, but MST3K moved from Comedy
Central to SciRe where it ran for four more years. It was cult hit and
made them a ton of money. Naturally they overplayed it until even die
hard fans tuned out. Right now, South Park is bringing in pretty big
cash. They could probably do Futurama, depending on how willing the
talent is willing to re-negotiate contracts.

I would love to see Comedy Central get Futurama. It would be on more
than once and it would be one of the networks most popular shows. At
Fox it's way down on the ladder. I doubt it would ever happen, but now
that we've discussed the possibility, a new internet rumor to that
effect can start circulating.

The Critic moved from Fox to ABC (or was it the other way around?), then
went to Comedy Central for syndication, and then churned out a few new
(crappy) Flash-episodes at www.shockwave.com.

There was also Family Matters, which moved from ABC to CBS.

Though... these aren't "happy" examples, are they?

It's a matter of opinion. I was pretty disappointed with the last
season or two on Comedy Central. They improved greatly once they
moved. The host segments with Dr Forester & his mother were weak at
best, I was quite surprised that Mrs Forester was so good with Bobo
and Brain Guy.

But they might have to take a slight cut in pay to fit into Comedy
Central's budget. They could offer specials and guest spots in
exchange.

Sorry, it's mandatory now. Armed cable installers will be by between
1-5 tomorrow.

Um, I mean . . .

Not just you, a lot fewer people get Comedy Central than Fox. However,
at Fox, Futurama will be lucky to last two more seasons. I'd like to
see CC get it rather than have it canceled. Of course it would be even
better if Fox would give it a better slot.

Bottom line, it ain't gonna happen anyway.

When Frank Coniff left it pretty much ended for me. Mary Joe Phel {sic?} was
always good but the loss of Frank to the writing pool finished it for me.

The level FOX can? Making six new episodes a year, and pre-empting half of
them for sports? Maybe CC would pre-empt them for re-runs of Saturday Night
Live, or the Hugh Hefner Roast.

I often accidentally call "Comedy Central" "Saturday Night Live". This is
probably because that's the only non-offensive show keeping it on the air.
Yeah, I mean that. Even things like "The Love Toilet" and "Carbonated
Douche" seem less offensive than their crappy flagship. BRING BACK MONTY

Uhh FOX contracts between 18-24 episodes a year. And they don't come cheap
either. Comedy central I don't think has the kind of capital to really
sustain more then a couple of their own shows. it's mostly a syndication
station.
