DAYS seldom moves me emotionally, but Patch and Kayla's scenes on
Thursday when he went blind had me thisclose to crying. From the first
scene in the Brady Pub where Patch tells Kayla he can no longer see to
the hospital scenes, especially when Patch was talking about losing his
eye and then asking "What do I with my patch?", and Kayla having to tell
Marlena and John. Wow. (Only negative - it takes very lengthy and
extensive training for the visually-impaired to learn how to use a cane.
You're not simply handed one when you lose your eyesight.)

Interesting to find out why some blind wear sunglasses. There is a medical need.

That part made no sense to me. Kayla said the glasses were to prevent
glare, but if you can't see anyway, how is glare a factor? I think he could
easily have continued wearing his patch.

I think there is a fine line between touching and maudlin, and for me this
one bordered a but too much on maudlin. I love the chemistry between Kayla
and Steve, but I thought this was all a bit overdone. And as I mention in
another post, it really made no sense for him to remove his patch so that he
could wear sunglasses that would protect his non-functioning eyes from
glare.

Personally, I think that given Steve's personality, he should have simply
gotten a matching eyepatch.

I also always thought that a great April Fool's gag would have been for
Steve to switch the patch to his other eye for one day.

That would have been good. Like Igor's hump in "Young Frankenstein".

I could be mis-remembering this, but I have this vague recollection that
when Patch first started out on the show back in the 80s, there were a
couple of times they got it wrong and he wore the patch over the wrong eye
by mistake.
