To Robot and Heatherrrrr and all the others who want their TVs back
but are afraid to say so:

You are not bad or shallow or insensitive people. You're not
unpatriotic. You're only human. Didn't Mayor Guliani say that we
should go on with our lives; to go out to dinner, or to a show. The
way to show the terrorists that they have not won is to continue to
live the good life that we have here in America. Not by sitting
mesmerized in front of our televisions watching the towers collapse
over and over again.

It's ok to not want to wallow in the tragedy. Many people will holler
at you for your insensitivity but they're not really mad at you.
They're mad at the terrorists who unfortunately are not available to
be hollered at or lynched.

Personally I think that the news media gets a little bit carried away
with their reporting. They go on for hours with really very little to
say. I don't like to see such an awesome and horrific event
trivialized with a slogan "Attack on America". I don't care what
dozens of pundits think about the situation. This is not just the
latest media event, like OJ or Monica.

I think we have enough all news channels as well as the internet and
the morning, noon, and nightly news shows to convey all of the
information that the public needs to know. Why glamorize the event
with all this extra coverage for days and days. How many times do we
have to watch those planes crash again?

I have to admit that I've been compulsively sitting in front of the
tv, gazing in shock and horror and disbelief at this tragedy ever
since it happened. But I'm not so sure that this is a good thing.
And I certainly don't blame anyone who wants to turn it off for a
while.

I saw a segment on CNN last night about Israel. There were people eating pizza
in a restaurant that had been rebuilt after a bombing a month ago. The people
there were saying that you have to go on with your life....if you can't then
that is a true victory for the terrorist. You can not allow them to make you
stop living.

ITA. I am also wanting to watch other things. I am getting tired of watching
the same thing over and over again. I am also tired of cartoons. I am wanting
to watch some regular programming so I can laugh again. I think we all need
something to get our minds off of NYC and DC if only for 30 min. We need it to
stay sane IMO

And actually it's probably safest to do stuff now. I think with all the
security we've got up now, nothing will happen. As soon as we relax and let
our guard down, I'll think something will happen again. Just my gloomy
opinion. Lol. I kept my daughter out of school yesterday (we live on a
military base and would have had to leave base to take her and go through
too many check-points) but she's going tomorrow and I'm going to do some
errands. Got to get back to *normal* sooner or later.

Rent a comedy...

I don't really mind all the news coverage, in fact, I expect it. If I
tire of it, I can turn it off, read a book, go outside, whatever...the
thing that really got to me today, is that they don't really have
anything to say and when they do say it, it's often untrue. I went
around all day today buoyed by the fact that 5 firemen were rescued. The
reporters had details about the 5 brave men stuck in an SUV for 50
hours. This evening, they come on and say "sorry" the report was false.
Check your facts, reporters! What a downer.

Is that your answer for everything Dana? I am not the only one wanting to watch

flamed.

It's the first time I used that answer, Amy. You said you wanted a
comedy, I gave a suggestion. It's a valid solution to the problem, I
don't see how that was a flame.

If you want to know what i really think, I think it's insensitive of you
to want the news turned off just so you can laugh.

You asked, I answered, and if you consider this a flame, so be it.

seems. You're a better mom for showing your baby cartoons than the news.

Now I am insensitive to want my daughter to see her Mommie laughing and having
fun with her and not seeing her crying at the tv all time? Whatever! Kids sense
when something is wrong and my daughter has sensed it because she has come into
the bedroom and seen me crying. Yeah I turn the channel fast to cartoons or
whatever but I need to show her that Mommie is ok and that Caiti is going to be
ok and in order to do that I need to be myself again and to be myself I have to
laugh. I am a happy go lucky person and always smiling but smiling the past few
days has been rare if at all. So I guess according to you I am insensitive.

I think it's a *MAJORLY* good choice to show her cartoons, which I've
said already, but if I had it my way all of the people who are
complaining about their sports coverage (and you *DID* mention going to
the Nascar webpage and trying to find out about the race. You also
mentioned your Nascar chat) would get their sports tickets ripped in
their face and thrown into a trash compactor.

People are looking for their kids, brothers, sisters, and spouses
*STILL* and I just cannot comprehend how some others are worried about
when they'll see the NFL, Major league baseball, Nascar, etc. One of the
people who died on those AmAirlines and United flights was a Hockey
star, Amy. What if it had been Mike Waltrip? Remember when Dale died?
Remember how you felt, Amy?

That hockey player's teammates are in mourning and a few of you are
worried about when the sports games and races will resume?!?!?! You say
whatever to Dana and I say WHATEVER to you, unfortunately. You're a good
mom for shielding your child; A BRAVE MOM for leaving the room so that
she does not see you cry and thus feel unsafe. I'm proud of you for that
but I'm not happy about your need for sports in a time when teammates
and families are up s**t creek paddling backwards, honestly...

Stay brave and keep your kid's eyes out of harm's way. I just don't want
to hear about your need for sports right now or anyone else's, which is
nothing personal toward any of you. Competitive forces have beat us
DOWN, Amy. I'm in no mood for competitive sports right now and I don't
know how you could be.

