Why did you quote the WHOLE thread when replying to me?
The Paula Cole song is one of the theme songs.

They can't just pick a song and play it. They have to get rights to play
the song to a mass media, which requires approval from the artists or
whoever holds the copyright on the song.
That's why they didn't play Alanis Morsette(sp?)'s "Hand in my pocket." She
didn't like the show and refused to give permission.

Phyllis,
Just ignore Daniel. I think that's the best for everyone.
Daniel,
I know that. I didn't say that they could just play any song that they
wanted...I just think that it would be really cool. Stop being so
criticizing.
It's kids like you guys who give kids like me a bad name everywhere. Have
you noticed that 14-year-old girls are the butts of every joke in every
pop culture magazine (ie Rolling Stone, SPIN)? They have every right to
make fun of the teenyboppers who only want to hear music on the top of the
charts. Hanson, Backstreet Boys, Savage Garden, Spice Girls--not only are
they untalented and produce drivel of the same consistency as my dog, but
they don't play very good music! Surprisingly, the best music doesn't
make it to the top of the charts.
The beauty of listening to pop music is discovering something by
yourself. When 14 million kids are listening to the Backstreet Boys, it
doesn't make you very special, does it? Paula Cole writes decent songs
and she's got a great voice. Perhaps the show uses "Adult Contemporary"
music because adults are more mature. Chumbawumba, while writing an
infectious and unfortunately shitty record, actually has politics behind
their grating guitars and sing-along choruses.
On a tangent... the back of the J Crew catalog-Is that Dawson?
The show isn't that good. Kids aren't that pretty and kids sure as hell
aren't that smart, at least none of the ones I go to school with. I watch
to remind myself that someday I will meet people capable of forming their
own opinions.
If you want to act a little more mature and be whole lot hipper, turn off
AOR and turn on your local college station. Discover music like Big Star,
R.E.M. (crusty old talented farts, they are), Ben Lee, Sebadoh, Ben Folds
5, Archers Of Loaf, Smiths, Leonard Cohen, Cornershop, Luna, Lemonheads,
Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, Vic Chesnutt, Fountains of Wayne, Beth
Orton, Verve, Radiohead, Beastie Boys, Yo La Tengo, Ani Difranco, Bob
Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Guided By Voices, Stereolab, Beck, Bjork, Portishead,
Spiritualized, Television, Papas Fritas, Sleater-Kinney, David Bowie,
Daniel Lanois, The Clash, Belle and Sebastian, Ivy, Sonic Youth, Sex
Pistols, Superchunk, Pulp, Byrds, Mark Eitzel, Elliott Smith, Robyn
Hitchcock, Supergrass, The Who, Teenage Fanclub, I could go on forever.
Check out your local scene. Every day bands emerge a thousand times
better than any Hanson song that isn't MMMBop. Be the first

I'm 17 and I don't listen to Hanson or the Spice Girls and I only like 1
Savage Garden song and at that the guys in Savage Garden aren't that good
looking.

I am pretty offended that your saying that Backstreet Boys are untalented
they have very good voices put on a kicken show and harminize (spelling??)
very well.

They probally would play underground music if people other then the ones
in that area knew what it was. They want something that catches the
audiances attention

I feel special listening to the Backstreet Boys because I have listened
to them since 1993 (yes they have been around that long). That sounds stupid
but knowing that I have listened to them for that long and most "fans"
haven't makes me feel pretty damn special

The kids were I live dress in stuff from J Crew and stores like that and
yes there is alot of kids that look like that here in DC. Maybe the kids
were you live are just stupid and don't have clue. I'm starting to think the
same about you.

I do listen to quite a few of those groups that you put on there I don't
listen to college stations though I listen to all sorts of stations and
mainly the main DC alternative station DC101.

I listen to underground DC music everyday. Ever heard of GoGo music?? If
your not from DC or know people from DC you probally haven't. I listen to
GoGo more than I listen to anything.

Where do you live by the way?? It sounds like your from the middle of
nowhere somewhere like hmmmm Missouri......
At the moment MANY of us are capable of forming our own opinions--sorry
you're not meeting people like us.
