comfy?" It was so strange to see him in there knowing he's just pretending
to be Doug and is completely alive.
I had this same dilemma with actor Chaz Palminteri in the coffin in the film
"A Bronx Tale". He did a good coffin guy. He was very still and unflinching.
It was way super creepy how good he was.

someone is standing over them....It is creepy....I just know that my
nose would itch or something...lol.
It is also appalling that Reilly has permitted so much time to pass
without burying Doug....It's as if this all happened yesterday but it is
now St. Patrick's day and they celebrate it as if we would or could
forget that the killing occurred on St. Valentine's day. Why on earth
didn't they just have a service a few days ago before these holidays ran
together....Talk about stinking writing.....we now should have a pretty
ripe corpse.

I can't imagine how those people are going to play Alice's funeral. When you
think of how long many of them have worked with her - decades! And if
Reilly is going to kill off Alice, then he damn well better give her a good
funeral, complete with all her family members.

True. Not only that, but i'm sure he also doesn't want to have to pay some
of these old-timers day-wages to come back for only a few hours worth of
work. I don't know what the minimum is according to SAG, but JERk would have
to pay these people something. He can just show flashbacks to "classic"
episodes for free.

What I don't get is WHY the two that play this Doug and Julie couple came
back FOR THIS. They were written back into a show simply to be killed off?
That makes no sense. It also lends credence to my theory that JERk didn't
know where the story was going when he first began to write it, because if
he had the killer, the methods, the motive and the victims in mind, he would
never have needed to drag Bill and Susan Hayes back onto this show just to
stab them in the back...and neck....and stomach. He arranged for 10 people
to die (and he's since confirmed my Ten Little Indians theory), but did he
ever really know who his ten "victims" were going to be? If he did, he
obviously changed his mind. I can't imagine that he conceived the idea from
the beginning to bring Doug back just so he could kill the guy.

I don't think so. I believe he has to pay any actor that appears in the
flashback. Think of the ones we've seen recently. Who has been in them? Only
people who are on now...with the exception of little Hope. We don't even see
Tom Horton, except for that horrible still they show from time to time.

Wrong. The footage belongs to NBC Studios. They are free to run it whenever,
wherever, however. The only restrictions that would be in place were if
Corday or NBC tried using Bill Hayes' face on t-shirts, cereal boxes,
etc...tying him into DrOOL. They can't use his likeness in or on anything
but DrOOL. Actors are paid for the work they turn in on the day they turn it
in. They don't receive perpetual royalties, particularly two-bit players
like Susan and Bill Hayes.

She's just horrible.
Sweeney outshines her in so many ways that it just gives me cramps to even
see them on the same show together. Christie sucks.

her image at all, either in still photographs or in flashback sequences.
There was an episode where I believe Miss Ellie was looking at a photo
album, and Pam was very awkwardly cropped out. And her clips weren't used
when the show did an episode mostly filled with flashbacks a few years
later. Same for Shannen Doherty on "90210" -- for a retrospective that was
aired shortly before the series finale, Shannen's image was blurred out of
the few Brenda-era clips that were shown. Same for Pernell Roberts on
"Bonanza" -- for years he wouldn't allow his clips to be used anywhere that
was not specified in his contract. "Entertainment Tonight" did a story on
"Bonanza" quite a few years back, and one of the anchors specifically
mentioned after the story completed that Roberts wouldn't give permission to
use his clips. This is only an issue when clips are integrated into new
material -- it doesn't affect full-episode reruns.
I'm not familiar with how soap contracts are written these days, but I know
that in the early days, they were pretty restrictive and gave actors very
little control or compensation when the material was rerun or re-used. But
with the advent of cable and the internet, and with soaps finally being
rerun, I would guess that this has changed.
The "Days of Our Lives" footage, BTW, doesn't belong to NBC Studios. It
belongs to Sony Pictures Television (formerly Columbia Tri-Star and Screen
Gems), which produces the show. NBC only gets the rights to each episode for
a single run.

Some time before their return, it was bandied about in places like
Dustin's website that JERk (or Ken Corday?) had promised them that
they were not being brought back to be killed off. I don't know how
much credence to give this, but, as you say below, it makes no sense,
which in and of itself gives it some credence.

I don't believe for a minute that he knew in advance how the storyline
would unfold. He's the king of the dropped storyline when he can't
figure out how to resolve it, AFAICS. This will likely prove another
case in point, as the resolution (if there ever is one) will likely be
about as excitingly climactic as, say, the Woman in White or Mardevil,
and make about as much sense.