JMO, and thank you for being responsible enough to protect Caitlin from

That is absolutely not what I said. I said it's insensitive to want
regular tv back on. Full stop. I never said it was insensitive to want
to watch something else. In fact, I've repeatedly stated I totally
understand that, I just don't think you should bitch about regular
programming not being on. You have many options out there, NO ONE is
forcing you to watch the news. However, why should others who need the
coverage be forced not to get the news because some people can't put in
a video or (*gasp*) find something besides tv to take their minds off
it?

I live in New York City, and I don't have cable TV. Except for CBS,
which is being transmitted via the Empire State Building, I haven't
gotten any TV stations since Tuesday morning. We who live here are
still very much in shock, and need to watch the news in order to absorb
all that has taken place. It just helps to digest it all... to
comprehend, to feel, to cry. The whole incident is surreal for most of
us, as many still walk around in disbelief and in somewhat of a daze.

Since this took place, we have hardly seen anyone smile. Here, it's not
a matter of looking insensitive if we do. Nearly every one of us has a
story of horror to tell, whether it be a personal one, or that of a
friend or relative. It seems that not much else has been on our minds,
as all conversations are about this horrendous attack. Many of us have
barely eaten or slept.

I have heard of others who have gone outside of the city...even an hour
outside of the city. I'm told that most people there are angry, and
they are very sad. But I have heard that it's a slightly different
atmosphere in that their lives have not completely stopped, as ours
have. People can still smile and go on with life. Here, unfortunately,
it is a much different story. It's just too soon. We have been through
an enormous tragedy which has touched our lives in a deeply personal
way. It will take some time to heal, but we will. New Yorkers are a
tough breed. We'll get through this, and we'll come back even stronger.

My heart goes out to all the victims, their familes and friends. I'm so
sorry for what you're going through. You're continually in my prayers.

I saw a school bus late week full of about eighteen little kids and the
same thing happened. Not one of those kids was smiling, laughing, or
playing and teasing with the other children. They were all sad, pouty,
disappointed, and unhappy. It is the first time in my three decades on
Earth that I've ever seen a school bus filled with no sounds coming out
of the windows; no joy or laughter; only sorrow and sadness. I was
paralyzed with shock and what those faceless, cowardly, murdering
fuckwit idiots have done to my country's little children.

You should take your own advice there JN. Go back a few post and have the
same amount of patience for me for saying robot instead of 790robothead.

Well I can never gage your mood JN, you flip from "Snow White" to the "Wicked Witch" in a matter of a few posts.  I  *thought* you might be ribbing me for making a simple mistake, but in fact I see you are serious and have no patience even though in a similar post you told me that...

"Other people here apologized, too. These are trying times. Try to be
patient and expect people to lash out. It's bound to happen, really...

JN"

So please heed your own advice...

Most people here call him Sev or 790 and not Robot. If you cannot accept
the fact that you messed up, I'm not going to take the blame on your
behalf. There's one Robot here. He ain't the one, so quit bitching at
me.

You are a whining easy bleeder, Christine. Get off my case before I
verbally backhand you for being so insipidly ridiculous.

WHOA-WHOA-WHOA!!
Okay- MY name is ROBOT [since 1977, even before I heard of KRAFTWERK], and
yes, I am a FemBOT. 790 Robothead [named after the character on LEXX] is a
MaleBOT. HE made the post "I want my TV back" and I responded to it, along
with a bunch of other people. Most people were mad at 790 and thought he was
being "cold-hearted". [I don't think he meant it to come out "flippant" like
that.] I merely made a statement like "we ALL crave 'normalcy', but things
will never be 'normal' again." and I mentioned agreeing with needing a
break. I als mentioned "I want the WTC back- I want those LIVES back-".
There was also another thread about "what do you do for a break?" where
everyone peacefully discussed "Brady Bunch", etc- and I mentioned
"Ponderosa"- when CNN gets to be overwhelming, there's always SCI-FI Channel
and PAX, etc. Anyway, 'ROBOT' and '790 Robothead' ARE similar names, so,
there's bound to be some confusion as to who said what. Now, please, let's
not fight. Life is too precious....

PEACE,
ROBOT

Hey, my mistake Robot. I addressed my post to you and Heatherrrrrrrr,
not realizing that 790Robothead and you were different posters. My
bad. I am sorry for the confusion. I had my bots mixed up. But I
think I've got it now. I never meant to dis anyone, I only wanted to
say that whether a person wanted news or relief from news didn't
matter. Like you said, Life is too precious....

Well, that was sure a waste of a post. Got something to say? Say it. I'm
not intimidated by you. In fact, if we lived in Lilliput, I'd be
Gulliver right now and you'd be one of the little people because all you
are is little and small minded to me, Christine. Easy come, easy go. I
dare you to have half the balls in your life that I do, and you know
what? You'll never come through on my dare, either.

I'm not expecting you to be intimidated JN, it wasn't my intention. I have better
things to do actually. Your jibber jabber might frighten others, might intimidate
others, but to me it just is a source of humor. I've read your words addressed to
many people on here over the last 2 months, it's just a recycled script of deep seeded
anger.

I never knew he used that before. When I started coming here he was 790 and
then he switched and added on to it.
