Anyone else think that Mort Goldman was kind of a let down in comparison to
the earlier characters like Joe, Quagmire, and Cleveland?
I think his character is there just to be irritating and he does his
job well. hehe :)

I agree...Mort's irritating, and his overly detailed descriptions of his
health problems or others can be cringe-worthy, but he's still amusing at
the same time, IMO.
Chuck
Yeah. I didn't like him either. Just wasn't a funny character to me
He does have one of the funniest Family Guy moments:
Brian sniffing the other dog's backside, and then claiming
that he thought it smelled likecookies. Mort gets down for a sniff
"Does it it really smell like cookies? Argh! She farted and it
went down my throat!"

Let me put it this way...he's the only character whose scenes have me
reacing for the remote with the fast forward button. (Heh, but I'm
frequently rewinding scenes with Quagmire...and the one where he takes
Chris to the nudie bar? The part where his "divining rod" shows the way
to go? Absolutely classic in slo mo. Kudos to the animators.)
Mort is the father, no? If so, he's in no way formulated after Woddy
Allen so far as I can see, save maybe some similarities in appearance.
He's supposed to be Sol from the Jerkey Boys, no question about it. If
you listen to their early stuff that circulated about 10-12 years ago,
Mort is a direct ripoff of much of the dialogue which is what I find so
hilarious. Far more creative than ripping off Woody, AFAIC...

Mort has had some funny scenes but far and away for me the least funny
or at least the character not given that many funny bits is Chris. Bad
luck or intentional?
The funniest scene with Chris for me is When Peter is teaching him how
to get out of a check, and he starts beating that guy to death with
the wine bottle, cracks me up everytime.
Hmmm, didn't realise he was doing the voice. I used to listen to those
albums endlessly many, many years ago. The name in question is "Sol
Rosenburg", and much of his demeanor was having these problems with
communication, heath and life.
