According to his bio info, Randy was "married to actress Rose Parra" for 10
years. I've never heard of her, though. Was she on "E!"? When were they
married? Does anyone know anything about her?

According to an artical in Soap Opera Digest (when he was on Loving), they
got married in '78, divorced in '90 (married 12 years). He wanted kids, she
didn't, think that's why they broke up, plus he was in NY doing Loving and she
was in LA. She took his ranch, that he owned before he even met her, nice huh?

Randy's ranch was located in Malibu California. The devistating fires that
plauged Malibu a few years back caused the ranch to burn to total ruin. She
had it coming some would think. :-P But my heart goes out to Randy who dearly
loved that ranch.

But wait...according to one of the stories on Rozane & Erika's web site, Randy
was still living at the ranch when it burned. One of the technical advisors
from the show was with the station that responded to the fire and he was the
one who had to tell Randy the ranch couldn't be saved...

I'm so confused...

You have it correct, Chandel.
He was still living there when the fire destroyed his ranch.

I have question, what is the date on the issue of SOD with this article? I lots
of old issues and I would like to find out if I still have this one.

Thanks!

Any chance SOD archives their issues anywhere on line?

I remember of reading about it in a teen magazine at my girlfriend's house so
it would have had to have been during E!'s original run in the 70's which I
assume was before he was married.

Sorry. I thought I read somewhere that she got the ranch after they divorced.
I don't know anymore. I hear and read so much that I don't know what's what
anymore.

Oh gosh, I'll have to check the Mantooth file, LOL! I do know that it was
either when he was on GH or right after he went back to Loving and that was
what, like in '93? '94? I'll check and get back to you...:)

I think the fires we're at the end of 93...just before the earthquake in the
beginning of 94.

Yes, the Malibu and Laguna Beach fires were in October in 1993. I was living in
the LA area then and both those fires were very devastating. My parents live in
Laguna Hills and if the wind had shifted they would have had to evacuate. As it
was, the ash from the fire covered everything. Mom found a leaf that had been
totally burned but was still in one piece.

The Northridge Quake happened on January 17, 1994. There is nothing more scary
than being jolted awake at 4:30 in the morning. It definitely gets your
attention!

Found the article, but there is no date on it (I pitched the rest of the
magazine) But it was when he was on GH as Richard Halifax so...the pics w/the
article were taken by his younger brother Donald.

Thanks for checking. I remember the article, so I'm sure that I saved the
magazine. I'll have to through what I've got and see if I have it. Randy was on
GH in 1993, so that gives me a time frame to shoot for.

Yes, there were some big fires in Malibu during the summer of '93. However,
according to another interview Randy did (Daytime TV 5/89), the fires that
took his home happened while he was still on Emergency, and he was married
at the time. There are fires in the hills surrounding LA every summer,
practically. And it's not always Malibu, though I'm sure 1993 was not the
first year they've had a fire.

Do we know if Randy was even living in Malibu at the time, if ever?
Another article I read said he was living in a small town outside of LA
during those years.

His wife had gone to the supermarket and Randy had been called when the fire
reached his house. When he got there (still dressed in his E uniform) the
house pretty much gutted. His main concern was for his wife, whom he hadn't
realized was away at the time. She returned just as he got word his house
couldn't be saved.

As for the divorce, Randy gave her the house, mainly because there were too
many reminders of her in it and it was too sad for him to keep it. And,
from what I understand, he built himself a new place when he moved back to
LA after The City was cancelled.

This is the fire I remember reading about in the 70s, although I don't remember
him being married at the time. I certainly hope he didn't go through another
fire in '93.

I don't know much about California geography, so this may sound stupid. I read
where he lived in Topanga(??) I have no idea where this is; but I'm assuming
it's somewhwere near L.A.

Topanga Caynon is in the Malibu area, not far from LA. It's a rural area and is
also very secluded. The people that live up there either have to deal with
fires or mudslides when it rains too much. It's a real nice area, so I can
understand why Randy liked it so much.

I don't have an issue #, but the magazine is called Daytime TV and the
article was in the May 1989 issue.

I've been catching up on Soap magazines featuring bits and pieces of Randy
chatter for the last month or so:-) It seems almost every issue of every
publication has some sound bite of his:-)

Key issues/magazines to look out for are:

Daytime TV:
7/87

Soap Opera Digest:
7/28/87
2/3/88
6/22/93

Soap Opera Weekly
3/15/94
8/17/93

Soap Opera People
1/88

The above have articles and inteviews with him.

If you want other tidbits (and you have the money to spend:-)), I suggest
Soap Opera Digests. They always seem to have some nice pics of him with
some nice sound bites:-)

Thanks Monica for the dates. I'm sure I have the SOW's and SOD's with the stuff
on Randy. I moved cross country 3 years ago and I threw alot of old magazines
away. I'm hoping that these issues weren't part of what got tossed in the
trash.

BTW, that article mentioned in the beginning of this thread was from the
6/22/93 issue of Soap Opera Digest. In that article he talks about the
divorce and how he gave his ex-wife the house. There are some nice pics in
that issue, photographed by his brother Donald:-)

One of these HAS to be that issue of Soap Opera Digest I was saying had the
article on how his wife got the ranch in the divorce. I would bet on the last
one actually, 'cause I think that's about the time he was on GH as Halifax and
that's what show he was on when it was written. Soap Opera Digest DOES sell
back issues and these are so recent, I'm sure they'd have them in stock. I'd
email or write them to find out which issue it was for sure, then see if you
can get it. Good luck! :)

All I know is they were married from (1979/1993) or something like that. I've never heard of her either. She supposedly is an actress and they divorced because he wanted children and she wanted to pursue her career. Ive looked her up and theres no info on her not even a picture. Funny how things works out. Now no one has ever heard of her and Randy is a household name. Sure she regrets that discision.

I'm a newbe but he talks about her in a interview on youtube. He interviewed her for the position of his secretary. He went to the lobby later to ask her out, but she refused. He told his attorney (whoever was helping with the interviews) that he had to hire her because she refused to go out with him.

As far as the fire, he said he was working on"Operation Petticoat" & Bob Cenader called him. Kevin was there when he got home, taking care of the animals.
