NOT! Nick already has 700 years of guilt. The dramatic struggle is man
against himself ... this creature of the night trying to fly in the face of his
lust, his predatorial self-indulgence, and into the light once more -- if not
the light of da
y then at least the light of love and reason! There are a sufficcient number
of menacing creatures around Nick who persist in their evil, and who want to
drag him down as well.

How can guilt be good for the soul? Why do you think so many people, like O.J.
Simpson, deny their guilt? The mere thought of it crushes the soul! However,
we can learn from the pain stemming from our guilt. It lets us know we have
erred egregiously a
nd must go through the consequences ... no pun intended. Besides, Nick rebels
against not only what he is, but against what mankind is becoming: a
narcotized, eroticized mass of predatorial hunger feeding off the weakest.
Nick's struggle is a reminder o
f our own struggle, our own responsibility to be the morally best we can be
despite our selfish, fleshly inclinations.

...Maybe I'm just a bit more desensitized to the whole "morality and call
of the conscience" thing than your average person, but I always thought it
was just a really cool plot for a TV show, myself...
