I'm new here and slightly disappointed at the small number of postings
to this NG.

I just wanted to say that I think Renee Palmer (Jayne Heitmeyer) is one
of the best things about EFC at the moment. Am I the only one here who's
noticed just how gorgeous and sexy she is? I hope not.

What do the rest of you think of her?

I think She does have some good acting abilities, but the poor writing,
dialogue and costumes don't allow her to shine. She was supposed to be the
new female lead, replacing Lisa Howard. The writing style of the show does
not allow her to actually live up to Lisa.

I'd actually like to see Jayne with her natural hair color, dressed in
something other than leather, doing something other than shooting people and
blowing things up. She's supposed to be heading America's largest
corporation, and a double agent. The only environment we see her in is when
she's w/ liam "kicking taelon butt" so you can imagine the double agent
thing doesn't quite fit. The nice thing about earlier seasons was that the
resistance members all lead lives outside of their daily work.

Heitmeyer was also brought in to shore up Robert Leeshock who not only plays a poorly developed character, but has got to be one of the worst actors in television and that's saying something. The guy is a black hole. Any actor placed next to him for any period of time just sinks. Not quite to his level because that's hard to do, but close. And poor Heitmeyer has been joined to him as potential love interest, another problem as the guy also comes off as a eunuch at least on screen.

She's also been cast as a female action lead to replace Lisa Howard who really was a good female action lead. This is not Heitmeyer's forte. She has the wrong body style for one thing. She looks great but she's the soft, sensual type and lacks the wiry look that made Howard so believable. Howard's character was also an ex-marine pilot which allowed her to wear action costumes (not necessarily leather ensembles) without looking like an idiot.

When Heitmeyer is detached from Leeshock and allowed to do her own thing, she and Renee are both fine. I love her scenes with Federov and Hubble when she plays the sly, corporate seductress and some of her role playing scenes, like the ditzy temp, have been hysterical. She obviously has a good sense of humor and great timing. I wish they'd just admit this woman was made for comedy and let her run with it. She is not Lisa Howard and never will be. Trying to turn her into Lisa isn't fair to either woman.

The low number of posts has nothing to do with Heitmeyer, BTW. The main fan base died when Leeshock was brought in to replace Kevin Kilner as male action lead. That's a whole other story.

Also, the demise of deja.com has lost a number of posters.

Amen on both counts!!!!! The artistic shake up at the end of season one
really hurt this program badly. I think they have been trying to find there
way ever since. EFC was described elsewhere and a "near future" science
fiction series. That is what made it so believable - you didn't have to
stretch your imagination to follow, understand, and ultimately accept the
show. The first season asked the question, "Why are the Taelons REALLY
here?" The original writers did an excellent job of hiding their artistic
hands.

Notice that after just two and a half seasons, most of the original cast
are gone!!! Without the original tension and cohesion of the original
group, the show has had to rely on more episodes dealing with the misuse of
technology - stolen memories on CD ROM, genetically bred babies complete
with CVIs, cold fusion, CORE ENERGY!!!! This new ensemble does not click,
that's why they keep adding new characters. I think the best characters on
the show are Sandoval and Tate - Sandoval because his character is the most
developed and Tate, because he is a Sandoval wanna be. (Farscape writers
take note).

But I'll keep watching because I am truly a sci fi enthusiast. Hopefully
the writers will tighten up, buckle down, get really focused, and elevate
EFC back to it's former glory.

I heard rumors from a friend of mine that they are planning on changing
direction, and getting back to the original style and substance of the first
couple of seasons. I am not sure how reliable my source is though.
(Australian entertainment magazine my friend told me about)

The first few seasons? Well then... can we expect another Season 2? :)
I'm sorry... I'm just very very pesimistic at this point.

I don't care about her acting, just the way she looks. IMO she could
just stand there saying hardly anything and she'd still be fantastic. I
think Lisa Howard is really ugly.

I'm glad she's blonde. I wouldn't like to see her as any other colour.

I really don't care. She's still absolutely amazing!

You're the demographic the writers/producers/execs seem to have been
targeting. Apparently their evil plot is finally working!

I still like Da'an too. Despite some truly appalling writing, Leni Parker has managed to keep him more or less consistent. I mention this because I think both she and Von Flores deserve credit. Actors may not be able to control the scripts, but they can do something to limit the damage of really bad writing and these two have really done wonders in that respect.

I rather like Street too now that they've made it clear that she's not just a replacement for Augur. No one can replace Augur, but I like the idea that she has a story arc related gift. I'm hoping that the Taelons are wrong about how "unique" she is (please, no more "only hopes" please; we've already got Liam and he's one more than enough) and that it will turn out that there are quite a few humans with her ability. Not necessarily a lot. Just more than one. Probably they are the result of whatever Ma'el did way back when. And maybe they are also the beginning of a human commonality. Perhaps the reason they can think multidimentionally is because they are thinking as a group, possibly without realizing it. After all, the Taelons are losing their intelligence as their commonality slips into stasis so maybe the humans are gaining as their commonality slowly grows. I think this would be a cool way to solve the Taelons' core energy problem and surprise the blue sh*t out of them.

It would also be a good way to bring in a new ensemble cast, preferably one that does click, and preferably one that isn't entirely composed of white Americans.

Himiko, the idea of a human commonality is brilliant. You should go write
for EFC!

Bound to. There's more of them than us. This is the counterpart to the gaggle of dewy-eyed damsels, mostly in their early teens and searching for a non-threatening romantic male (can't do better than that eunuch). It's easier to write (and I use the word loosely) for hormones than minds.

Easier to write for anyone other than hard-core SF fans, probably. We are a critical bunch, but we are also incredibly loyal once hooked and worth cultivating as a demographic in ways other than sheer numbers. This is the lesson originally learned from TOS and reinforced by the whole ST universe and Bab5, but TV execs seem to have to keep learning it over and over and over - hey, get that bunny out of here!

Sorry, but your theories about me are wrong. I have actually watched EFC
since the very beginning when it featured William Boone. Just the name
Gene Roddenberry was enough for me. To prove this to you, Boone's wife
was killed by Sandoval, and the CVI enabled him to remember what he ate
at school on a particular day some years before. However, this doesn't
mean that I don't love Jayne Heitmeyer, Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1),
Jennifer Lien (ST:V), etc.
