How could I miss it? Fry's 9 days older than me. Funny, I always thought
he was in his 20's. A 30 year old pizza delivery boy...no wonder he hated
his life.

Well, it obviously isn't, which I think is why there might be a continuity
glitch here. Does anyone else remember Fry being in his twenties in an
earlier episode?

Yes. I do remember Leela saying he was either 25 or 26, though I have no idea
what episode it's from.

Well, remember that the Mets made it to the World Series in both 1969
and 1973. Ed Kranepool was still with the Mets in 1973. That would make
Fry 26 years old during News Years Eve, 1999.

There's gotta be some kinda continuity problem. There's almost no way Fry's
30 years old. I seem to remember in a previous ep Fry mentioning his age or

Yes, and then he went back to work at the pizza place. So, he was 24
when he started working there, but how long was that before he
disappeared?
In "My Three Suns" Leela says he's 25.
Leela: ". . .that a shiftless 25 year old delivery boy could kill the
emperor and be rewarded instead of punished."
Fry: "Leela, you don't have to beat around the bush. We all know who
you're talking about, Me right?"

I posted on this subject before, but it looks like few newsreaders
picked it up.
The two players mentioned by name were Ed Kranepool and Jerry Grote.
They were together on the Mets from 1966 to 1976. The Mets won the World
Series in 1969, and the NL pennant in 1973. However, the radio broadcast
that Fry's mother was listening to does not say anything about the game
other than the Mets winning it.
So it could have been 1974, agreeing with the other information given.

transcript of the broadcast heard in the episode? I can check it against what
Total Baseball says.

The radio broadcast does say: "And Grote leans into the pitch. It
hits him! The Mets win." So, (providing that wasn't made up by the
writers) anyone remember Grote getting hit by the pitch and winning
the game? Hmm, reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons with
the nuclear power plant softball team, where Homer gets hit by the
pitch, and wins the game.

Shame, they went through the trouble of getting the names right, they
should have gone a step further.
