Sorry I couldn't just add this to my last post, but it hasn't shown up
yet. The final numbers went up even higher!

There is great news for Friends this week! The episode pulled 34.9
MILLION VIEWERS, the most any regularly scheduled episode of the show
has ever had! The previous record was held by The One with the Prom
Video, which had 33.6 million viewers. The only Friends episode ever
to pull more viewers than last night's was The One After the Super
Bowl, which pulled 53.0 million viewers since it aired after the 1996
Super Bowl, which was the most-watched program in U.S. television
history with more than 138 million viewers. Keep reading for all the
details...

THE EIGHTH SEASON FINALE OF FRIENDS IS EASILY THE TOP SHOW OF THE
NIGHT AND THE MOST WATCHED REGULARLY SCHEDULED FRIENDS EPISODE EVER!

Fast Affiliate Ratings for May 16, 2002

Friends concluded its eighth season on Thursday with a one-hour season
finale! Meanwhile, the ratings point to a huge victory that will lead
to the show being named the top show of the season next week!
Thursday's episode had more viewers than any other regularly scheduled
Friends episode in the history of the show! Only the episode that
aired after the Super Bowl in 1996 pulled more viewers.

The hour-long Friends episode pulled a 20.5 rating, a 33 share, and
34.9 million viewers, well above the 18.7 rating, 31 share, and 30.1
million viewers it had for last season's finale. The rating nearly
doubled that of Survivor, which came away with an 11.2 rating, an 18
share, and 19.2 million viewers, down a full point from its 12.2, 20
share, and 20.8 million viewers last week due to the increased
competition. The season finale of ER placed second for the night with
a 17.6/28 and 27.5 million viewers. CSI was third with a 16.1/25 and
27.0 million viewers, followed by Will & Grace in fourth with a
15.2/24 and 23.7 million viewers. A repeat of CSI that followed the
original episode came in fifth with an 11.3/18, followed by Survivor
in sixth. All together, NBC and CBS accounted for approximately half
of television's viewing audience!

With less than a week remaining in the television season, Friends now
simply needs to wait to be named the top show of the season! The
sitcom routinely finishes in the top five, but has never finished a
season as the most-watched show before. In its eighth season, despite
a dip in the ratings in recent weeks before the season finale, the
show will finally be able to claim that prestigious title. As of last
week, Friends was averaging a 14.9/24 this year, well above CSI's
14.6/22 and ER's 14.3/24. Combined with this week's ratings, this
guarantees the show to be number-one of the season, but number-one of
the year, which includes summer reruns, could shape up to be very
close if CSI continues to outperform Friends. Meanwhile, encore
episodes of Friends have now aired so often that they are no longer
considered specials, but rather regularly scheduled programming. These
episodes finished the season with a 12.2/19 average, which so far
places them in sixth place above both this season's installments of
Survivor despite the fact that every encore episode has been a rerun.

For those who aren't familiar with the numbers, the rating is
the percentage of all television homes tuned to a given show, while
the share is the percentage of in-use television homes tuned to the
show. For all ratings data and articles and Friends episode previews,
