Was surfing the web and ran across this place. Guess I will have to make a
trip to Ohio and check this winery/restaurant out.

No website, but on topic:

About 10 minutes from where I am is "The Hose and Hydrant". It's located
about 5 minutes from Station 3 which serves
my local neighbourhood (1 Pierce Lance ladder tower, 1 Saulsbury pumper, 1
Saulsbury squirt, but apparatus is not
permanently stationed there as Burnaby regularly rotates equipment amongst
the various fire halls)

It's part of the Firefighter's Hall. It is a pub type restaurant
and the food there is pretty good.

The firefighter's hall is run by the local firefighter's union, but any
group can book space in there.

Right now they and other local firefighters are soliciting fund to raise
money to take children who are burn victims toa special camp (located about
40 miles north of Vancouver) that has lots of trees, streams, and all kinds
of fun for them.
Off duty firefighters attend the camp to attend to all kinds of fun things
for the kids.

Hey Mo,

If you ever get to Ohio, PLEASE let me know!! I would LOVE to meet you in

willing to meet you wherever!

Please, do let me know. That would be awesome!!

Sounds like a cool idea to me. Now if only I had the cash flow. Oh well as
soon as I am in better health I must start looking for work so I can see all
the places, people, and things I want to see. It's no fun being poor. I would
like to someday say I have visited all 50 states. Of course I would like to
revisit Canada as well.

Geneva-on-the-Lake, huh? That's not too far from here, or from my parents'
house. Maybe we'll have to try and hold an E! get-together there for the
Ohio/Michigan contingent!

Willoughby, huh? You're not far from Geneva-on-the-Lake. Have you ever
been to the Old Firehouse Winery?

Definitely not far, but I haven't been there. I'm actually not a big
wine fan (or more specifically, not a big fan of the headaches is
causes). If a group does end up forming to go, I'm game though.

There is a "Firehouse Ribs" just down the street from me that I've been
wanting to try. They have an ancient fire truck sitting outside of it.
Gotta get a picture of that one of these days.

Hi DJ!

I'll borrow the digital! I have to get back to pestering Mo about those
pix from 127s. I finally got around to talking a FF/PM friend of mine
into giving me a tour of his station last Friday. Cleveland Heights
Station 1, to be exact. Lots of cool equipment, got to do lots of
climbing on things before they got called out to a structure fire (they
don't have a pole, though). I may even try to do a ride along one of
these days. :)

It's still not too late to give it a go to be a firefighter, Heidi!

Any chance I can twist you arm to send over those pix so I can post them to
FFRS? Just a gentle twist.... See, it doesn't really hurt now does it?

Firehouse Ribs. That sounds great! Can you find out if they have a website?
And, if not, would they give you a menu and FFRS will put it up with info on
their place?

Heidi you are the best. Can't wait for you to come back into town!

Cool. Count me in. Sounds fun!

I saw the original post and thought, "Cool. It's here in OH." But of course
it's on the opposite end of the state. :/ Oh, well, can you say road trip?

BTW, Nancy, sorry we didn't make it over your way this summer. Ended up in
Central OH the third week in July instead of getting to the art fair. Wah.
Next year we'll go to MI in July (especially since my in-laws don't have an air
conditioning. Ugh!)
In the words of Maxine from the Hallmark cards- Ah summertime, when the
livin' is easy

And so is the sweatin' like a pig and breakin' out in nasty rashes.

OOPS. I'm rambling, aren't I?

Ok let's plan this get together, I still have time left on my vacation. After
17 year working in the same place I'm up tp 5 weeks of Vacation.
So I'm off again the week of Aug 12 or I could take off some time in Sept.
I only need to carrie over one week for a trip to Rome next year.
e-mail me personaly if you what.

Sorry to hear you didn't make it up here this year- I think the weather was
probably better here than in central Ohio! Art Fair had its usual 90+
degree day, and then 1 day with some rain and thunderstorms, but otherwise
it wasn't too bad. I worked at one of the information booths Friday
afternoon- kind of muggy, but there seemed to be a good-sized crowd. You'll
have to come up next summer. The Art Fair (actually fairs) is expanding
next year. The Street Art Fair (the one on South U) basically got kicked
out by the South U merchants, so they're moving over to the other side of
the Diag just north of campus, with their booths around the bell tower. The
South U merchants will then be expanding their Art Fair Village into the
space that the Street Art Fair has occupied since its inception. Should be
interesting- gives the Street Art Fair much more room to spread out and
bring in more artists, and puts them much closer to the other 2 art fairs.

Haven't heard of the Laguna Beach art expo, but I'm not exactly an art fair
connoisseur. The one here is just hard to avoid, especially when it brings
several hundred thousand people into town in a 4-day period- kind of like 4
football Saturdays. It's one of the largest and most prestigious in the
country. Many of the downtown streets are blocked off and filled with
artists' and other booths, and the hotel rooms, parking structures and
downtown restaurants are full- plus it takes longer getting across town with
all of the additional traffic. Wednesday and Thursday are the days to go to
actually see the fair. By Friday and Saturday, the crowds are such that
you're doing a slow shuffle between the booths- almost impossible to move at
a pace faster than the crowd. It's kind of fun working the information
booth, though. The most popular question in the 3-hour shift that I took
was "Where are the bathrooms?". This was followed closely by "Where are the
fans?", since it was hot and muggy, and the U-M alumni association was
handing out cardboard fans at their booth down the street. Least favorite
question was the one that began "I don't know the name of the artist I'm
looking for, but they were here last year and brought <fill in the blank>-
do you know where their booth is this year?"- with 4 fairs and several
thousand artists, those are really difficult to find. Though the locals
have fun complaining about Art Fair, it really is a lot of fun- you just
have to work around it a bit for daily activities during that time.
