Well, I'll tell you what my reliable source said . . .Don was the actor
mentioned in KLS' book about the "too intellectual" actor who sometimes
wound up sitting in the trash can in a producer's office, the result of
too much drugs. He is the one consistent rumor I've ever heard at
Festivals or in fandom -- that he did too much drugs on DS and throughout
his brief career and eventually just burned his brain out. He lives in
Nashville with his parents who basically care for him. This has also been
alluded to by the DS stars themselves on stage during Q&A's (never said
out and out) but that was the impression your left with. Other long time
DS people have all said basically the same thing about what happened with
him as he seem to mind fans coming to visit or even calling now and then
so there has been contact with him. I don't know really whether or not he
ever drove a NYC cab as the impression as I was left with is that after
the mid-70s he left the city entirely.
Just my two cents.

Have to disagree with you there, Jed. His
woodnedness was the main part of his charm! I agree he was wonderfully
alternative as Tom, but as Chris and Tim he also brings ou different
personalities without losing that wonderful "stiffness" of his.
Aye, he looks really good but doesn't have that pretty boy
aspect the other lookers on the show had (David Selby & Joel Crothers).
I don't think that's likely. Briscoe had a role in the 1970 Parallel
Time storyline as Chris Collins, cousin to Quentin and attorney for
the family. All of a sudden one day the family attorney was someone
named Larry Chase. Apparently Don Briscoe didn't show up for work one
day, his lines were given to the disposable Larry Chase, and he didn't
work on the show again.
I thought betsy was quite good. Her only really crime was
that she was not Alexandra Moltke.

Today's (1-7-97) scenes with Terry Crawford were frighteningly
awful...with Briscoe checking the teleprompter for his very first
line!
I've noticed in the time watching that generally the actors tend to be
quite fresh and snappy when they first reappear after a few episodes
off ... but then by the time they've done about three episodes in a
row the fabric begins to tear and they're mouths are full of mis read
lines....
(except the ALWAYS line perfect Nancy Barrett...then again maybe she
was just better at ad libbing.)
Geoffrey Scott was terrible on Dark Shadows, never did a thing for anybody
on Dynasty (except Alexis!), and got terrible press when he played Billy
Lewis on Guiding Light a year or so ago--one of the WORST male recasts on
daytime television. There was such a fan uproar the character was sent to
prison.
To put it another way: Betsy Durkin and Geoffrey Scott suck(ed)!

I absolutely remember that. She also commented on how good-looking he was.
In one of his appearances on DS, there is a funny moment when he is exiting a
scene. As he is leaving, he gets the silliest, dopiest grin on his face! It
fit in perfectly with his bad acting which, unfairly(?), made him seem not too
bright.
What did she say about him?

I seem to remember David Hennesy as forgetting just as many lines as both
of the folk you are all trashing here in this thread!
Who can forget how many times Roger add-libbed when asking David a question
and had to answer it himself due to the fact that David was just staring at
him like Mr. Jughans!
