The new iteration of this series starts in a little while - there are
some changes, apparently. It seems the viewers will choose the actual
winner, and Bobby Flay and Giada (and maybe Alton?) will be mentors
and competing against each other or something. I'm not sure these
changes will be an improvement, but I guess the network is desperate.

I've always enjoyed the NFS series in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
But isn't there a serious and obvious problem with letting the viewers
decide who the next "star" will be? We will not be tasting tasting
the damned dishes!

The FN, it seems to me, is tacitly admitting that the whole isn't
really about cooking ability (although I do believe that a couple of
the previous series winners can cook); it's a popularity contest.

FN has already thrown in the towel - haven't you noticed that all the
evening programs are touted as entertainment?

You really think FN will totally allow the viewers to choose who goes
home and who wins? I am sure that if you were to check the fine print
you would find that the producers have the final say over the results.
So they will get the sort of person that they want in the end
regardless of what the public wants.

I suspect what's going to happen is the FN will manipulate the public
(through editing) into supporting their preferred contestant.

...or just make the finalists the ones they could live with.
