I'm sure I've missed some really clever joke here and am gonna feel stupid for
asking this, but . . . relation to who?
Esther Pearson is an injoke as Lester Pearson (for whom the Toronto AIrport is
named after) is a famous political figure. As of this very second, his exact
title escapes me, but I'm sure a helpful Canadian will fill in the details.
Meanwhile Deborah Rennard is Mrs. Paul Haggis (aka the creator of Due South).

Ah. Well, I don't feel nearly as dumb as I thought I was going to . . .
<<Deborah Rennard is Mrs. Paul Haggis>>
Lucky guy!
And a response to my query in well under 5 minutes! Thank you kindly!

Lester B. Pearson was the Prime Minister of Canada from 1963 to 1968 (between John
Diefenbaker and Pierre Trudeau). While in the Army, he was nicknamed "Mike"
because his commander thought that "Lester" was too wimpy a name, and he was
always called Mike by his friends after that. It was under his leadership that
Canada adopted its now-famous maple leaf flag in 1965. He won the Nobel Peace
Prize in the 1950's for his work in pioneering the idea of using soldiers as
peacekeepers (yes, United Nations Peacekeeping Forces is a Canadian idea, and
Pearson was the one who thought of it). Pearson might have become Secretary
General of the United Nations, but the Soviets didn't want someone from a country
that was so closely allied with the United States.
Hope that answers your question!

Don't feel bad, I asked the same question a few months ago. My husband was
amazed at the number of responses I got in about three hours. Five minutes
would pretty much be a record, though!
Tammy
I got my first reponse in under 5 minutes, and 3 others within 15, all of which
were friendly and articulate. What a great newsgroup! ;-)
