Interestingly enough, the Cruise of Deception began in Australia, or nearby.
It started soon after Bo and Hope (around March of 1990) met with Kayla and
Steve. There they found Sheila Salisbury - the mentally ill woman who stole
Kayla and Steve's baby Stephanie to raise as her own. Sheila was arrested and
Stephanie was reunited with her parents. Around that time it was revealed that
Kayla didn't kill Steve's estranged wife Marina Toscano Johnson. Instead,
Marina's half-sister Isabella had accidentaly killed Marina in a struggle,
while wrestling with Marina's gun. Then, Bo was kidnapped by thugs who sent
him to a secluded castle where Ernesto Toscano held Bo prisoner. Ernesto did
this because he believed in getting revenge against one's enemies by hurting
their loved ones. Ernesto - a sick and evil man and a master illusionist - was
Marina's father. He wanted to hold Bo prisoner in his castle "forever" to
punish Bo's father Victor Kiriakis. This was because, about thirty-odd years
prior, Victor had had an affair with Ernesto's wife Loretta. The affair
produced a daughter - Isabella. Bo escaped from the castle.
Then, Bo, Hope, Steve, Kayla, Jack, Jennifer, Shawn, Caroline, Victor,
Roman, and Isabella boarded a cruise ship for a vacation, soon after this.
Little did they know that Ernesto had arranged it. There Ernesto served food
for Isabella, laced with poison in an attempt to kill her. This was out of
revenge for her killing Mariana, albeit accidentally. It was mentioned that
Ernesto had killed his wife Loretta this way after he learned of her liaison
with Victor. Before eating much of the food, John (then-known as Roman)
stopped Isabella from consuming any more of it. Meanwhile, references to past
storylines occurred - including Victor and Caroline's affair (which produced
Bo), as Caroline and Victor argued on the cruise. Caroline at that time hated
Victor for all the evil deeds he had committed and still felt remorseful and
guilty about defiling her marriage to Shawn with Victor. Victor still cared
about Caroline as a friend, while Caroline didn't feel the same toward him.
Caroline returned a bracelet to Victor - a bracelet that he had given to her.
Victor refused to take it back, so Caroline dropped it on the floor and then
walked away from him.
Ernesto bombed the cruise and all the passengers were shipwrecked on a desert
island.
Bo explored the island. Hope decided to go searching for Bo. Then
Ernesto, who was hiding on the island, abducted Hope and held her prisoner in
another castle on that island. Everyone went to the castle and found Hope
there, locked up in a cage. Ernesto threatened to drop her in a boiling pot of
acid and kill her if Bo tried to save her. Ernesto declared that he would
hold Hope prisoner with him forever, to punish Bo for escaping his
prison-castle. Bo - in vain - pleaded for Hope's life. Ernesto then told Bo
that he would free Hope if she and Bo acted out a dramatic improvised goodbye
scene. Devastated and terrified, Hope made a tearful speech to Bo, and Bo made
a poignant speech to Hope. Ernesto then said that their goodbye scene wasn't
dramatic enough, and that therefore he would keep Hope a prisoner. Then
Ernesto conjured up an explosion and apparently put himself into the cage with
hope when the smoke had cleared. The cage fell down, with apparently Hope
screaming and Ernesto feigning fear. Another explosion occurred and Hope was
presumed murdered. Ernesto vanished immediately after he had staged Hope's
murder. Hope would not be seen again until 4 years later.
SPOILER SPACE:
Much later, almost 9 years (in late 1998 and early 1999) after Hope's
presumed death, it would be revealed that Ernesto had given Hope to Stefano
DiMera - another sick and evil man and a master of illusion - so that Stefano
could brainwash her with the brain and the identity of another woman and turn
Hope into a criminal and into Stefano's servant.

Are you sure that Shawn and Caroline weren't there? I am positive that those
two were. However you're probably right about Steve and Kayla not being there.
I clearly remember Caroline being on that cruise ship, arguing with Victor
in one of the lounge rooms, just a few rooms away from Isabella's cabin.
Caroline told Victor to take back the bracelet that he had given to her.
Victor wouldn't. So Caroline let the bracelet fall out of her hand and onto the
floor. That's one of the scenes from Days that I remember the best. In my
opinion it was one of the most dramatic yet realistic scenes I've ever seen on
Days.
Nope, Caroline wasn't on the cruise. Victor's love interest at the time was
Julie Williams, I have no idea if they fought or not becasue I remember Jack &
Jennifer's scenes the most.
