Early in April we reported that NBC's Kings was available to pre-order
at Amazon.com on DVD, despite not being announced yet by Universal
Studios. Because of that, there was no release date yet for the home
video collection. And because the show hadn't been canceled at that
time, the title was marked as Kings - Season 1.

Today, however, Universal has announced to retailers that Kings - The
Complete Series will be release on September 8th on DVD. It will be a
3-disc set costing $59.98 SRP (significantly higher than the $34.98
list price that Amazon originally showed...but has corrected since
then). Running time is 551 minutes, with anamorphic widescreen video
and English audio (Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround) and subtitles. Extras,
if any, weren't mentioned in this morning's details. But stay tuned,
and we'll update you when we can!

Kings will be returning with the first of its seven final episodes
this Saturday at 8pm.

So since nobody watched it, they're going to make it up on the DVD sales?

Now that's what I call network logic... no one watched for free
before, so we're sure they'll pay for it in a few months! LOL!

Some shows need a tag to say: "The Incomplete Series, But All
There'll Ever Be of It"

Not at that price. HBO series like /Six Feet Under/ and /True Blood/
sell for less, so I can't picture many consumers plunking down $40(*)
for /Kings/. Heck, a full season of /Seinfeld/ is $14 at Target this
week.

(*) Not a typo -- I assume if the MSRP is $60 it will initially sell
for about $40 at the big-box retailers.

Give it a month and it will be an Amazon Gold Box special for 20 bucks.
